contlnues to represent ¥ltsl sanctuary forsome of our cws most marginallsed youn8 people.
Our strength Iles In our dedlcated team led by CEO Heather Pthrson. who approaches her thlrd year
as CEO, and whose leadershlp and sertor expertlse has seen SAYITS reputatlon and Impact 8row. Our
leadershlp team Is ¢ompleted by Nlcola Fearnley-Hlll, who has tsken our youth team from stren￿h to
strength as Charlty Manager, and Ol￿er Harrap. whose unwaverlng work a5 Buslness Mana8er has
enabled the development of ouradmlft team. Ouryouth team has growft to full strer)8th over the past
year, wlth some excellent new team members brln8lnB fresh expertlse. Ouryouth workers and wlder
team, wFthout a doubt, contlnue to dedlcate themselves to provldln8 the hl8hest quallty of support to
our youn8 people and makln8 the rnlsslon of SAYrra reallty. We couldn't do whatwe do without them
and so I want to extend a huge thank you to the team on behalf of myself and the rest of the board.
At the AGM we sjld goodbye to valued trustees: Kaiie Marvln-Doyle, Deborah Murdoch-Eaton and
Wel4hen8 Lln. They are sadly mlssed but I hope they leave knowln8 that SAYIT and the board have
8alned so much from thelr o)Ilecttve knowled8e and expertlse. Our long-standlng Treasurer Wel
stayed on wlth us untll Januaryto oversee a comprehenslve handoverto Ihe capable handscf Gemma
Halllwell; and Debble handed over herresponslbSlltles as Safe8uardln8 Lead, to Lucyjones. Sln¢e then,
we have also h•d the Pleasu￿ th15 year of welcomlng three new trustee5 to the board, brln8ln8
enthuslasm, generoslty of tlme and sklll, and a breadth of knowledge and experlence from the charfty
sector, health and wlder publlc sector. All Trustees- p051 and pr•sent-contlnueto be trulydedl¢ated
to the Charltyls success and as chalr, I truly appredate all they do.
Thls year also marks the first year of our latest contract wSth our lon8-term partner Sheffleld Clty
Councll, whlch has enabled us to expand our support of LGBTQ+ youn8 people through Inltlatlves Ilke
our 8-10$ youth 8roup. Under Fk>na Moorcroft's 8Utdance, our tralnln8 and events offerlngs have
flourlshed, In¢ludln8 CPD accredlted tralnln8 sesslons, alon851de a host of events and podcasts for
LGBT Hlstory month. We also ran our Intersertlons Conference In M4rch, reco8nlsln8 the complexand
varfed experlence5 and challen8es of LGBTQ+ people from dlverse and Intersectlng backgrounds.
These educètlonal events have seen resoundln8 success and enable us to share SAyifs expertlse wlth
a wlder network of Indlvlduals and or8anlsotlonstofurtherenhancethe Ilve5 of young LGBTQ+ people.
The hard work and unwaverfng commltment of our Staff team, management team, the Board of
Trustees, our volunteers, our accountants at Falthstar, our funders and donor5, mean that young
LGBTQ+ people can contlnue to recelve the support they need through our groups• counselllng and
peer support vla Innovatlve and creatlve actlvltles. Although I sald this last year, It contlnue5 to be
clear that SAYrrs work has never been more lrnportant. l am constantly humbled to art as Chalr and
remaln Incredlbly proud of all that our wlder team •chleves. Worklng alon8slde such excellent
colleagues and partners, l am confident the Charity wlll contlnue to grow, In splte of the ¢hallenges

equallslng of the age of consent in 2CKY). the repeal of Section 28 In 21X)3. the Introdu¢tlon (rf the
Ge￿Ier Recognltlon P£t in 21XJ4, the Equallty Act in 2010 and the tntroductlon of statutory LGrn+
Inclu51ve Relatlonshlps and sex ediKatlon IRSE) and health educatlon guidance In 2019. How￿r,

focus on LGBTQ+ educatfon and health provision. We have cotitinued to see increases In antkLGBTQ+
hate crfmes, largety fvdled by h05ts1e media and online hate and misinforn)atK)n, as we are currenlly
seelng the most anti-LG8T& hostlle en¥lronment In the UK in de￿des. Tl4s 15 under5tsndably

taunched our Comets group for youn8 people a8ed &IO In December. Under the new contrac¢ we
have also developed our LGBTQ+ youth steerfn8 group and are provEdlr8 updates to profe5slonals In
the cltythrough ourworklng wlth LGBTQfr Young People forum.
l am proud that our I0￿-s￿ndin8 ex￿ in wkh LGBTQ+ youn8 people has been
recognFsed and we have seen increases thi5 In ourtra1n1￿ and educatlon wls5on to share our
expertlse to Improve 5UPPOrt for LG8TQ+ ￿Ung people wherever they presenL Our second
confererÈce event this year. Intersectk>ns looked at the Impact of belng a mlnorlty wlthln a mlnorlty
and the unlque needs faced by people with Intsr5ecting marglnallsed Identities with a range of
speakers and workshops dlscltsslng the Internectkins of LGBTQ+ arml d15ablllty. falth, dass, age, race,
and famltylparenting.
We have completed our first full year in our new centre at Stsr House and have contlnued to wo
wfth youn8 people to make the space welcom1￿ and accessible. We ore Bratefvl to have receNed

multlple donatlons to our'Queer Book Nook, provldlng a readlng space and lendln8 resource for our
young people. Our Noah Lomax fund h45 contlnued to provlde vltsl counselllng and hard5hlp support
foryoung people atthe polntot need and we have worked wlth ouryoung peopleto pr¢XIu￿ a suicide
preventlon vldeo for professlonals to Increase their understsnding of the mentsl hea￿h needs of
LGBTQ+ youn8 people. We have recelved addltlonal fundlng based on th15 to develop a tralnlng
package alon8slde the vldeo, whlch wlll be dellvered thls comlng ￿ar.
We hav¢ been a¢tl¥ety workln8 wlth partnershlps locally and natloDally to SUPlXIrt LGBTQ+ youn8
people In the current cllmate. W¢ have worked wlth the Supporttve Schools Campat8n around
supportlng trans and noTrblnary youn8 people In educatlon settlngs. Locally we co-¢hJlrthe Sheffleld
LGBTa+ Multwency Network and are artlve members of the Sheffleld Mental Health Professlonals,
Syner8y Mental Health Alllance, Sheffleld Sexual Health NetworK and Voluntary Actk+n Sheffleld.
Natlonally we are members of the LG8T Consortlum and ¢oordlnate wlth members throu8h th1$
network on natlonal Issues. As the extstln8 charlty partner of Ralnbow Blades, Sheffleld Unlted's
LGBTQ+ supporters club, we were proud thls year to also become the offlclal ¢harlty partner of
Ralnbow Owls, Sheffleld Wednesdavs LGBTQ+ supporters club.
W• expert the cllmate for LGBTQ+ young people to contlnue to be challenglng for some tlme, but I
am Inuedlbly proud of our team of dedlcattd, talented staff, trustees, and volunteers for contlnuln8
to respond to these challen8es and provlde the best support and posltlve spaces to empower LGBTQ+
young people to achleve thelr potentlals. Our servlce has never been more ￿ts1 for LGBTQ+ young
people, for whom the value of a supportlve space where they can slmply be themsefves wlthout
ludgem•nt and feel safe cannot be undere$tSmatsd. I hope that one day 5eNlce5 Ilke ours are no

Noah Lomax tragically dled in August 2018 at the age of 15. Noah's famlly, alongslde SAYrr, Set up the
Noah Lomax Fund. This ha5 enabled u5 to offer SAYIT youn8 people access to LGBTQfr affimiatlve
counsellors, wecurrently have a pool of 6 counsellors, 3 of whom also fomlly therapy. The fund allow5
us to contlnue to be able to be responstve and provkle support, whllst youn8 people are often sat on
lengthy waltlng Ils
Those who have accessed the hardship fund have benefftted from dothlng vouchers, clothing foriob
Intervlews, moblle phones and phone C￿dIt, travel costs and 8as arKI electrk top ups. Thls Ilst Is not
