The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) which was registered on 13th March 2018. ## **Trustees of the charity** The trustees who have served during the year and since the year end were as follows: D McLennan - Chairperson A Knowles - Secretary S Moss D Ridsdale K Merton R Penty – appointed 5 March 2025 The Board of Trustees are responsible for the overall management and decision making of the charity, from events to raising money and awareness of the charity’s aims and vision, to the administration of grants and the deliverance of events for the people who benefit from our work, which are referred to as ‘dreams’. They are designed to combat the negative effects of cancer and fight impacts of further mental health conditions, including post diagnosis PTSD. The day-to-day running is overseen by The Chairman, Trustees and run by the working Directors. The Board meets quarterly through meetings but not confined to this structure and several – or all – of the board members meet as and when required, for example in the build up to a specific event. The directors are also assisted by a team of Events Co-ordinators, Community Co-ordinators, Healthier Activities Co-ordinator and Youth Ambassador, whose valuable input plays an important role in our work. Regarding the recruitment of trustees, anybody can become involved in the work that the charity does and if somebody would like to go a step further and become a trustee, this would be considered by the board and voted for either at the annual meeting or one of the other meetings we have throughout the year. Alternatively, should the charity recognise the potential in somebody to add value to the trust and help us to better achieve our stated aims and objectives, the board may ask somebody to become a trustee and again this will be voted upon. All our Trustees and volunteer team, give their time free of charge, and no remuneration or expenses were paid to the Trustees or Co-ordinators in the year. ## **Activities and objectives** The main objective of the Trust is to provide, or help to provide, local cancer sufferers with a ‘dream’ or ‘wish’, usually in the form of an event or service (for example a day out, holiday, wedding, garden renovation etc) to combat the negative effects of cancer and fight the onset of post diagnosis PTSD and other Mental Health conditions. Although this is the main aim, we also aim to help one person a year that isn’t related to cancer (Eve’s Grant) and promote healthy activities for local people, an ideal which is not only shared by the Board but was also very much in keeping with Eve Merton’s personal philosophy. These aims are from using the experiences and grief of losing a mother, taking both the positives and negatives from those challenging months and using them to help other local families going through the same things. Page 2 ## **The Eve Merton Dreams Trust** ## **Report of the Trustees For the Year Ended 30 June 2025** ## **Achievements and performance** After a strategic financial turnaround in the 2023/24 financial year, transitioning to a new leadership structure and a more “sustainability” focussed approach, it was important to continue with this momentum in 2024/25. We knew from the off there would be inflated numbers to both expenses and income, partly due to the influx of lottery funding that would be seen for a full financial year for the first time. However, it was key that these numbers would still show a healthy profit to continue the good work put in to turn the ship. 2024/25 would also see an almost full financial year, for the charities new Treasurer/Trustee Robert Penty, finalising the transition of the new governance team. Then additionally, a full year for the charities two new national lottery funded “Dreams Coordinator” roles, having started in April 2024. This financial year again started, and ended, on the back of a successful Legends football event, the charities marque fundraising event. May 2025’s event raised a grand total of £158,000, which was a £51,000 increase on 2024 and brought a profit of 51%. Breaking records across the boards for awareness, ticket sales, fundraising and profit. The additional funds, and the new Dreams Coordinator roles, would securely open up the charities ability to increase the volume of dreams it was able to answer. Whereas we have always managed to answer the dreams we receive with volunteer support, the new roles really ensured this process wasn’t as stretched and as taxing as it once was. This lead to a 35.3% raise in the amount of Dreams we were able to answer, something we consider a huge success for the year. ## **THE DREAMS:** ## **A Mums trip to remember** In December 2020 my mum had a diagnosis of a potential polyp in her endometrial layer. After a scan they said no cancer. They went to do a hysterectomy but that was abandoned as they found strands that were suspicious. My mum underwent 6 rounds of chemotherapy every 3 weeks for 4 hours each time. She finally rang the bell, had her hysterectomy and was cancer free. 2024 arrived and she had a few pulling aches that were mentioned to her consultant. They weren’t worried, but CT showed strands again. She started the same chemo again (6 rounds) on the second one she had to abandon it to have a picc line put in. She has been absolutely brave and fierce through it all. My husband took part in the charities Liverpool legends event, so we got to learn a little more about the charity and what it does. We so wanted to give her something back for being the most amazing lady, mum and grandma. We had some support from a couple of charity volunteers Hanif and Sifa, we finally applied for a dream, and we quickly got it approved. Our dream coordinator was amazing and got it all booked the same day. We still feel like we don’t deserve it somehow. We’re relatively lucky in life, we have food, family and a roof over our heads, but my mum definitely deserves the world. When we told mum what we had done and what we were about to do, Mum cried of course, and we just couldn’t wait for London! Then it was here, we were off to London. Mum has been so brave, fighting this disease twice now and just got on with her life. Once the happy tears of finding out about the dream cleared, she didn’t stop smiling the whole time. From getting to the train, to dropping us back at home afterwards. The trip was incredible, the hotel was stunning and near the river Thames, so we had plenty of things to see/do/eat, Page 3 ## **The Eve Merton Dreams Trust** ## **Report of the Trustees For the Year Ended 30 June 2025** plus they made us their VIP guests for the day. Then to round it off, the Back to the Future show was Amazing!! I cannot thank The Eve Merton Dreams Trust enough, from everybody who we’ve spoken to or helped us, Hanif, Sifa, Baileigh & Martin, to everybody who raises money to help Dreams like this come true. I’d like to think the smiles in our pictures show how much of a difference this made to my mum. I could thank you forever, but it wouldn’t ever seem enough xx Some good news to end with. Mum has 2 chemo session left and her CA125 gene has reduced to an almost safe level xx ## **Princess for a day** The following is the story of Tish, a remarkable young lady whose touched the hearts of everyone she’s been in contact with. Her lifelong dream, to be and feel like a Princess for the day, just like in Disney. Please read her story and comments from Tish When Tish had a breast cancer recurrence at 27 the Chatsfield Suite, Doncaster Royal Infirmary suggested she think of a dream that the Eve Merton Dreams Trust could bring to life. Following deterioration after a period of stability and the commencement of weekly chemotherapy to prolong her life further with few guarantees, on her 29th birthday she was asked again and expressed her dream of being a Princess for a day: feeling beautiful in a gown and tiara somewhere lovely with the people she loves having tasty food and capturing it all in photographs. The Eve Merton Dreams Trust, in particular Baileigh, working hard with the nurses at the Chatsfield Suite magicked the dream into reality in three weeks. A couple of beautiful, panelled rooms at the stunning Wentworth House were transformed with bows and decorations in purple and yellow, the colours of Tish’s favourite Disney Princess Rapunzel for a royal afternoon tea. The day started with professional nails by Alex Harvey and makeup for her and her mum by Saskia Booth, before dressing in beautiful gowns and tiaras. A stunning matching bouquet and buttonhole for her stepfather were the icing on the cake (never mind the fantastic Rapunzel cupcakes for later by “Els kitchen”!). Her and her parents arrived in style in a beautiful white Rolls Royce supplied by Helen and “Roy at Tyson’s limousines”, to a waiting crowd of friends and family outside the stately house. Evestrust’s photographer Andy captured every moment just as Tish had hoped. Arrival in the rooms was accompanied by a cellist playing beautiful music and welcome drinks. Guests wrote in a guestbook and left their fingerprints on a memory tree. Place settings in the next room were decorated stunningly and guests sat and listened to a wonderful vocalist singing Disney Princess songs. Afternoon tea was served with finger sandwiches, savouries, scones and desserts on beautiful tableware. Speeches were made and tears were shed. A second singer then entertained with more Disney before the guests danced their way to the end of the day, throwing rose petals outside the house. Beautiful professional photos of the day were sent, and a canvas made of her favourite as a cherished reminder of such a magical day. Tish personally shared, “I’ve found the Eve Merton trust to be a truly magical charity. When things are darkest, they take a dream that, in my case I was a little embarrassed about, and with this kind professionalism and absolute enthusiasm make it into a reality. The Princess Day Baileigh created for me was everything I could have dreamt of and so, so much more! Those memories will stay with me and my family, friends, making us smile forever. I’m ever so grateful.” Page 4 ## **The Eve Merton Dreams Trust** ## **Report of the Trustees For the Year Ended 30 June 2025** ## **A 17th Birthday to remember** We contacted Eves trust to help us to organise a party to celebrate my daughter finishing treatment for a brain tumour and being discharged from Oncology after 5 years of clear scans. Georgia was also turning 17 and due to damage to her vision from the tumour pressing on her optic nerves she wouldn’t be able to drive, so we wanted to do something special and memorable for her birthday, so she could focus on the positives! Georgia wanted a party that she could wear a special dress, dance and celebrate with her friends and family. She loves purple so asked for that to be the theme and for it to be girly and glittery! To make it extra special she asked for a photo booth to get lots of photos and enjoy having a laugh with everyone. Something she’d really enjoyed at her prom. Due to the short timeline and the fact it was a 17th birthday, we did struggle to get a venue but Eves trust persevered and found somewhere local to us. They arranged a DJ with a disco and a brilliant photo booth to be there. They organised catering and of course a birthday cake and balloons! Our Eves trust Dreams Coordinator provided absolutely everything and went out of their way to make it a special evening for Georgia and all her friends and family. As for Georgia, she had a fabulous evening and did not stop smiling, exactly what wanted for her. Thank you so much for your help making it so special. Rebecca and Georgia xxx ## **A boy with a dream** The following is a story of a little man who battled cancer but maintained his one true dream in life. This is Seth’s story: “Our son Seth was diagnosed with high-risk B cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, back in 2021, when he was just 5 years old. It was a very rough journey, with alternative car T cell therapy treatment at great Ormond Street, after his cancer was initially resistant to the standard chemotherapy treatment. Fast forward to June 2024, after a gruelling 3 years of treatment, he finally got to ring that “end of treatment” bell, and we are happy to say he is now in remission and doing very well. Seth is a big fan of motorbiking. It’s the only thing that got him through his treatment, counting down to being allowed to ride his bike again. For his special end of treatment wish he really wanted his own custom helmet to compete in. This is where Eves trust came in and granted his wish. Lauren, our Dreams Coordinator, was so helpful from start to finish. Seth absolutely loves his new helmet and really looks the part now, ready to compete in his next race season! Hopefully he will bring back some gold trophies. Thank you for everything you do Eves trust, you made a brave little boy very happy!” Page 5 ## **The Eve Merton Dreams Trust** ## **Report of the Trustees For the Year Ended 30 June 2025** ## **Financial review** The Statement of Financial Activities shows a total surplus of £17,896. The charity has unrestricted funds of £82,664 and restricted funds of £34,539 at the year end. The trustees consider that reserves will hold steady to ensure that, in the event of a significant drop in funding, they will be able to continue the charity’s current activities so that dreams can be met and funded properly. I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. ## **Basis of independent examiner's report** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or 3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view’ which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. ACOUNTING POLICIES** ## **Accounting convention** The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) – second edition published in October 2019 , the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102), the Charities Act 2011 and UK Generally Accepted Practice as it applies from 1 January 2019. The Eve Merton Dreams Trust is a charity formed in England within the United Kingdom. The principal address is given in the charity information on page 1 of these financial statements. These financial statements are presented in sterling which is the functional currency of the company and rounded to the nearest £. ## **Incoming resources** All incoming resources are included on the Statement of Financial Activities when the charity is legally entitled to the income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy. Donations are recognised where there is entitlement, certainty of receipt and the amounts can be measured with sufficient reliability. ## **Resources expended** Liabilities are recognised as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to the expenditure. All expenditures is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Charitable expenditure comprises those costs incurred by the charity in the delivery of its activities and services for its beneficiaries. It includes both costs that can be allocated directly to such activities and those costs of an indirect nature necessary to support them. ## **Governance costs** Governance costs include costs of the preparation and examination of the statutory accounts, the costs of trustee meetings and the cost of any legal advice to trustees on governance or constitutional matters. ## **Support costs** Support costs include central functions and have been allocated to activity cost categories on a basis consistent the use of resources, for example, allocating property costs by floor area, or per capita, staff costs by the time spent and other costs by their usage.
