DP Newsletter

Our Focus
Positive parental engagement - This was a great discussion at the last DP Champions group meeting. As a starting point we’d like everyone to email or call TWO parents of DP students in any year group each week with something POSITIVE – thank you. Please keep us posted if you do get any feedback. If there are two households, and it’s appropriate to do so, please contact both homes with positive praise. Knowing our DP - When emails are sent out about students, please mark (DP) next to any DP student. As after school activities begin to re-start, please can you let us know any DP who attend? Student Engagement - Trips, visits, speakers are beginning to start up and we’d also like to know which DP are involved. Please actively encourage them to participate, we know many of these students will not get these opportunities at home.

Anwen Rigby -Playforth – Now has EHCP and attends Home Hospital Tuition (HHTS).
Callum Hoy - Concerns around behaviour and decisions he is making. Use the system clearly. Must have work differentiated for him. Warnings to ensure he understands. Mentoring to start 12[th] April. Year 11
Will Coulton Stephenson – is now in care in Barrow. Now on a very part time timetable and working on Maths and English.
Other news +
Changes to the list: Mamie Tomlinson 11- removed
Student Champion Jack Birkett 8.1
Excellent ATL scores in reports, engaged really well during lockdown, keen and eager to learn.
Please Remember Quality teaching first Seating plans - please sit DP next to a student who has high expectations and somewhere you are able to see the quality of work they are producing. They need to be easy to access, e.g. on the end of a row, near the teacher’s desk so there’s always an ongoing conversation with those pupils. Please ensure any homework set can be accessed by all students - paper copies where necessary, differentiated where appropriate
DP Profle
There is a wide ability range of our DP students. Hugo Page has benchmarks of 7s and 7+s, some high grades here. He loves dance and his Mum has always engaged with school. His ATL scores were around 3.5 but he clearly needs pushing on his homework. Please encourage Hugo so he can achieve these high grades.
Attendance
We are working hard to narrow the gap between DP and non DP attendance. Maddie Loughlin – Attendance has improved. Knows she has missed a lot of work which is worrying her. Please give her manageable targets.
Jack Pointon - Back to full timetable now following temporary measures. Recently living with Gran. Needs lots of encouragement.
Leah Coulton Yr 11 –Has been in for English with RBr after school. After easter, we hope to get her in for Maths tutoring.
Logan Garnett Morgan – has struggled to return. Parents very supportive. Ongoing home visits and support.
Tom Johnson Yr 7 – Lates and timekeeping an issue. Now has a watch that Liam has loaned him – seems to be having some effect. EHCP referral in.
Emma Fotheringham – much improved attendance. Thrives off praise.
