The trustees have pleasure in presenting their Annual Report together with the Receipts and Payments Account, and the Statement of Assets and Liabilities of the charity for the year ended 31 January 2021. The accounts have been prepared on the receipts and payments basis and comply with the charity's governing document and the Charities Act 2011.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

The charity is constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (Foundation model) (CIO) and was registered with the Charity Commission on 23 February 2018.

The constitution allows for a maximum of twelve trustees. At the financial year end there were six trustees in post. Trustee posts are filled either at the AGM or occasionally, as required when the needs occur. The Trustees will invite new members to fill skills and knowledge gaps in accordance with the Constitution.

The administration of the charity is carried out by Dee Furman with assistance from volunteers and the trustees as required.

We are fortunate to have trustees with management, education, administration and safeguarding expertise, but we continue to take outside legal, accounting and human resource advice when needed.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Aceactive Ministry is a Christian educational charity whose aims are: -

The trustees believe they have complied with the duty in Section 17 of the 2011 Charities Act to have due regard to guidance published by the Charity Commission in respect of public benefit.

Volunteers play a significant role in delivering the objectives and activities of the charity. These have assisted on missions as described below. In addition, members volunteer to organise and assist at many of the activities listed below.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

We are all aware that the past twelve months have been the most unusual in our lifetime. The ministry of Ace Active has had to adapt to meet changing circumstances. Live venues have been the exception, but Zoom has provided a new medium to allow the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be shared by Ace Active Ministry. We know that the message that has been delivered has challenged many people’s lives. Many people have engaged, and lives will have been transformed through the message of the Gospel. The use of new technology has been developed that because of the pandemic and this has allowed the message not to be stilled. Also, there are some supporters who have been able to join events that travel might otherwise have prohibited. Our God has not been caught by surprise in all of this!

Not everything has been virtual there have been the opportunities to share the gospel with children at the Joseph’s Trust and at other places. Warren has been innovative in providing free pizzas that have opened up opportunities for real evangelism, most recently with Churches together in Dewsbury through Neil Obbard.

There have also been a number of opportunities on television and radio where the challenging message of changed lives has been demonstrated as Warren has been able to unfold the gladiator story and how his own life has been changed because of his love for Jesus. This story continues to encourage and challenge many people today.

We praise God for the faithfulness of those who pray for this ministry and for those who regularly access Prayer Gladiators. We are privileged to enjoy this support and are reminded, continuously, that unless the Lord builds the house the house will not succeed. We are blessed through the financial support that this ministry has enjoyed and continues to enjoy. I praise God too for the faithful support of the Trustees who are helping to support and guide the Furman’s into unchartered waters that lie ahead. I thank them for their own personal faith journeys that have brought them thus far and have been encouragement to us all.

We are looking ahead to the end of lockdown and for live missions to begin to start again. We praise God for opening the doors to the Peter stream at St Miletus College and for the opportunities and networks that this will generate. We continue to praise the Lord, our Lord, for his encouragement and provision in the past and his certain promises for the future. We pray for all of the Furman family, that God will guide and bless them in every aspect of their lives as they seek to follow and serve him.

Support

Warren has been mightily blessed through the support of many Christian individuals and organisations who have helped him to move forward in his own Christian faith in an amazing way. We are grateful to the mentoring that has been provided by the Rev Roger Simpson and to others who have become involved in this ministry one way and another. We are also grateful for the active and growing support of Holy Trinity Brompton.

Prayer and prayer warriors

Personal daily prayer and regular prayer meetings, now held online, are the key to the growth and achievements of this ministry. We are aware of a great many people who are praying regularly for Warren, his ministry and his family. Aceactive has also been blessed through the growth of Prayer Gladiators, where many people share their testimonies and words of encouragement as God speaks to them about this ministry.

Focus

This is a truly amazing ministry of which all the trustees are to be part of. The trustees are helping to ensure that the focus of the ministry remains clear and stays on track into the future of bringing Jesus to the nation. We continue to give glory, praise and honour to our God.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

We are grateful for the regular support of a small but committed group of donors who, together with ad-hoc donations from mission partners, have more than met the financial needs of the charity. Regular donations during the year ranged from £10 per month to £4,400 per month.

Total receipts for the year amounted £68,824 and total payments amounted to £44,618 which resulted in an excess of receipts over payments (surplus) of £24,206. The top four categories of payments were:

  1. Payroll costs £30,900 2. Equipment and materials £2,096 3. Motor vehicle and running expenses £2,786 4. Vehicle and equipment purchases £3,650

All money raised for the charity is used to provide the activities and for administrative costs. We do not invest money but keep our reserves in a bank savings account, moving money between the current account and the savings account to maximise return on our funds, while ensuring the smooth running of the charity.

POLICY ON RESERVES

The charity’s main item of regular committed expenditure is the salary of its sole employee. Average monthly expenditure, including exceptional items, over the period of this report was £3,718.

Maintaining reserves to cover three months of normal expenditure is deemed appropriate and during the period, we have exceeded this level throughout the year.

COVID-19 has changed the way the ministry operates with a move to online events during lockdowns and face to face events only when possible. Our regular funders have continued to give generously throughout the period. We have however seen a fall in donations normally received at events, but this has been broadly matched by a reduction in our operating costs.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

The ministry has an exciting future, and we can see new developments emerging. The growing relationship with Holy Trinity Brompton has led to Warren and Dee studying on the Peter stream at St. Miletus college while also being engaged in the life of the church on Sundays. We are grateful for the training and support being so generously provided by Holy Trinity Brompton.

Face-to-face events are again becoming more common, and we look forward to these opportunities continuing to grow.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF ACEACTIVE MINISTRY

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Aceactive Ministry (“the charity”) for the year ended 31 January 2021.

This report is made solely to the charity’s trustees, as a body, in accordance with section 154 of the Charities Act 2011. My independent examiner’s work has been undertaken so that I might state to the charity’s trustees those matters I am required to state to them in an independent examiner’s report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the charity’s trustees as a body for my independent examiner’s work, for this report, or for the opinions I have formed.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

The charity held £800 of restricted funds at the year end from Heron Trust for publication costs. This is to be spent in the forthcoming year.
