Governanco. and Management Downham Baptist Church is a Charitable Incorporated OrgantsatM)n {CIO) that is govemed by an approved Constrtution and Bylaws which states that: 'Under the authorty of Jesus Christ and the Word of God. the Membership of the Church is the final authorty within this Ic>cal chuh,. Membership of the church is open to anyone who professes the Christian faith in a¢¢ord- ance with the church's Basis of Faith, has been baptised by immersion after satvatlon and satisfbes such other requirements as have been specified by the Church Constitution and By- laws. The authorty of th8 rnembership is normally exercised through Ihe ele¢tion of officers to govern the church. The Officers of the church are the Pastor, any Assistant Pastor(s) and Deacon{s) as well as the Se¢retsry and the Treasurer (in the event that the Secretary and Treasurer are not Deacons). The charity trustees of the church are the parsons akyointed to the offices of Pastor, Deacon8, Secretary and Treasuier. The members of Ihe church must meet at least every 15 months for an annual general meet- ing (AGM) but normally meet every quarter. Th8 charity trustees must meet every quarter to manage the administration of the church. ODOWNHAM BAPTIST CHL'RCH The church advances the Christian farth by prea¢hing the Gospel, through public worship services. Small group and individual Bknle studies. personal disGipleship, and varuS outreach events and efforts in the communty. Every week, the church also educates people about the Christian faith at Sunday servIs, and in small group Bible studies. The church provides pastoral care and Ixrtreach by teaching God's Word appropriate to the needs of the m8rnb8rs and attendees and equipping th8 members to be actNety involved in pastoral care and outrexh as a demonstratson of their Christian faith. The church ondeavours to train and support MSnarIeS to carry the gospel to ¢)ther parts of the United Kingdom and overseas. Those trained as mi8sN)naries will then go out to other parts of the world with the gospel message. Financial support for missionaries is given by the church members to a rnissionary fund arml then paKI directty to the individual the ¢har- ity the individual works with. The church benefrts the general public by providing worshlp servlces that are open to the general public, providing information about the Christian faith through various outreach events and efforts and by providing training and Menting for those who desire to seNe a8 Christian workers. The worship seNices. small group Bible studies. and other events and Clubs are open to an- yone who wishes to attend. Personal dtscipleship and further Iraining and mentoring are more selective, giving priority to those who have become members, have attended faithfully, and who have the potential lo 90 and teach and train others. This is alway$ done with the long-term aim of trying to benefit poopie frorn all backgrounds. Such decision8 are made in accordance with the procedures set out in the constitution, taking into accounl the principles Set out In the Bible and the context in which those winoples are applied today. Achievements and Porfornian 11 was o difficult yeaT for our Church as our Pastor res3ned for both family and financial re4- sons. H8 announced his resignation during a memberfs meeting on 21 January but contin- ued as pastor untll 17 Mar 2024. Th8 members voted to continue as a Church with consideThon gwen to how that would work and the roles to be filw. As a result of our pastor resigning we fomied a pastor seaT¢h mmIttee on 4 February to search for a suitable person to fill this role. In the interim we were able to fill the Pul with a man familiar with the Church and mem- bers, and did so on a volunteer basis. On 3 March a new Trustee was Voted in to replace the pastor and a pastoral search commit- tee was formed.
DOWNHAM BA P T I S T C 11 U R C 11 Addir¥J to this, London City Mission sold the property we were hiriThJ After securing a new place lo hire at the Motlingham Community Centre we Conducted our last SeiCe at 60 Churchdown, Brornley on 22 May and the building was turned over on 24 May, 2024. Due to moving location and not having a pemianenl pla lo keep physical assets of the Church, a team was organised for taking inventory for accounlability reasons. Some items were sold and monies added to the church a¢¢ounl with records kept and information relayed to the mernbers as it progressed. Several new members were added to the church, wilh others considering, but also one member being removed from membership on mutual agreement. A new pastor was voted in on 21 July arKI Is expected to be in place by earty 2025. One person was added as an authorised person for bank related lasks for the Church and two others removeé. The Church voted unanimously to give our new pastor Iinanoal assistance with moving related costs. Outreach continued within our local community throLbgh canvassing the neighborhood with Gospel leaflets arKI engaging people one-on-one. A fairly accurate estimate of thirty-five new visitors came throughout the year, some from the Greater London area and some from other countries. Several events for Men and Women were held throughout the year lo help meet their spiritual needs and welfa, including prayer breakfasts. walks. camping and Ladies Bible Studies Other Churches in England, of like faith, were engaged to extend fellowship, outside th8 scope of our local area.
