## **River Wey Trust Annual Report** It has been a busy and exciting year, with a wide range of activities including the introduction of a water-testing programme: all the work undertaken is helping to sustain the Trust’s future and to protect the legacy of Adrian Bird, whose enthusiasm and knowledge launched the charity. **Allee’s meadow** -Five work parties had taken part in the year, clearing the ground and improving the entrance. Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council was thanked for the work of their ground works team which had provided invaluable support with their mechanical equipment. A £5,000 2-year maintenance budget had been agreed, £800 of which had been spent on necessary tree surgeon activities. A proposal that a small flock of ewes should be allowed to graze the land is being progressed. **Griggs Green/ Land at Radford Bridge** – A possible easement for access to a property at Griggs Farm Court is progressing and “ No right of Way” signs have been erected on the land to formalise the Trust’s legal ownership of it to the public and to discourage walkers from using it. There is no news on potential GreenConstruct development of the land at Radford Bridge and the developers have not responded to recent correspondence. The suspended main sewer pipe on the land is in danger of being broken by falling trees – Thames Water are aware of the danger and is taking steps to rectify the problem. The Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam are being monitored. **Pitt Farm/ Kick testing** – No further work is contemplated at this stage at the Passfield Sluice: the Environment Agency has agreed the funds held for this project should be retained for other fish protection projects on the river. The trustees have approved a riparian tree planting project at Pitt Farm on the river above Frensham. Monthly kick testing is carried out at Allee’s Meadow, demonstrating the river is healthy at that point. The effects of the testing have been demonstrated at three events. **Water Quality Testing** – Regular testing has been introduced, with protocols and kit from the Canadian charity Water Rangers. Results from over sixty sites are shared nationally and internationally, with test sites expanding beyond the Southern Wey.. Much interest has been generated, stimulating new Friends to join, many of whom have brought down the average age of our members and friends! Our three RWT councillor trustees have provide funding of £500 each, in addition to the £1,000 from Trustee funds to provide more testing kits and the expensive replacement test reagents. **Outreach** – Alistair Young has continued to undertake many displays of the Augmented Reality sandbox in nine locations locally and nationally this year, enhancing the Trust’s presence. **Other matters** : - There was a well-attended river walk from Headley to Radford Park - The Executive attends the Wey Landscape partnership and has close connection with other interested groups. - A close watch is kept upon planning applications that potentially impinge upon the Southern Wey and its water quality. - The annual subscription has now risen to £10 per annum and Friends are ## requested to amend their Standing Orders to this amount. ## **Treasurer’s report:** (Statement of Financial Activities below) - In a year without income from our main annual fund-raising event, we incurred a loss of £259. - Income was mostly from ‘Friends’ subscription of £865 (prior year’s in brackets) - £865 (605) was received from 70 Friends. Of these , two (none)Life members gave £250. Of the other Friends £30 (none), two gave £25 (none), four gave £20 (four), thirty gave £10 (thirty) and thirty-one (thirtyfour) £5. - During the year the Friends’ annual fee was increased from £5 to £10. Many of the Standing Order Payments due on 1[st] June 2022 remained at the old amount. - The prior year’s Gift Aid refund was £108 - We received donations from Sand Box displays. - We received a donation of £50 from Lynchmere Parish Council - Total expenses were £1678, the major expenditure being £1,100 on tree maintenance at Griggs Green. We also purchased a Water Testing Kit at £105. Insurance was £256, compared to £206 in the prior year. - At the year-end, funds were £44,529, of which £5,141 is specifically for the Fish Passage Project. - Thus, we have £39, 388 for all other requirements. |**For the Period**
