Chair’s Report September 2019- August 2020
What a year it has been!
September began with our annual Fun Day which was a huge success. Over 200 people came and enjoyed scones and then a hog roast and the free entertainment which we had put on for them.
The Café continued to do exceptionally well and build friendships and bridges within the community. At Christmas we did the Carols round the Tree in conjunction with the Rogiet Community Council again which was well attended and had our usual visit from Father Christmas and Little Tigers.
And then in March 2020 our whole world changed! We had to shut the café because of the Covid 19 pandemic, and we haven’t been able to reopen. During this time we did manage to continue doing Fareshare outside the hall to be compliant with the rules. This was a great benefit to the community, ensuring that those in need were looked after. Individually our volunteers also made sure that our regulars who would struggle because of lockdown, were looked after.
The Rogiet Community Shop and Café project has been pushing forward. We had some major problems with the LAG group for the LEADER grant but we proved that the allegations made were completely unfounded and due to one man who, for unknown reasons, wanted to derail the project. This caused a lot of hurt but we dealt with it professionally and have moved on. Then the pandemic hit so meetings were held on zoom with the architect but our project manager has continued to work on the project. We are confident that despite the challenges of working in a pandemic we will stay on course with the build.
We never envisaged a year like this but we have adapted and found ways to do what we do best – to keep looking after our community and give them hope for the future.
