Christian Responsibility in Public Affairs Charity Registration Number 117763 (Community Interest Company or CIO) Trustees Annual Report 1 July 2021- 30 June 2022 Structure, governance and management The Charity is constituted as a CIO with a goveming document. The Trustees during the period 1 July 2021- 30 June 2022 were Lord Griffiths of Fforestfach, Lord Mccoll of Dulwich CBE MS FRCS FACS FRCSE, Mrs Anne Devlin, The Reverend John Lenton, The Rt Hon Ruth Kelly. Mr Stewart Newton FCA. and Mr Philip Wood. All the Trustees are active in attending Trustee meetings and events organised by the CIO and participate in the planning of activities. The Trustees are common to this CIO and a Trust (Christian Responsibility in Public Affairs (International Christian Leadership) Charity registration 253426). The Trustees have been in the process of moving the operations. bank balances and other assets to this CIO from the Trust. Accordingly, a similar Trustees Annual Report has been prepared for the two charities other than an explanation of the structure and the separate statements of financial activities. The combined operations of the charities are known as CRPA. Objectives and activities CRPA was set up to support lay people holding positions of influence and responsibility and to help them relate their faith to their work, to be more informed on topical subjects and to be better equipped to cary out their roles in public service. Activities include dinners. lectures. talks. panels, conferences and small group meetings that are organised with international speakers from business, finance, politics, education. religion. arts and the media. Through CRPA, people have been encouraged to be involved in responding to community needs, charitable ventures and educational initiatives. CRPA is ecumenical and has no political affiliation. Achievements and perforniance Despite the continuing restrictions of Covid. CRPA was able to hold in person events as well as online Zoom meetings and over 900 people attended different events organised by the charity. Speakers have included Government Ministers, Former Ministers. MP'S, Members of the House of Lords, CEO'S. Former Governorofthe Bank of England, broadcasters. journalists. authors, psychologists. academics. doctors, entrepreneurs, politicians, senior Civil Servants, Chief Executives of NGO'S. Archbishops, bankers, business and other professional people. The subjects of the talks have included 'lnflation is about more than money.; 'The other long Covid - spin.tual challenges and recovery- where do we go from here?. 'Freedom of Speech,. ' The purpose and dignty of work- has Covid altered OUrperptlons?.
In December 2021 an Advent Service took place with Lord Griffiths of Fforestfach speaking and over 400 people attended as well as many others joining online. For many, it was the first big event they had attended Sin the pandemic. In addition, CRPA continued to send out articles on topical subjects written by Friends of CRPA and distributed regularly online within the CRPA network. The Trustees held regular meetings in person and on Zoom throughout the year to meet for prayer and fellowship and to plan and discuss the range of activities. The Trustees regularly evaluate the impact that the activities of the charity have on meeting its objectives and for the benefit of public good. Financial Review and Reserves policy The Trustees regularly assess the financial position of CRPA. They monitor the expenditure and seek a healthy balance of reserves. CRPA relies on a relatively small number of donors to support its work so sufficient reserves are maintained should donations decline for a limited period. The policy is to hold about 12 months of anticipated expenditure in resetves in the BlackRock Charities Fund with the balance held in bank deposits. All activities are always planned and budgeted within available resources. During this financial year, CRPA opened a new bank account and a new BlackRock account for this CIO. During this prOsS the old accounts remained open at the Trust until the assets could be transferred to this CIO. Please note that on 26 May 2022, 19,306.979 units of the BLK Charities UK Bond Fund A Inc were transferred from BlackRock account 00003779 (held by the Trust, CRPA Reg 253426) to account 00057429 (held by this CIO. CRPA Reg 1177663). A copy of the statement of financial activities for the year ended 30 June 2022 is attached to this report. The Trustees maIn confident that CRPA has adequate reSoUrS to enable it to conts'nue to operate satisfactorily. The Trustees are reporting the financial activities on a 'ReIpts and Payments, basis using a template recommended by the Charity Commission for small non- company charities with a gross income of £250.000 or less.
