Mrs Fauza Namakula ## **Bankers: TSB BANK** **Account Number: 80078768** **Sort code: 772201** 1 | Page ## **Governing Documents:** Uganda Muslim Community (UMC) Manchester Twale is constituted as a CIO registered with the charity commission since 15 February 2018 under charity number 1177180. ## **Our Objectives:** To further or benefit the residents of Manchester and the neighbourhood, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the residents and the local authorities and other organizations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare, for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the residents. The promotion of religious harmony for the benefit of the public by: (a) educating the public in different religious beliefs, including an awareness of their distinctive features and their common ground to promote good relations between persons of different faiths; and (b) Promoting knowledge and mutual understanding and respect of the beliefs and practices of different religious faiths.’ To advance Islam, in particular but not exclusively by the provision of a Mosque in Manchester ## **Motive for the Trust:** To build a strong united society with emphasis on young people to make informed choices as life is full of challenges, we all face growing up in this 2 | Page diversity and multicultural society. This Trust has been set to work with other organisations and professional bodies to link and connect those in need at varying levels. ## **Organisation Structure:** The Charity Trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the organisation. The Trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits ## **On 25[th] November 2023, during the AGM, the following members we elected as part of the current management committee and volunteers inclusive of Trustees as follows:** Chairman/Trustee: Mr Jaffer Kasule Gava Vice-Chairman: Mr Hussein Kiweewa Secretary: Miss Halima Nakachwa. Treasurer/ Trustee: Mr. Haarith Bwanika Trustee: Mrs Fauza Namakula Asist. Treasurer: Mr. Abdukarim Kabanda Mzei Event’s organiser: Miss Sarah Kizito Mobiliser: Mr Yahaya Kakembo Secretary for youth affairs: Muhammad Ntambiye Secretary for Family affairs: Mrs Farida Zalwango. Volunteers: - Mr Ibrahim Ntambiye - Mrs Sarah Kiweewa - Mrs Rehema Kawooya - Mr Moses Kasujja - Mr Ibrahim Ntambiye - Mr Mustapha Kawooya - Mr Swaibu Semakula - Mr Muhammad Katerega. 3 | Page The Committee as a body meets regularly and it’s responsible for all the decisions taken in relation to running the organisation and activities provided by the Charity. ## **Recruitment:** Through our annual General Meetings, all members are informed of requirements for positions or help needed to run the organisation. We ask anyone willing to volunteer in certain areas to come forward and help the organisation. The Trustees take responsibility for screening and scrutinising anyone to serve and only those who pass through this process are selected. For all long-term positions, the DBS is a must through a registered Umbrella body on the other hand the short-term volunteers normally get references from our members and the general public in writing or via emails. ## **Achievements for the Organisation:** In our seventh anniversary as a Charity the following a lot has been achieved in a short time but for this year the following have stood out. **Community cohesion:** The social cohesion with in the community has improved a lot and more people are turning up for events and charity programmes however, more work need to be done to reach out to other members who are missing out. We would like to appreciate every who has reached out or helped in building the community together across all spheres. 4 | Page ## **Ramathan community weekly Darasa’s or meetings:** During this period, we increase our supplications and usually meet every week to learn more about our religion and also interact socially as a community every Saturday. The aim of these sessions is to encourage the Muslims members in our community to keep remembering their beliefs and learn more about the deen and break the fast together as one community. A special thank you to all our members who continue to contribute generously to ensure all these activities continue to be sustained. May the Almighty reward you in abundancy. ## **UMC UK 2024 sports day:** This was hosted by the Manchester Twale on 27[th] July 2024 at Dixons Brooklands Academy, Moor Road, M23 9BP. The purpose was to encourage our members to stay fit, active and healthy through engaging in different sports activities among all Ugandan Muslims residing in UK. It attracted over 1200 members engaging in different sports. At this even the Manchester Liverpool Twale emerged as overall winners across different field activities including: football, netball and athletics. The children’s activities were also well attended like the bouncing castle games, face painting, sack racing, athletics and other field events. ## **Eid Celebrations (Community get together parties):** Eid Ceremonies continue to play a big role in bringing our community together. It is a day when most community members meet and interact in large numbers. For the 2024 we held Eid al-Fitr in Manchester with Liverpool community as we continue to keep our closer ties across the North west cities of Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool. Through these celebrations our members especially the children get opportunities experience a different perspective of Islam as a 5 | Page guide to mankind across different scenarios. Eid celebrations are days of feasting, exchanging gifts and sharing and embracing each other as Muslims. ## **AGM** This was held on 2-11-2024 from 5.00pm to 8.00pm in the main hall at the British Muslim Heritage Centre, college road, Whalley Range, M16 8BP. During the AGM, the last year’s annual and financial reports were approved and the committee was set to serve its second of the three-year term in office with elections scheduled for December 2026 as determined by the UMC Manchester Electro Committee. This was held at Derby Road (UMC UK Headquarters) East London Mosque. The committee takes this opportunity to thank all members who helped in raising the £300 participation fee. Special shout out also to our participants: Fahad Kiggundu and Aqeel Gava who represented our Twale. ## **Future Prospects:** Our ultimate aim is to continue keeping the community together and getting our normal activities running. We constantly update our members using the WhatsApp forums and through our website and below are some of the issues we intend to improve or carry forward. ## **Policies and Procedures:** As a charity we need to continue keeping policies in place in order to comply with standards and requirements as stipulated by the charity commission. Emphasis has been put more towards GDPR AND SAFEGUARDING POLICIES thus members must sign the consent part of the GDPR policy for us to use their personal data including pictures and this will only be used for those purposes for which they are intended for. 7 | Page ## **Social media platforms:** As a charity, we are compelled to follow all guidelines by the charity commission especially with regard to safeguarding. Members are encouraged to share information with due diligence with regard to those who may be affected by certain posts or comments. We call upon our members to bear this in mind when using charity forums. ## **Rising funds:** We urge all members to donate generously towards the charity by setting up standing orders and donating to the organisation. Members and well-wishers should do this willingly and there is no membership fee to access all charity activities. ## **Fostering Togetherness and Community Growth-UMC Manchester and Liverpool Twale.** ## **Death Preparation within the community;** The community continues to place great importance on the death preparation part of our Islamic and communal responsibility. Members are being encouraged to take an active role in the two bereavement groups within the community i.e. Buganda and UMC UK Bereavement Funds. These groups ensure that, when a member passes away, the community comes together promptly to support the family, offer guidance, and help with all burial arrangements. ## **Togetherness and community bonding;** Our community continues to value togetherness and unity as Ugandans and Muslims living in Manchester and Liverpool Members are encouraged to check on one another, offer support, and remain connected beyond formal gatherings. We continue to promote participation in outing, darasa’s, Eid celebrations, and other events as ways to strengthen our bonds. The drive to bring everyone closer 8 | Page as one community remains a key focus, ensuring that every member feels recognised, valued, and included in our shared journey of faith and friendship. ## **Supporting Community Programs** To keep our activities running effectively, members are being encouraged to support community programmes through monthly subscriptions and one-off contributions. It is these funds that directly support our Darus sessions, trips, picnics and other events that help us learn, bond, and grow together. Every contribution, no matter the size, plays a vital role in sustaining our initiatives and ensuring that the community remains active, inclusive, and selfreliant. ## **Encouraging participation and shared Responsibility;** Members are reminded that the running of the community is a shared responsibility. Everyone is encouraged to share ideas, give feedback, and take part in planning and organising activities. The community thrives when all member feels empowered to contribute, rather than leaving the work solely to the committee. Active participation from all help bring new ideas, strengthens accountability, and ensures that our community continues to meet the needs of every member. ## **Community challenges;** The community continues to face some challenges, with isolation being one of the most pressing. When members become distant or disengaged, it often leads to more individual and communal difficulties, such as loneliness, reduced participation, and missed opportunities for mutual support. To overcome this, members are reminded of the importance of staying connected, communicating openly and participating in community life. Through 9 | Page unity, compassion, and regular involvement, we can overcome these challenges and maintain the strong foundation our community is built upon. ## **VENUE:** Getting our own physical address has always been our ultimate goal. Rather than using addresses of the trustees for correspondence purposes, we continue to appeal to our members to donate generously to be able to get our own centre. last year we manged to secure a venue at This British Moslem Community Centre which is home for the near future free of charge but let us plan to have our own for the period when we can no longer be accommodated. ## **Conclusion;** The UMC Manchester and Liverpool community continues to uphold the principles of faith, unity, and mutual care. We remain committed to strengthening one another, and contributing towards all community initiatives. As we move forward, we aim to remain an active, compassionate, and wellconnected community that represents the true spirit of Islam and the warmth of our Ugandan heritage. ## **Summary of income and expenditure for UMC Manchester Twale 2024/2025 (see report attached)** The main source of our income is mainly from donations/grants from our members, well-wishers and sponsors. Currently, our Account has two donor groups. Some members donate towards our Masjid in sha Allah and others contribute towards ongoing events and activities we organise for the whole community.
