It is managed in accordance with the rules of a small charity as deemed by the Charity commission by a minimum of 3 Trustees who meet at least 2 times a year and communicate at regular intervals. Election of trustee is made and takes place at the charity AGM annually. Names are proposed and seconded before the election. No other person or body is entitled to appoint a trustee. All trustees were re-elected to act on behalf of the charity for 2021/2022. ## **Objectives and Activities for the public interest** The Charity Objectives are to relieve the needs of people living on the Isle of Wight who are diagnosed with brain tumours, their families and carers for the public benefit by the provision of support, advice, and financial assistance to meet costs or pay for services. The Charity continues to support and raise funds for Smile4Wessex the charity providing charitable support to the Wessex Neurological Centre at Southampton General Hospital. This is where the majority of Isle of Wight patients will be treated if diagnosed with a brain tumour. The charity continues to support and raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity, as they carry out vital research into treatments, which will ultimately give the patient an improved prognosis and an increased and better quality of life. Fundraising throughout 2020 and early 2021 was limited due to the Covid 19 pandemic, which resulted in a substantial decline in income for this period. It was necessary for the charity to adopt alternative ways to support families throughout the pandemic; for instance, in many cases accommodation was provided (rather than travel) for patients who required treatment in Southampton; thus reducing travel on public transport and protecting vulnerable patients from unnecessary exposure to the virus. Monthly Support Groups were suspended from March 2020 due to Covid restrictions. Face to face support transferred to online and telephone. Care packages were delivered to the most vulnerable families. All funding commitments were fulfilled. A donation of £8000 was made to Smile4Wessex The Charity undertakes a range of community fundraising activities and events culminating in an annual black-tie ball to celebrate success; however, most events in 2020 were cancelled due to Covid restrictions. The trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance in the charity commissions general guidance on public interest when reviewing the charities aims and objectives and in future planning activities. The trustees are satisfied with the income generated, given the challenges faced with fundraising. 3 ## The Wight Brainy Bunch Report and Financial Statements Year Ended 31[st] March 2021 ## **Financial Review** During the year the charity received an income of **£50475.27** and financed charitable expenditure of **£35407.75** The trustees are planning to take financial advice with regards to investments to safeguard future projects in a volatile financial climate. ## **Plans for the future** The trustees have begun to plan for fundraising events and activities in 2022, including the annual skydive and black-tie ball. ## **Trustees’ responsibilities in relation to the financial statements,** Trustees are responsible for preparing the annual report and financial statement in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom generally accepted accounting practice. Law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial which gives a true and fair view of the charity’s financial activities during the year and of its financial position at the end of the year.
