CEO Report2025/2026
First of all I would like to thank all of the Watch-keepers and Trustees for their excellent efforts and commitment over the last year, in keeping Redcar Coastwatch running, by the very high standards that it has achieved. You are a credit to the Station.
I have only taken over the role as ‘Chair’since the beginning of March this year (2026) and I am proud to have been asked to take on the role. The previous ‘Chair’ Mr. Trevor Smith was with
‘Redcar Coastwatch’ for 25 years and was a loyal servant with very high standards. Trevor keeps in touch on a regular basis, and is always there for advice.
The Station currently has 20 Senior Watch-keepers, with 3 trainees. Peter (who is attached to the Friday morning watch) Carol and Alan, are still training on a Monday afternoon with Keith, but I believe it will not be long before they are also attached to a watch.
We will be advertising again for new recruits in the next few weeks, as we still have a number of watches with only one ‘Watch-keeper’ and as we approach the summer months It is important that we have two keepers on duty.
Thanks to Derek Youngs, who has recently become a Trustee. I am aware that we will need new Trustees shortly, as they have a 4 year tenure, and some are coming to the end of their tenures. (Some Keepers have already volunteered.)
At the end of the year 2025, we as a Station and team had done the following, Fishing boats (local)....observed 1,000 boats leaving our shores and returning safely. RNLI...Observed 51 training sessions until safely completed.
Other vessels at sea....385, these included PWC (Jet Skis), surfers, wind-kites, swimmers, divers, shell-pickers, persons on the scars/rocks, and other types of persons/crafts at sea and on the shore. Incidents (HCG/RNLI) involved....70...including missing persons, ‘Mayday’, ‘Mayday relays’, ‘self harm’ and suicide/attempted suicides, yachts/PWC and other vessels in trouble out at sea, motor vehicle stuck on the shore, and other incidents.
On 30 th October, 2026, Redcar Coast-watch, will have been going for 30 years, a very honourable and fantastic achievement. I am hoping to organise something so that we can all get together and celebrate our part in this incredible journey.
Although we have had some expensive outgoings so far this year; -‘Safe go’ personal alarm.

I am informed by the Treasurer that we are still in a healthy financial position.
A personal thanks to Tim Foley (Secretary) for his support and guidance, Ray Preston (Station Controller) a fountain of knowledge, Keith Stockdale (Trainer/Deputy Station Controller.) for his support and knowledge, and not forgetting his training of new volunteers. And not forgetting the Treasurer, Mrs Thomas, who has been getting some good sponsorship funds.
So, on a final note, thank-you all for your efforts, keep up the fantastic work, stay alert and stay healthy.
