donations from attendees at Champion Bowland associated events

Supporting destination website set up with Champion Bowland support via
a National Heritage Lottery Fund grant -www.discoverbowland.uk

promotes the Forest of Bowland. Discover Bowland membership fees are
invested back into the website that benefits the Forest of Bowland area,
and meets the charity’s criteria
Grant giving to local groups in the Forest of Bowland AONB for
environment/conservation/heritage.
Supports and helps promote the Lord Bowland Annual Lecture;
presents Champion Bowland plaques to recipients of Small Grants in
order to raise awareness and community involvement.
Badge boxes at businesses, such as tourism venues and
accommodation providers. The pin badges are currently Forest of
Bowland locator badges.|

£1,500 in small grants (up to £750) awarded between August 2023 and **Summary of the main** June 2024 **achievements of the charity during the year** 2023-24 was a slow year as the general economy squeezed disposable incomes. Grant applications also slow and have to be managed in conjuction with visitor giving. Support of Lord of Bowland annual lecture Increasing engagements with other voluntary in the Forest of Bowland area, to raise the profile of Champion Bowland Discover Bowland website continues to develop successfully as a visitor destination site. Badge boxes, promoting visitor giving, providing some income. Providing running costs for the Sabden Tramper all terrain accessible vehicle (funded originally by the Pendle Hill Landscape Project & Heritage Fund. Now managed by the Forest of Bowland AONB team, and organised by a small group of volunteers in Sabden). Hirers of the freeto-use Tramper may make ‘thank you’ donations to Champion Bowland. These donations are ring-fenced for running costs such as electricity and servicing of the tramper.

- Outdoor Learning Transport Fund helps towards travel costs for school children and young people’s community groups visiting the Forest of Bowland AONB

- Pendle Hill Legacy Fund, set up to provide continuity after the end of the four year, National Lottery Heritage Fund supported Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership scheme, in October 2022

I report on the accounts for the year
1st August 2023 – 31st July 2024
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
- to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention
## **Basis of independent examiner's report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act
have not been met; or
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
