Achievements and Performance

|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | Having received an injection 0f £200,000 from the will of Professor Ruth Bellairs, we were advised by Finn and Co that we could draw down at least £5,000 per year in income without risk to the capital. The world economic situation and the impact on investments over the past 12 months mean that the funds have not performed as well as anticipated, but outgoings have so far been met from the bank account without the need to realise any investments. In discussion with Tollesbury Primary School, we have set up a programme of music tuition to allow all class 4 pupils access to a full year of specialist music teaching. This has been well supported by Essex County Council who have provided additional funding. In addition, we have bought extra Glockenspiels for the school, to ensure there are enough to do musical work with the other year groups. A drumming workshop was also funded, involving all the children in a noisy, fun day. Going forward, the plan is for the current year 4 children to be offered subsidised individual flute lessons in year 5, and to start again with whole class teaching for the next year 4 group. The feedback from the school – and from individual parents – has been immensely positive. They have highlighted the improvement in concentration, confidence and posture (playing the flute) as well as the enormous enjoyment the children have had and the educational value of musical literacy. |
