Reserves Policv
The trustees consider the financial posrtion of the charity to be satidactory. Being in its early stage of
development, the Trustees will formulate a relevant reserve policy once positive reserves are held.
Future Plans
YMCA Newark and Sherwoo(J aims to deliver transformational opportunities to local young people, largely
through projects based at the YMCA Community and Activity Village.
. This custom-built resource provides an abundance of health and wellbein& sports. education. and h05Pitality
resources for the community, a5 well a5 a broad array of experient￿1 learning Opportunities desr8ned to
positively impact the lives of young people and families.
YMCA'S aspirations for this wonderful faality have only grown over many months of construction. a5 the
Village has taken shape. YMCA are commrtted to providing young people with the opportunity to belon&
contribute. and thrive, but a sense of belonging is greatly enhanced by a sense of place. YMCA'S hope is that
people of all ages will see the Village as a community within the wider community- a place to learn, exercise,
make friends. receive support. and grow.
Public Benefit
The trustees have Eiven due consideration to the Charity Commissions Guidance on the operation of the Public
Beneflt requirement. The charity aims to meet the needs of the community of Newark and Sherwood on the
streets, in schools and at the Community and Activity Village.

Responsibilities of the Trustees
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Annual Report and the Finanoal Statements in accordance with
the Companies Art 2006, and for being satisfied that the financial statements give a true and fair view. The
Trustees are also responsible for preparing financial statements in acetrdance with Untted Kingdom
Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Prarticel.
Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true
and fair view of ihe slate of affairs of the charitable company as at the balance sheet date and of its incoming
resoufces and application of resources including income and expenditure for the financial year. In preparing
those finanoal statements, the Trustees are required to=

also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charitable company and hence for taking reasonable steps
for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Thi5 report and the financial statements have been preparetl in aCc￿0anCe with the special provisions of Part
Vll of the companies Act 2006 relating to smaller companies.
Golng Concern
The trustees as￿5 whether the use of going concern is appropriate ie whether there any material
uncertainties related to events or conditions that may cast sEnificant doubt on the ability of the trust to
continue as a going concern. The trustees make this assessment each year in respect of a period of one year
from the date of approval of the financial statements. The parent company IYMCA Robin Hood Group) has
agreed support to ensure the company can meet it's commitments for at least 12 months from the balance

Review of the year
The YMCA'5 multi million pound development of the Community and Artivity Village in Newark
opened in July 2022. after encoLtnterire some delay.
The CAV aim5 to give young people a place where they can thrive, and several Sport5 and Activity
programmes have been successful in attracting high numbers of young people. The'community Sport.
Sessions such as football attrart between 70-80 per sess1￿ and the Roma Gypsy Traveller sessions were
so successful ihat they were granted further funding for 2023-24.
The CAV building encompasses a aimbing Wall with one of only four Olympic Speed Climbing w311s in
the whole of the UK. The Climbing Centre opened in Ociober 2022 and has steadily built a loyal
following of local and regional tlimbers who have yven excellent feedback regarding the standard of the
wall antl the knowledgeable staff team. The CAV Nursery opened in August 2022 and has increased its
enrolrnent month on month. The Functional Fitne55 area opened in October 2022 and provides an
Olympic level weightlifting facility along with cro￿FIt style classes.
A further sporting facility capital project was undertaken during the year a5 well in the form of a multidiscipline
Cycling Facility. The facility encompasse5 a Learn to Ride Track, a Green Mountain Biking
Trail. an Intefmediate Pump Track and an Advanced Level Pump track. This project Wa5 fvnded through
Sport England's Place5 to Ride Fund Ithrough British Cycling), the Derbyshire Environmental Trust
Ithrovgh Tam)acl and the YMCA Robin Hood Group.
Football Stands were also added to the Stadia Pitch in March 2023 to provide seating for the local football
clubs and teams. The stands were funded through YMCA Robin Group, Newark and Sherwood
District Council as well as the Premier League Stadia Fund.
During February 2023, there were several exoting business developments as Newark Business Club made
the CAV their perrnanent home. The YMCA also tal￿ched their Membership packages to the local
Commijnity and numbers have been steadily inc￿a$ln8 as people experience all that Is on offer at the
amazing CAV. The Villager. Supporter and Youth memberships all prowde bespoke programming and
cce55 to the facilities at the CAV harnessing the unique mix of sport. actiwty. health and wellbeing as
well as the integration of Developmental Assets in èll Programming.
September 2022 also saw several partners inhabit the CAV building. Newark College, part of Lincoln
College Group, moved into the Education Space delivering courses to both young people as well as
adults. Inspire als0 occupied an Education Space to deliver courses and Homestart and Insight both
moved into the CAV Business Space. The Business Space also became home to Robert Jenrick MP in
Winter 2022.
The CAV implemented Open Play for its membership svstem, and this will continue to be improved to
enhance the customer experience for everyone who uses the CAV facilities. The 5VStem a5515ts staff in
accommodating and organising the 4000+ people per week who make their way to the CAV.
2022-23 started with many challenges including the delay of the building completion, however the staff
team at the CAV have grown in strength and conftdence to understand and overcome many obstacl￿.

The project, which is unlike anywhere else in the UK, prowdes limitle55 Opportunity for young people and
all members of the local community to be pan of systemic change. The place-based approach of not only
the YMCA. bLrt also its community partners delivering a plethora of bespoke progrèmmes and services
(ledicated to improving the lives of young people is something that everyone at YMCA Newark &
Sherwood are very proud to be part of.
Prlndpal Rlsks and Uncertalntles
As with many small businesses, a key focus is in minimising cash flow exposure and in spite of recent
improvements in this area the topic continue5 to be re￿eWed weekly wtthin ihe business, ènd at each Board
meeting.

The Statement of Financial Activities shows a deficit for the year of E325.￿1￿2022- £210.1661.

risks of non-compliance with laws and regulations related to the arts by the charitable company. which were contrary to
applicable laws and regulations including fraud, and we considered the extent towhich non-compltance might have a material
effect on the financial statements. We also considered those laws and regulations that have a direct impact on the preparation
of the finantial statements such as the Companies Act 2(X16. We evaluated management's incentives and opportunities for
fraudulent manipulation of the financial statements (including the risk of override of controls), and determined that the
principal risks were related to inflated revenue and the charrfiable companrfs net income for the year and wtentlally

YMCA Newark and SherwocKI is a limited cornpany by guarantee. registered in En8land. The
address of the registered office is given in the charity information ¢)n page l of these financial
statements.
The charity constitutes a public entity as defined by FRS 102. The financial statements have been
prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended
Practice applicable to tharitie5 preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting
Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 issued October 2019 lsecond
edition). the Financial Reportin8 Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland
IFRS 1021. the Companies Act 2LK)6 and UK General Accepted Practice as it applies from l January
2015.
The financial statements are presented in 5teding which is the functional currency of the charity
8nd rounded to the nearest £. The financial statements are prepared under the historical c05t
convention
Going con￿rn
The trustees assess whether the use of g￿n8 concern is appropriate ie whether there any material
uncertainties related to events or condition5 that rnay cast significant doubt on the ability of the
trust to continue a5 a going concern. The trustees make this assessment each year in respect of a
period of one year from the date of approv31 of the financial statements. The parent company
(YMCA Robin Hood Group) has agreed support to ensure the company carb meet it's commitments
for at least 12 months from the balance Sheet 518ning date. YMCA Robin Hood Group has also given
parent company guarantee under Section 479A of the Companies Att 2(N)6.
Incomin8 resourtts
All incoming resources are induded in the Statement of Financial Activities when receipt is
probable or more likdy than not to be received, and the amount can be quantified wrih reasonable
accuracy.
Resources expended
All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis, and has been classified under headings that
ggregate all costs related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular
headings, they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with use of the resources.

Funds
Unrestricted funds are incoming resources receivable or generated for the objects of the charity
withoui further specified purpose and are available a5 general fund5.
Restricted funds are to be used for specific purposes as laid down by the donor. Expenditure which
meets this criteria is charged to the fund, together with a fair allocation of management anLI
support costs.
Fimed ass￿$ and depreciatlon
Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost less depreciation. Depreciation has been provided at the
follownE rates in order to write off the assets (less their estimated residual valuel over their useful

Commercial sponsorship from local businesses for the Newark Community & Acitvity Village.
Sponsoring various external elements including athletics tiack and stadia.
Thomas Farr Charlty
We received two separate grants from the Thomas Farr Charity to support vulnerable young people
and families in Newark.
Initial funding of £4,535 supported delivery of a sports programme for Syrian dads and their familie5
to support their integration into Newark and help them to develop healthier lifestyles. We PLrt on
weekly activities for the group through football, baskeiball, rounders and various Other sports, and all
participating families were given a goody bad Iconsisting of sports gear and picnic hampers) to
encourage them to stay active.
The other grant for £S,tXh) was to support a sports and OLrtreach officerto work wrth local schools to
identify young people that would benefit from an after school prograrnme. engaging them in fun
sports programmes that help them to develop healthier lrfestyles. The project also helped to develop
core life-skills including communication. confidence. teamworking and problem solving.
Sport England- Together Fund
Funding to support young people from the Romarry, Gypsy Traveller population to access a diverse
range of sports and health activities at the Community Village. The funding also gave u5 the platform
to bring in erternal services Such as health and education professionals to prwde relevant further
advice and guidance.
Sport England- Jubilee Fund
This funding helped us to engage people aged 50+ to engage in a wide variety of sports and health
activities- from volleyball to football. with the programme determined by the participants and peers.
Adventure Guides
We will be supporting parents from disadvantaged wards in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to
establish stronger relationships with their children as well as establishing new friendships With peers.
Y5 Glrls
We will be worktn8 wth 25 girls through a 1-2-1 mentoring xheme to help them develop confidence,
5elf-esteem and communication skills to help them truly belong. contribute and thrive.
Mi8hty Creatives
We will provide weekly workshop sessions for 25 young people aged 11-18 at our new Creative
Academy based from the YMCA Newark Village. These 5e55ions will be after school for 2 hours and will
be based around drama, dance and singing atttvities, with the aim of bringing teenagers together from
across Newark to create a community Christmas pantomime and grow in their skills and confidence.

YMCA Newark and Sherwood operate their a￿l¥ltieS through Newark Community and Attivity Village,
a faality owned by YMCA Rotxn Hood Gr¢)up. a tharity under COMM￿ management.
Durire the year. YMCA Robin Hood Group has charged YMCA Newa￿ and Shenvood a rental for this
facility which totalled £nil12022- £24.3361. In addition. costs and incorne associated with the running
of the facility have been funded by YMCA Robin Hood Group dufing the start up phase. This support
will continue for the foreseeable future. A new membership agreement to govern the arrangements
between the iwo charities will be in place by the end of the next finantial year. At the yeèr-end
balance of £857.07012022.' £522,113) was owed to YMCA Robin H￿)d Group.
The Zone Youth Projett
At the year-end 3 balance of £9.79712022.. £9.7971 was owed by The Zone yO￿h Projett to YMCA
Newark & Sherwood, a related charity through common management.
Malty Cross Ltd
At the year.end a balance of £92512022.. £nill was owed to The Zone Youth Projert by YMCA Newark
& Sherwood, 3 related charity through common management.
10. MEMBERS
The Charity is incorporated as a company limited by guarantee haMng no share capital and. in
accordance with the Memorandum of Association, every member ¥s liable to contribute a sum of not
more than £1 in the event of the A550Ciation being wound up. At 31 March 2023 there were 512022-
