Financial revlew
. reseNes and risk
The Trustees present their accounts for the period erKled 30th June 2023.
Income for the period was £131020 as shown in the Statement of Financial
Artivlties.
Thls is 15% up on the prevlous year. Fundrdising has largely returned to pre-
pandemic. We have continued with our objectives to seTve our community, and
wider world, where we assist the Lions Intemational Foundation. Grants and
Donations are listed in Accounts under Note.8. Club projerts continued where
possible thanks to Eenerous donation5 from the public. local government, and
others. All funds raised are rea(ty for donation. thus no Tisk is involved. and no
reserves required other than a working balance to fund the current events and
projects. It is not thought petessary to make any investments.
The aub maintains financlal assets in Current Bank accounts with its maln Bank
being HSBC. The Club has no long-tem commitments, Other than a twenty-flve year
lease wlth Fleet Town Council. as all available funds are for immediate donation or
use in the case of other assets. The Trustees do not consider a long-term
Investment policy as currently required. Olher Current Assets are maintained
malnly for use within the Lions Communlty Sto￿. being trwo commercial vehicles
and storage units. Other a55ets include the Club's Father Christmas Slelgh and
sound equipment and a Portakabin that is a workshop and store for the Recycle IT
Projert.
It Is the policy of the Club to malntsin restricted funds as well 35 unrestrlrted fun(ts
to the extent that donations and some Club fund5 have been donated or allocated
for specific objettives of the Club. The adequacy of the reseryes policy is reviewed
annually. The Club also maintalns its own funding for admlnlstrative costs and
therefore maintains these wlthln a restrlcted fund.
The Trustees Iwe considered the major rlsks to which the Club Is exposed to satisfy
themselves that systems are In place to mitigate those rlsks.
COMMUNITY SERVICE AcnvmES
Much has been achieved th15 year with aub members being active wlthin the
community.
We work with the communlty for the community. Our Restrlcted Funds Irin8fencedl
projects sustain this work with Llon5 Community Store as our long-term major project,
supported by the other Clubs within our area, known collertively as the Zone. This
project colletts. sorts, and redistrfbutes household items for those who need help In
establlshing a home. Major financial a55istsnce is also given by Farnham Lions as thelr
area is also serviced by the Store.

Another main project is that of providing subsidised PSA blood tests to help men to
detert the possible start of prostste cancer. the Pr05tate Screenlng Fund. We have
continued with a DIY system. set up so men can carry out their own test at home.
Annually. we offer a venue to take sample5 and have them anatyzed. We are proud to
say we have been successful in detecting the start of canw in many men.
We have set up a fund to help with paying Utlllty bllls for those that are unable to meet
thi5 ever increaslng cosL the Lltllltles ProhcL This is funded by donations from the
ommunity and distributed through local charities such as Citizens Aifvice, Fleet
Phoenix, and the Hart Foodbank.
A road sign project. with our volunteers and a stock of road 5i8ns we assist the
community with road closures. Known as the Heet Uons Temporary Trnffic
Mawgement Team they asslst at Fleet Camival, Remembrance Surxlay, and Fleet
Christma5 Festival in November. We also hire out to responsible organlsatlons in the
area, for a small donation.
The Uons Recycle rr. coordinated by Fleet FLOGS Branch helped by Zone Llon Clubs. has
8one from strength to Stren8th. Thls has been very successful and has proved again to
be vital to current nee
Our Trees for the Queerfs Gr•on Canopy projert involved local Junior Schools in ralsln8
funds and participating in the pSantlD8 in school grounds and local parks. Due to kind
donatlons by parents and lotal 84)vernment we have been left wlth a balance that Is
beln8 channeled into the local area for more tree plantlng.
Spectscles have contlnued to be collerted and dispatched to Chlchester Lions for sorting
and onward transportation to other countries for use by their optlcians, an initlative
known as Spektrek. Another Lions Clubs instiative of Mes5age4N-Bottle has also kept
clinics and people supplied. Th55 is a small contalner that houses a record of an
individual'5 medicines and is kept in a marked place 50 paramedics can access it if
necessary.
Llons Clubs Platlonalty MD105 Brltlsh tsles & Llons aybs Internattonal Foundatlon
Internationally we have donated to Lions Clubs Internatlonal Foundation to help with
their work with Disaster Relief and Eye Camps. t>onations have been made by Fleet Lions
and their Aldershot Branch. Our national organizat￿n makes (lonatlons to Blood
Research. known as LIBRA.

Uons Communlty StOTe
The Store remalns the major project of Lions aubs. Last year we reported that there had
been a recruitment drive. This year not only did one of the vans have to be replaced but
two of our Portakabins, used for household 8oods and clothe5. had to be replaced
urgently as they had becorne unsafe and unusable. This was to cost between £3000 and
£51XJO each. The Zone Clubs have replaced one of the Cabins and Farnham Lions have
donated £50LX) for the purchase of another. This has been purchased in our followin8
financial year. It cost over £15(K)O to be able to carry out this vltal community work, in
the year. We undertake to lead on the proJecL with help and financial support from
other Zone Lion Clubs and Farnham Lions. The work continues and we were again able
to distribute the Christmas Hampers In December 2022 as usual. Our services are being
called on with hardship bein8 experienced more and more. The support we receive is
tremendous.
We particularly want to celebrate our volunteers, on this projert. Some Lions work at
the Store. partlcularly one who manages the projert 20 hours ? week with extra hours
admin at home. We regularly have ten non-Llon volunteers that work SOMÈ 330hrs
month. on average. Thank you to all of you.
The Trustees would like to thank all our Volunteers. Lions Clubs. Local Government
support and of course our wonderful communlty.
