Chairman’s Report August 2023 to July 2024 

The choir year commenced with a fresh air of optimism after a concerning series of events at the end of the previous year. This included changes in the Choir’s leadership, a couple of unsuccessful attempts to replace the previous Choir Director and an EGM in April 2023 at which options regarding the Choir’s ongoing viability or otherwise were discussed. 

A few key committee and other members worked hard in the ensuing months to promote the choir with a resolve to continue with its operation. Flyers were posted in the local area on general notice boards, in local businesses and use was made of Social Media to advertise the Choir to the immediate local and wider adjacent communities. 

As a result, a series of 6 weekly singing workshops were held commencing in September 2023, in a new venue of Culcheth Village Library, for 30 mins preceding the Choir’s practice session with the express intention of recruiting new members. This reinforced and energised the Choir and led to a new programme being developed for the upcoming autumn, winter and spring seasons supported by a registration to the Making Music platform. 

The following seasons progressed well and saw the Choir perform at a series of events in church, public, local community and business locations which were well received and enhanced the Choir’s reputation locally. 

The year ended with the Choir in a much better place, with renewed confidence and a new and expanded committee under the musical direction of its long term accompanist who stepped up to lead the choir and it’s musical programmes.
