STOKE BARDOLPH VILLAGE HALL charity number 1177690

Dear Customer Services Officer

I enclose a paper printout of the annual returns for 2025 for the above charity. Having spent many hours typing (in vain) to send by email, all goes well until the last request, ‘choose a file’! What file? When I try to select one, my computer does not recognise it, failing to complete the return, and the alloted time runs out.

In desperation I called the charity commission and spoke to Philip, who was very helpful, advising how to select this file, but again my equipment fails to respond.

We are a very small village hall, we make no profit, we employ no-one, we do not invest, it is run solely by a few unpaid elderly volunteers. Our total income for 2025 as you will see, was £3.792 with expenditure of £6.443. Our bank balance hovers around £1000 at any one time.

However your returns notice states that any charity with an income of under £10.000 only has to report their income and spending. So why in our case is our return sheet so complex? i.e choosing a file.

Maybe a simpler system for small community meeting places could be introduced, for them to enjoy the advantages of being a charity, though having little funds to employ a professional accountant.

On the back of this I’ve decided to resign as a Trustee from 31st of January, therefore can all future communication go to the other Trustee Stephen Wright at steve1001@virginmedia.com but you will have his contacts on file anyway. He will provide you with the names of new trustees in due course. I also enclose another copy of his recent report.

Can I just ask that you display on your public records our correct return for this year, not a detrimental one which happened mistakenly once before. Our figures are there for you to see though rather small for which I apologise.

With kind regards
