Section C Objectives and activities
The object of The Visual Snow Foundation ( "Charity" ) is to promote and protect good health for the public benefit, in particular but not exclusively, by:
Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document
a) raising public awareness of Visual Snow Syndrome ( "VS" ) through the provision of an informative publicly accessible website including support for sufferers; and
b) funding research into VS, the useful results of which will be disseminated for the public benefit. In furtherance of limb (a) of the Charity’s objective, the Charity has raised awareness of VS, and supported sufferers of VS, through the provision of its website, www.visualsnowsyndrome.com ( "Website" ).
In furtherance of limb (b) of the Charity’s objective, the Charity has raised funds for research into VS, principally by undertaking the following activities:
- continuing receiving donations from the PayPal Giving Fund, which is PayPal’s platform for raising new funds for good causes without charging donors or charities for its services; and
Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)
- continuing the Charity's partnership with the Amazon Smile programme, pursuant to which an Amazon customer can elect (at no extra cost) that Amazon donates 0.5% of their order price to the Charity - please note that Amazon has since discontinued this programme and the Charity Trustees do not anticipate receiving donations under this programme in future reporting periods.
Note that in previous reporting periods the Charity has granted funds to the Visual Snow Global Research Fund, which is administered and distributed by the Visual Snow Initiative – an American public charity under the fiscal sponsorship of the Edwards Charles Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organisation – to key VS research teams across the world as and when it is needed (“ Global Fund ”). The Charity Trustees determined that, due to the amount of funds raised during the reporting period, it would not make such a grant during this reporting period. However, the Charity Trustees do, subject to the Charity receiving a reasonable amount of future donations, intend for the Charity to grant funds the Global Fund in the next reporting period.
Pursuant to section 17(5) of the Charities Act and the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008, the Charity Trustees have had regard to the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity Commission when exercising any powers of duties to which the guidance was relevant.
