## _**FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 JANUARY 2021**_
The trustees present their report and financial statements for the year ended 31 January 2021.
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in note 1 to the financial statements and comply with the charity's [governing document], the Charities Act 2011 and "Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)".
## **Objectives and activities**
Giddo’s Gift is a small charity for teenagers and young adults suffering with Cancer. Age range 13-24years at diagnosis.
Our aim is to bring a smile to their faces as they battle horrendous treatment regimes. The Charity was set up as a legacy in memory of Jordan Giddins whose smile would light up a room. Jordan always loved to give gifts and his nickname was Giddo so Giddo’s Gift is a fitting legacy to the bravest, kindest young person you could ever meet.
## **Our Aims**
- Provide gifts, wishes or financial grants. Laptops, Phones, Games Consoles to keep them in touch with friends
- Provide a treat/ gift for the young person that perhaps the family, due to the circumstances can no longer afford.
- Help families make special memories.
- Spread awareness of Childhood Cancer, Sarcoma and HLH
We offer bereavement grants to families in the devastating event of a young person’s death to aid with funeral expenses. We also provide memory boxes, memory books and support to bereaved families.
We aim to draw on experience and help young people and their families’ at the most difficult time in their lives.
We receive all our applications from Social Workers or Support workers. They discuss with the young person what they would like such as a gift, grant or wish and the social worker completes our application form alongside the young person. Once we receive an application our trustees discuss each one on an individual basis, and then decide if all criteria is met and whether the grant is to be awarded. It is discussed with all trustees, taking into consideration our financial resources, how much can be awarded to individuals and how much is to be gifted to the two charities to aid research.
The Charity aims to provide yearly financial grants to Sarcoma U.K Research & Bone Cancer Research Trust and Histiocytosis U.K. These grants will go towards research projects looking directly at advancing treatments for future patients. Both these diseases are underfunded, treatment regimes are decades old. Jordan was diagnosed with both diseases therefore we chose these to support.
## **Sarcoma U.K Research & Bone Cancer Research Trust**
Both Charities fund pioneering research into all forms of primary bone cancer and Sarcomas. They offer support and information for patients of all ages whilst raising national and international awareness of the disease.
## **Histiocytosis U.K/Research Trust**
**Histiocystosis** is too rare a disease to have generated substantial research in Medical circles. Histiocystosis U.K is dedicated to promoting and funding scientific research into uncovering not only the causes of all histiocytic diseases but also ensuring early diagnosis, effective treatment and a cure.
The trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the Charity Commission in deciding what activities
the charity should undertake.

## **Our work throughout 2020**
During 2020 Giddo’s Gift made 2 donations to aid research £5,000 to Histio U.K and £5,000 to Bone Cancer Research trust.
£200 was also made for Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia group by selling gold pin badges.
We awarded grants and gifts to individuals totalling £26.286 during the year.
## **We have granted 46 gifts, grants and wishes during 2020.**
## **Some of the grants/gifts/wishes awarded-**
- 20yr old diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer wanted something positive to look forward to following surgery. We paid for gym membership and an online electrical course.
- 20yr old diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma had intensive chemotherapy. We arranged a spa weekend to relax and spend quality time with partner.
- A bedroom make over with bed and bedding for a 19yr old diagnosed with Large B Cell Lymphoma.
- Financial grant for clothes, make up with magnetic eye lashes and money towards a celebratory family meal for a 24yr old young lady diagnosed with breast Cancer.
- A large Goodie box was put together for a 17 yr. old with aggressive tumour on her spin resulting in a spinal cord compression. The goodies included pyjamas, toiletries, perfume, books and vouchers.
- A financial grant to a 21yr old diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour to make precious memories with his family.
- A laptop to keep in touch with friends for a 13yr old boy diagnosed with Osteosarcoma who felt isolated due to spending long periods of time in hospital.
- A weekend break for a 24yr old diagnosed with a brain stem tumour to have a relaxing break with his partner after he finished radiotherapy and before his chemotherapy.
We also granted many Laptops, Phones, Nintendo Switches and IPads for young people undergoing treatment. A sewing machine, goodie box full of treats, vouchers and money for new clothes, driving lessons and art equipment were some of the other applications that were approved during the year.
Unfortunately 2020 saw the highest number of bereavement grants applied for. 8 local families were torn apart by Childhood Cancer. We awarded them all a financial grant to assist with funeral fees. We also offered support and sent personalised memory boxes, books and a candle in memory of their precious child. During 2020 we produced a small leaflet that is sent out to bereaved families showing our compassion. The leaflet has the information for websites, groups and books that Giddo’s Gift Founder / Jordan’s mum Mandy Giddins found helpful in the early days of grief.
Over 30 Christmas Goodie bags were sent out to all those we had helped during the year. The Goodie bags contained pyjamas, a voucher, slipper socks, chocolates and toiletries.
## **Structure, Governance and Management**
Giddos Gift complies with the governing document that is its Constitution which is on the Charity Commission Website and our Website. This sets out our purpose, structure and describes how we operate. At our AGM we form our governance, operational and financial strategies for the coming year.
The Charity is run by our group of trustees. We realise we don’t have sufficient experience on the board with regard to governance issues so we will asking for support in 2021 from the Flintshire Voluntary service.

## **Trustee recruitment and appointment**
There are 6 appointed trustees on the board. Trustee recruitment happens as deemed necessary by the board. Trustee recruitment is open for discussion at any point as we are aware that diversity and using a variety of skills and experiences will increase the charity’s performance.
## **Volunteers**
Giddo’s Gift has many volunteers, mainly family and friends. We have a list of our volunteers who are eager to help during events. It would not be possible to carry out our purpose without their support. We welcome members of the public who are inspired by Jordan’s story and legacy to come and join us and help make a difference to young people with Cancer.
We have received a lot of positive feedback from the public as to how well run and friendly our events are. We pride ourselves on how many family and friends are involved with Jordan’s Charity.
## **Young Ambassadors**
We have the support of 4 young ambassadors who promote the Charity, organise and help with events and support the work of the Trustees.
Kyle Mills. Ieuan Rowe. Sophie Collings. Ellie Von Borsel.
Unfortunately Ieuan Rowe has stepped down as a young ambassador due to work commitments.
Going forward into 2021 we have recruited 4 more young ambassadors to help raise awareness of the charity, organise events and work alongside the trustees.

## **Achievements and performance Fundraising Activities**
Covid 19 put a stop to all fundraising events for 2020; going into 2021 it is unsure whether we can plan any events due to the local and national lockdowns. Hopefully when restrictions are lifted we can organise our regular events such as afternoon tea, Rock for Giddo, Craft Fayre, Giddo’s football tournament, Gin Night and the events we had planned for 2020 such as a Race Night. We are also thinking of new fundraisers.
We started 2020 by opening a Charity shop in Flint. We were lucky that the shop was kindly donated for us to use for 10 days. Everything we sold in the shop was donated and we raised over £3,000. This was before Covid 19 hit us so we were so lucky to raise such an amazing amount to help us through the year.
During 2020 online events were very popular. Rock for Giddo took place online with many tuning in to listen and donating. A weekly online raffle also took place. Many local businesses donated gifts, vouchers and products for the team to raffle. We had fantastic support and each week the raffle numbers sold out. One big raffle took place on Jordan’s birthday.
A very popular event was organised by 2 friends of Jordan “The November Challenge” which saw over 70 people sign up for £5 to the challenge to run, walk or cycle at least 5K during the month. Many challenged themselves to running/walking much more than 5K. We loved seeing how everyone embraced the challenge and a fantastic £3,600 was raised as many gained sponsorship for the event.
A large Christmas raffle also proved popular for a luxury hamper, all items kindly donated.
Our very first Remembrance Tree was put in place, eventually we had 3 trees. Flint Library, Jade Jones Pavilion and Lloyds Pharmacy, Flint all had a remembrance tree. We appealed for knitters to come forward to knit angels. The support we received was amazing with hundreds of angels being made. The trees were very popular, people bought an angel and wrote a message on a wooden heart or star to their loved ones, no longer with them, and placed the messages on a tree. We had fantastic feedback with everyone saying how lovely the trees were. We also raised over £500 for the charity.
Many supporters took on their own challenges, marathons and half marathons were run. Hundreds of miles were walked and even cycled. Flint High school took on a fantastic virtual challenge raising an absolutely amazing £2,612 by doing their own virtual runs, cycles and walks covering a staggering 8700 miles. One day they all did it in fancy dress.
Without support like this a difficult year would have been much worse. We never want to be in a position that we have to refuse a plea for help or support.

**Moneysupermarket** heard about our charity and got in touch to help. They provided us with an amazing £2,000 to help our young people.

**Persimmon** funded our Xmas Goodie bags for the hospitals and young people having treatment. They donated £1,000 towards the bags
We were successful in our bid for a grant from **The National Lottery** £8,200. This has helped immensely to continue awarding gifts and wishes to our young people.£5,000 towards laptops and phones, £2,000 for activities, days out and weekend breaks.£1,000 for hospital meal vouchers and £200 for bereavement books.
**The Williams Family Fund** awarded us £4,000 to help fund our bereavement grants and memory boxes.
We really appreciate **Day Dream Designs** for creating our new webpage, donating their time and skills. This will help improve our profile. Also we are able to sell merchandise on the webpage and promote our fundraisers.
## **Raising Awareness**
**September 2020 saw everyone get involved in raising awareness for Childhood Cancer** . Everywhere certainly Glowed Gold! We sprayed 5 bikes Gold and placed them in places around Flint and 1 by the river in Chester. Each bike was dedicated to a child who lost their life due to Childhood Cancer, the bikes signified “Lost Childhoods” they were certainly a talking point. Team Giddo also once again put gold ribbons on the trees around the town. Over 100 heartfelt messages were written on gold hearts and butterflies’ from parents in memory of their precious child. The messages and photos were displayed outside The Church in Flint and along the suspension bridge in Chester. Yellow roses were put into the River Dee in memory of the children taken far too soon. We also met with bereaved families for them to see their messages as we placed them on the suspension bridge.
Our awareness gained interest from the media with local papers covering the story and our Founder Mandy was interviewed about the Charity and why raising awareness of Childhood Cancer is so important. She appeared on ITV Wales news at 6PM!
Our local Town of Flint lit up Gold. We were supported by Third Avenue Events who are a lighting company. Neil came up with the idea of lighting businesses up Gold for a fee. The whole of Flint embraced this and for 1 night in September pubs, shops, the Church and Town Hall all Glowed Gold. Over £500 was donated. Lots of vital awareness was raised. In 2021 we hope to increase this awareness again.

## **Future Developments** / **Shor** t **Term Goals**
- Continue Fundraising and supporting our fundraisers
- Good communication with our supporters
- Fulfil all applications for a grant, wish or financial help
- Ensure Giddo’s Goodie boxes are always full of goodies
- Ensure all hospitals we cover, (Glan Clwyd, Wrexham, Bangor, Alder Hey and Clatterbridge) have meal vouchers for parents spending long periods of time on the ward with their child.
- Donate towards Childhood Cancer research yearly
- Promote Childhood Cancer Awareness. Support the awareness months of Sept (Go Gold) and October (bone Cancer)
- Creat a higher profile for the charity including an improved social media presence
- Extending the skill mix on the board to enable the charity to grow
## **Longer term Goals**
- To raise sufficient funds to buy and maintain a holiday lodge. For the young people we support and their families to go and make precious memories and for bereaved families to go and relax.
- Build on our funding strategy and secure corporate funding
- Extend provision across Wales and eventually the UK
- Provide significant research grants to make a bigger impact
- Provide training and literature for health professionals to improve knowledge and early diagnosis
- Employ staff to run the charity on a daily basis
## **Financial review**
It is the policy of the charity that unrestricted funds which have not been designated for a specific use should be maintained at a level equivalent to between three and six month’s expenditure. The trustees considers that reserves at this level will ensure that, in the event of a significant drop in funding, they will be able to continue the charity’s current activities while consideration is given to ways in which additional funds may be raised. This level of reserves has been maintained throughout the year.

## **Reserves Policy for 2021**
We held funds in reserve for the following reasons:
Covid 19 – due to restricted fundraising. We have put funds in reserve to cover all costs for 6 months. This will cover grants, gifts, wishes and financial aid so we will not have to refuse any applications. There is enough in reserve to pay rent for 6 months on our small office and storage space.
The board have agreed a 3 year business plan which includes saving a substantial amount each year to purchase a “Giddo’s Gaff” Lodge in 3years time. This will be for young people and their families we support to have a break away. The will be able to make memories and spend time together in between treatments. As a family when Jordan was in treatment we had help from “Nicolas Fund “and used their caravan in Porthmadog many times. We treasure the memories and time spent as a family. We will also offer it to bereaved families. The amount we put into the fund for the lodge will be based on income and outgoings and how much we have in the account at the end of Jan each year.
Giddo’s Gift aims to help every child and family who applies to us for support.
The trustees has assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed, and are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate exposure to the major risks.
## **Importance of Good Communication, Information Sharing and Transparency**
We have Regular Trustees Governance and Strategy meetings, as well as Team Meetings. In 2021 we will invite all our ambassadors to at least 4 meetings as well as the AGM throughout the year. They will also hold their own Ambassador meetings led by Kyle Mills.
All meetings were held in the board room Enterprise house where we have a small office. Due to Covid restrictions they are now on Zoom until restrictions are lifted.
We had hoped during 2020 that we could invite the public to our AGM but due to restriction it was not possible and that has continued into 2021.
All grants, gift and wishes awarded and Fundraisers are highlighted on social media platforms. These live feed onto Giddo’s Gift website.
We have close links with Specialist Nurses and Social Workers in all areas of North West England and North Wales
Our New Website is launching Feb 2021 and is a source of lots of information and has our application form and sponsor form as a download.
A copy of our Annual Report will be available on our website
Room for improvement - There has been some occasions when the general public are not aware of exactly what the charity does. We hope with the launch of the new website this will improve.
## **Confidentiality policy**
In order to respect families’ privacy and confidentiality, we do not publicise
Stories or photos unless this is something the family wish us to do. Based on how Jordan conducted his life and how much he valued his privacy we know that he never wanted anyone to feel sorry for him. We like to inform our fundraisers where the money is being spent so we have included a statement within our application form for the young person to say whether they are happy for us to publicize their gift or wish while keep anonymity.
We try to be as transparent as possible within the boundaries of this ethos. Our aim is to support young people and their families’ with minimal stress to them and with total respect for their circumstances.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of Giddo's Gift (the charity) for the year ended 31 January 2021.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act).
I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act . In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
Your attention is drawn to the fact that the charity has prepared financial statements in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) in preference to the Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice issued on 1 April 2005 which is referred to in the extant regulations but has now been withdrawn.
I understand that this has been done in order for financial statements to provide a true and fair view in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practice effective for reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2015.
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
- 1 accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act; or
- 2 the financial statements do not accord with those records; or
- 3 the financial statements do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the financial statements to be reached.

## **1 Accounting policies**
## **1.1 Accounting convention**
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the charity's [governing document], the Charities Act 2011 and "Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)". The charity is a Public Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
The charity has taken advantage of the provisions in the SORP for charities applying FRS 102 Update Bulletin 1 not to prepare a Statement of Cash Flows.
The financial statements have departed from the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 only to the extent required to provide a true and fair view. This departure has involved following the Statement of Recommended Practice for charities applying FRS 102 rather than the version of the Statement of Recommended Practice which is referred to in the Regulations but which has since been withdrawn.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling , which is the functional currency of the charity. Monetary a mounts in these financial statements are rounded to the nearest £.
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, modified to include the revaluation of freehold properties and to include investment properties and certain financial instruments at fair value. The principal accounting policies adopted are set out below.
## **1.2 Going concern**
At the time of approving the financial statements, the trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus the trustees continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the financial statements.
## **1.3 Charitable funds**
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of their charitable objectives.
Restricted funds are subject to specific conditions by donors as to how they may be used. The purposes and uses of the restricted funds are set out in the notes to the financial statements.
Endowment funds are subject to specific conditions by donors that the capital must be maintained by the charity.
## **1.4 Income**
Income is recognised when the charity is legally entitled to it after any performance conditions have been met, the amounts can be measured reliably, and it is probable that income will be received.
Cash donations are recognised on receipt. Other donations are recognised once the charity has been notified of the donation, unless performance conditions require deferral of the amount. Income tax recoverable in relation to donations received under Gift Aid or deeds of covenant is recognised at the time of the donation.
Legacies are recognised on receipt or otherwise if the charity has been notified of an impending distribution, the amount is known, and receipt is expected. If the amount is not known, the legacy is treated as a contingent asset.

## **1.5 Tangible fixed assets**
Tangible fixed assets are initially measured at cost and subsequently measured at cost or valuation, net of depreciation and any impairment losses.
Depreciation is recognised so as to write off the cost or valuation of assets less their residual values over their useful lives on the following bases:

The gain or loss arising on the disposal of an asset is determined as the difference between the sale proceeds and the carrying value of the asset, and is recognised in net income/(expenditure) for the year.
## **1.6 Impairment of fixed assets**
At each reporting end date, the charity reviews the carrying amounts of its tangible assets to determine whether there is any indication that those assets have suffered an impairment loss. If any such indication exists, the recoverable amount of the asset is estimated in order to determine the extent of the impairment loss (if any ) .
## **1.7 Cash and cash equivalents**
Cash and cash equivalents include cash in hand, deposits held at call with banks, other short-term liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less, and bank overdrafts. Bank overdrafts are shown within borrowings in current liabilities.
## **1.8 Financial instruments**
The charity has elected to apply the provisions of Section 11 ‘Basic Financial Instruments’ and Section 12 ‘Other Financial Instruments Issues’ of FRS 102 to all of its financial instruments.
Financial instruments are recognised in the charity's balance sheet when the charity becomes party to the contractual provisions of the instrument.
Financial assets and liabilities are offset, with the net amounts presented in the financial statements, when there is a legally enforceable right to set off the recognised amounts and there is an intention to settle on a net basis or to realise the asset and settle the liability simultaneously.

Trade creditors are recognised initially at transaction price and subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method.
## _**Derecognition of financial liabilities**_
Financial liabilities are derecognised when the charity’s contractual obligations expire or are discharged or cancelled.
## **2 Critical accounting estimates and judgements**
In the application of the charity’s accounting policies, the trustees are required to make judgements, estimates and assumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other sources. The estimates and associated assumptions are based on historical experience and other factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates.
The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised where the revision affects only that period, or in the period of the revision and future periods where the revision affects both current and future periods.
