Trustees, Annual Report and Accounts For Let's Educate Them (LET) 1177655) The Trustees of "Let's Educate Them" present the annual report for "Let Education System" for the year ending 31/03/2023. We confirm that the report complies with the requirements of the 'Charities Act 2011, and the 'Foundation Model Constitution,. Our Aims Let's Educate Them is a UK-registered charity (1177655) established in 2018 and operating in the poorest areas of Pakistan. We provide free education for underprivileged children, prioritising education for girls. We have established a school in Rahim Yar Khan in the underdeveloped and very poor South Punjab region, according to our 'Foundation Model Constitution, and according to the needs and requirements of the 21st centur¢s education system. The objective of our organization is to benefit the public by advancing female education in the UK and Pakistan through the provision of schools and other educational training facilities. We built the school literally'from the ground up, with funds provided by the Trustee team and with the hard efforts of the local community. The school opened in 2018 initially with just 10 pupils, all of whom were girls. However, the establishment of our school in the region quickly started to generate real excitement, with many girls (and boys) flocking to access this new opportunity for education. Achievements and Activities so far (March 2023) UK: We continued our support to help children online. We extended our support to all those children and parents who came in contact and
showed interest in getting educational help irrespective of their financial status, free of charge. Our bank (Barclays Bank Plc) initiative of 'next door, helped us to offer our services to all those who wanted to benefit from it. Pakistan: Girls, education in southern Punjab is not encouraged and even frowned upon- education for girls is thought to spoil and distract from attention to household tasks, and there is no value placed on girls attaining more than a primary education many villages in Southern Punjab exemplify these issues, where women either only work labour jobs to support their families, or are not allowed to work at all. Many areas of Southern Punjab (like Rajanpur) have a very small ratio of functioning girls, schools which, in addition to the above- prevailing issues, is also largely due to a severe lack of government funding. Our school is structured to encourage girls, education although we co-educate both boys and girls through primary and middle school levels up to Grade 8, we prioritise girls, education through secondary school, as only 13 per cent of girls are still in school by ninth grade. The school has developed greatly since its founding and now provides an excellent quality curriculum of primary, middle, and secondary education, for 365 school pupils 250 of which are girls. Last September's recent torrential rain and flooding in South Punjab hit the school area hard, devastating key classrooms and other infrastructure. The floods caused by La Nina have claimed the lives of six schoolchildren, in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the torrents have taken their toll on the infrastructure of many schools, healthcare facilities, roads, electricity lines, and irrigation canals in the region. The impact on the LET Education System (LES) has been devastating- many of our school buildings sustained significant water damage.
Several classrooms have been badly hit; toilet blocks, sanitation, and underground sewerage systems have been significantly damaged, requiring major repairs, and much of the school's electrical systems require urgent attention and are unsafe to use until fully certified repairs have been undertaken. The results initially affected all our school pupils and temporarily forced us to close the whole school. As a matter of urgency, our Trustees have rightly stepped in, along with friends of the charity and the local community, all of whom have donated their money, time, and effort in limiting the damage and we have been able to undertake some of the most essential repairs enough to re-open the school in a limited capacity and continue with some classes. With the substantial help of the chair, our noble friends, and the community, we have brought our school back to 80% of its former glory and function, maintaining our support for girls, education, and providing an educational lifeline to children who would otherwise be diverted into child labour activities to support their families. We have undertaken an urgent project to repair 3 storm and flood-damaged classrooms, 3 of 4 sanitation and sewerage systems (we have repaired I system and guttering), and the road leading to the school, along with replacing educational materials that were also severely damaged by the torrential rain and floods. We are working hard to bring our school back to full function, and to ensure that our pupils do not fall back into child labour. We will continue our endeavours to increase the capacity of our school to accommodate those young, deserving boys and girls who want to follow this educational path to become broad-minded, positive, diligent, and fertile members of the community rather than dipping into child labour and become hardliner and extremists.
