## **Section C Objectives and activities**

**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

The relief of sickness and the preservation of health among people living in low and middle income countries, including but not by way of limitation through the exchange of knowledge and the provision of education and resources.

The charity has two projects running:

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

The first project concerns the provision of food and drink for patients without a family member with them, where it is customary to have an attendant during their hospitalisation and where the hospital also does not provide patient meals. Patients in need of the meal provision are identified during hospital admission and a referral is made by nurses and/or hospital social workers to the cooks employed by the charity. Patients identified for this provision will receive meals and refreshments for the period of their hospitalisation. Locally these patients are described as destitute and as such receive the provision free of charge. Without the meal and refreshment provision provided those patients without family or an attendant are at risk of at hunger, starvation and dehydration.

The second project provides a baby kit to accompany government maternity kit. The baby kits contain essential items to clean and keep warm new born babies. The kits are delivered to partnering medical centres that have maternity facilities. An educational package has accompanied the kits to encourage pregnant women to attend antenatal checks. Centres which have the kits have seen increasing numbers of women attending antenatal checks as well as deliveries increasing.

In planning and prioritising our activities for this financial year, the trustees have reviewed the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity Commission at our trustee meetings and ensured that we are in full compliance.

## Section D Achievements and performance

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

Unfortunately, due to the continuation of the pandemic our fundraising activities have been somewhat limited with a smaller number of people and organisations donating to charities. We are extremely grateful to those who have given financially to the charity and we are pleased to say that we have been able to continue to run both of the projects and keep the staff we have employed to run these projects.

The meal and refreshment provision to patients has continued as has the provision of the baby kits.

We held an online quiz during the year which raised some funds and enabled new people to hear about NRO's projects. We aim to hold another quiz in 2022.

We are very pleased that the meal provision has continued to provide food to hospitalised people without family help on a 7 day week basis throughout the year.

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;

The charity raised money during this financial year by means of charitable donations from individuals and from Kingdom Faith Church. The pandemic has undoubtedly had a continual impact on our finances, however donations increased 169% compared to 2019/20 whilst our costs increased by 29% over the same period.

We have more people giving on a regular basis now, and the Trustees have also increased their personal donations to NRO.

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.
