Lions Clubs International is the largest service organisation in the world. and &8 such, Bridlington Lions
Club are a part of it. Ivhilst much of the work we do is cantered around local needs, we also contribute to the
Worldwide disaster appeals sent out by Lions Clubs International, this usually consists of £2000 allocated to
the area of greatest need. W¢ also supwrt other dis&sters when asked.
Our work in the local Community is enabled by a good fund-raising team who supply funds to help local
individuals and groups with their needs. We have a Grants Appeal on our w¢bsit¢ which allows local people
and groups to apply for help. both financially and other help,
For a number of years wc have run a bookshop. bur trade w&sn't going too good and the time we were
havin&y to put in to keep the shop open did not support keeping it open however. we started a new venture by
opening a Craft Imporium. we charge a reni for shelf, or wall space. a percenlage from sales goes to the
Lions club. Whilst supp)rting several local entrepr¢neurs, it offers a meeting place and acts as a service
opportunity. The income is not greai. But it is self-supportin8. We continue with our annual fund raisers
which include a Race the waves on the beach, our Annual Can)iva], which includes car parking and Giant
car boot. We also Have Eater eggs in 35 loc￿ pubs raising around £2000.
We made a few donations during the year SUPFK)rting local causes, some of them were, supplying funds for
winter feed for Riding for the disabled. We hel￿d to rdise funds for a Hospicc which was match fundcd by
Lii)ns Club5 International, this raised £20,000, which was malch fimdcd to £40.000. We held a Dementia
Awaren¢ss Day in thc local shoppin8 centre, which includ¢d promoting sighl checks. Wc support many
local youth organisations, including schoo15 and colleges.
Whilst encouraging new members, like many other service organisations. the world is changing, volvnteeTS
are hard to Come by. however we have a dedicatcd group of members who work hard to continue serving the
public and hopefully bring some happiness to many.
