Annual Report (including Trustees Report) 2020-21 

The period up to the end of the 20-21 Financial Year has been like no other in living memory. Charities such as ours have had to largely stop work, both in their work with the general public and the members of the charity in all forms. In the case of this Charity that meant the cancellation of boat trips and other events from April 2020 with only a recent return to anything like normality, still with some reticence for resumption amongst some members. The 2020-1 year was a disaster financially, rescued only by the kindness of the Hull and East Riding Charitable Trust who gave us a grant which covered the vast bulk of our outstanding commitments, such as insurance and mooring fees. The Society obviously had reduced expenditure due to not staging or undertaking events, but this also meant we had no fundraising. Overall the grant meant that we achieved a level of neutrality, largely entering the new 2021-2 financial year in the same position as the previous year. Members of the Society had to learn new skills to carry out the objectives of the Society, particularly in contributing to such events as the Heritage Open Days virtually. 

Since March 2021, whilst still following Government guidelines, we have been able to resume some activities. We have undertaken a number of trips on Sun following her trip into the dry dock and considerable cosmetic works, and Syntan is also in a relatively sound condition, although all boats generate a list of outstanding works. The Heritage Open Days in September brought a good number of visitors to the Beckside and to experience boat trips on Mermaid. 

Looking to the future we have a good list of parties wishing to experience trips on the Society Boats, and following further planned works to the vessels over the winter, we hope to be able to undertake a full programme of trips and openings in the coming year, with the strength of part Partnership funding in place for the coming three years.
