Annual Report for Time Period 1[st] April 2020 – 31[st] March 2021
Financial Statement
Grant Funding Acquired
Thrive Alive secured £4,266 in grant funding between the 1[st] April 2020 and the 31[st] March 2021. The largest of these donations came from Tesco for £1,166. Thrive is always grateful for all of the financial support it receives. We are a small charity however we are pleased that we are frequently recognised as providing important support and this is recognised financially in grant provision. We would like to thank the George Martin Foundation for supporting us again as they provided us with £1,000.
Other Financial Income
During this time period we received £1,430 in donations from members of the public. Many of these smaller donations are received frequently from the same people and we appreciate the ongoing support that is provided.
Current Expenditure
During this time period we had outgoings of £1,647. The main focus of our outgoings are insurance, tax and storage costs. The mobile children’s centre we use requires ongoing maintenance and this is another outgoing that is ongoing for the charity. Thrive recognises that the centre will continue to need ongoing work as it ages and securing funding to complete work or update the centre is a focus for us.
Current Cash Reservoir
Thrives cash reservoir has always been small since we first started and this has never hindered our activity. Separating time to complete grant applications continues to be a priority and
OFFICIAL
more recently we have seen improvements in this area that will be reported on in the next annual return.
Organisational Structure
At the last annual review it was a priority that we increased the number of trustees and I am pleased that over the last year this has taken place. The current list of trustees is detailed below.
Aime Templeman - Trustee and Safeguarding advisor
Matthew Grassam – Education advisor
Lisa Johnson - Trustee
Tim Harvey - Trustee
Heather Rowe - Trustee
Graham Rounding – Trustee and maintenance
Alison Harvey – Administration
Jason Johnson – Resigned as a trustee
Asset Review
Thrive Alive is pleased that the mobile centre is getting used not just for Thrive but also by other local organisations. The move-ability of the centre continues to be an issue. It would make a significant difference to be able to reverse the centre by having a motor mover fitted but the recent cost of this is £2,500 so this remains a future aim.
We have continued to develop the range of activities that we offer within the centre and these are well received. They give us variety and allows us to support the varied needs of the children in our area.
Core Offer
Thrive Alive’s core offer has always centred around the 3 developed programs of Education on the Edge, Pathways through Play and the People’s Promise. Since Thrive started it is Education on the Edge that is the program that is in demand. At the last annual review we aimed to develop our bespoke offer and this has also been in demand, especially in response to the pandemic and the wide spread anxiety that we now see in children.
OFFICIAL
However, after having several meetings with other local organisations within education and statutory services we are now aware that we are going to have to develop the bespoke offer Thrive Alive is always looking for new innovative ideas, we are pleased with the progress we have made but have a continual need to develop.
Partnerships
Thrive Alive has established several partnerships in the local area and these relationships are developing in line with the growth of Thrive. We have listed the current partners that we are linked to below. Thrive Alive is always looking to establish more community links and space at the Annual General Meeting will also be allocated for any development in this area. In addition to these partnerships we have established strong relations with the local council who have provided us with licences for Oliver’s Mount in Scarborough, Glen Gardens and Country Park in Filey as areas to provide a service from. We are thankful for their support.
Raincliffe Woods Community Enterprise – The Community Enterprise have agreed for us to have access to the woodland they manage to run our activities within them.
Stronger Communities – Stronger continue to be a Stakeholder and provides advice and guidance.
ELAC (Education for Looked After Children): Are particularly interested in the delivery of Education on the Edge and how this could compliment their work.
Schools – Thrive has worked hard to inform local schools of the support that we are able to offer. We are pleased that during this time period we have been used by both primary and secondary school along the length of the Yorkshire Coast.
Impact of Covid 19
The pandemic has meant that schools have been unsure how to allocate support and funding as their resources have become more stretched than they were before. We have found that children who were previously settled are now absent from school and have high levels of anxiety and this has become an important part of the support that we offer.
At the beginning of the pandemic we quickly managed to make the centre Covid safe and have ensured that this has remained in place throughout. Whilst the restrictions are now easing we continue to have Covid safeguards in place.

Progression Analysis
As an organisation I feel we should be pleased with the progress that has been made over the last year. At times we all wish things would progress quicker, however our slow growth does reflect a solidity to our actions.
Since Thrive Alive went live we have never been without children to work with and as the awareness of our support grows so does the range of children and organisations we work with.
We have developed effectively the range of activities that we are able to offer and this positive development is reflected in the experience the children have with Thrive.
Whilst we are pleased with the progress we have made we need to stay focused as we move forward. We need to continue to strive to secure future funding to increase the amount of subsidised support we are able to offer.
