## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2020**

The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2020. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

## **Our Story**

We are Team Unlimbited, a UK charity setup by Stephen Davies and Drew Murray that designs and manufactures 3D assistive devices for people without a forearm, all for free.

We are completely dependent on donations to continue to evolve our designs, build our community of manufacturers and makers, and to build the actual arms for recipients too! All of our designs are open source for non-commercial use for anyone around the world to use.

If you would like to donate or discover more about our story and the amazing people we help, visit https://bit.ly/2SVcUAy, or visit our website or Facebook pages.

Printing a 3D arm can take quite a while, as can assembling and tweaking it! The trustees all have jobs so, currently, the work of the charity is done on a part-time basis. We hope to change that and potentially bring an employee into the charity to expand how many arms we can make and the number of people we can help !

## **Empowering and inspiring**

We hope to be empowering and inspiring people with limb difference through the design and building of innovative 3D printed arm devices.

Team Unlimbited strives to be a catalyst for change in the complex world of upper limb devices. By giving the world a helping had, we can help improve the confidence and courage of children and adults with limb difference …and ultimately, work towards removing the long-standing stigma around discussing disability.

## **Thank you!**

A really big thank you to everyone who has donated money - not only since the charity has been formalised but also in the period when Drew and Stephen were just starting on this journey.

Thank you! Your support is appreciated and welcomed. ...and if you want to give please follow this link : https://bit.ly/2SVcUAy

Thank you also to all the lovely people who fundraised for us! ...and all the people who contributed to their fundraising efforts.

## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2020**

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Governing Document**

The charity was founded by adopting a constitution dated 7 March 2018.

## **Organisation**

The names of the Trustees who served during the year are set out on the information page. Trustees meetings are held on a regular basis, with ad hoc meeting being held as and when necessary. Day to day running of the organisation is handled by Mr D Murray and Mr S Davies.

## **Risk Management**

The trustees carry out an annual review of the risks which the charity may face, have established systems and procedures to mitigate any risks identified and minimise any potential impact should any identified risks materialise.

## **Objects**

The objects of the charity are:

The relief of those in need because of upper limb difference, in the UK and elsewhere in the world, for the public benefit, by (i) the design and production of 3D printed assistive devices and (ii) the provision of support, education and practical advice in their use.

## **Activities for the public benefit**

The Trustees have due regard for the guidance on public benefit and achieve these aims by designing, building and gifting 3D printed hands and arms in the UK. Giving advice support and advice in the UK and worldwide and by sharing all our designs online, open source completely free.

The Trustees have referred to guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing aims and objectives and in planning future activities. In particular, the Trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aim and objectives they have set.

## **Achievements and performance**

During 2020 we were impacted by the Coronavirus Pandemic which limited our time; like many others we had to assume the role of home teachers and also adjust to working from home.

We continued to build devices for recipients in the UK and support people all over the world with questions, advice and generating the digital components to build their own devices.

We were awarded the Alex Moulton award for innovation and inspirational design; a prestigious award from the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED). This award has previously been won by people such as Jonathan Ive from Apple

## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2020**

## **What have we done this Year? - Notable highlights**

In 2020 we had over 60,000 downloads of our current arm design from people all over the world including the UK. We have custom built and gifted arms to 8 recipients in the UK over this year, these included customised designs ranging from Minecraft, Iron Man and Rainbow theme.

Version 3 of the Arm which was scheduled to launch in 2020 has been delayed however a significant re-evaluation of the arm has led to some noted improvements that will simplify the build process for everyone; we are now targeting an end of 2021 release and testing is currently ongoing to maximise the functionality and simplify the build process of the design.

Another development to coincide with V3 of the arm is the development of an online solution for hosting our open-source design, during this year it was noted that several times that Thingiverse; the 3rd party site we currently host our arm design on was either unavailable or not working correctly. We have been working with a software company develop our own solution to provide a platform on which our design will be available

Page 4

**TEAM UNLIMBITED**

## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2020**

This new platform for hosting our arm will launch with the V3 of our device and will be free for anyone around the world to use, providing a quick and easy interface for people to obtain the correctly sized files for them to build a device.

We have noticed that as 3D printers continue to become more accessible and more affordable that more and more people are building their own devices and the number of requests to build for people vs request for advice to self-build is changing. We intend to support this change in requests and support people who wish to build their own device by focusing on enhancing the design and the instructions to build a device.

During the UK lockdown periods caused by the Coronavirus Pandemic, we used our 3D printing resources to produce facemasks, ear savers and anti-fog nose clips to help keep frontline workers and key workers safe.

For the Coronavirus pandemic Team UnLimibited produced for hospital staff, care home staff and other key workers.

As the charity's trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). ## **Independent examiner's statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
