Trustees Report

Summary of the charity’s main activities in relation to its objects (Cont.)

The church continues to service the local community in a variety of ways. Every week

the church hosts a choir rehearsal which attracts up to 8 parents and their children.

On a monthly basis the church holds a Coffee Morning on its premises. This affords

an opportunity for locals to meet up with each other and to chat. For some, who live

alone, this ministry affords an opportunity to interact with those around them and to

build friendships and connections with others.

We have also initiated a Youth Group, which has attracted up to around 5 teenagers.

The church operates a busy schedule, and its building is in use every day of the week, and Sunday services are always well attended

Purpose – goal

The goal of our project 2020-2021 was the BAME Mental Health Support Matter. The main goal of the project designed to support families and healthcare professional from black and Asian minorities background mostaffected by Covidl9 Pandemic.

The core purpose of our project was to raise awareness and take actions and address the urgent mental health, and wellbeing needs of the UK's BAME communities

NEW BREATH INTERNATIONAL MISSION

Activities

We used digital and radio communication as an important part of the project's implementation. We were fortunate to collaborate with Diversity radio, a leading BAME radio station that is a project of Real Insight, to deliver the project.

We recruited and trained a total of 21 families and mental health practitioners on a fully accredited mental health first aid course. These families and practitioners, who are usually the first point of contact for members of our community when they face problems, have helped others in the community to understand mental health first aid. We now have a group of mental health first aiders in the community who can raise awareness and take action to address mental health in our community.

Achievement

The project was an access point for individuals and families to access free advice and support, including - We believe that this project supported many families who were very affected by the loss of their jobs or the death of family members during this pandemic.

We also ran a total of 16 mental health and healthy eating sessions on the radio. These sessions were organised and broadcast by Diversity Radio, which has an audience of over 2,000 ethnic minority listeners.

5

We are now a member of the National Survivor User Network (NSUN), a registered charity that supports over 5,000 mental health survivors in the UK and has recently launched a campaign to support the BAME community.

We have completed two cohorts of training and are currently working on a three-year business plan with the aim of making this a permanent project for our organisation and community. There is a huge demand for further training, and we already have a waiting list of 18 people who are interested in participating in the next training that we may run.
