Trustees report for 2023/2024.
The Trustees present this annual report and financial statements for the year ending 31 March 2024 as required to comply with the charities act (1993) and amendment act (2006) and the charities SORP (2005).

Governing Documents:
Uganda Muslim Community (UMC) Manchester Twale is constituted as a CIO registered with the charity commission since 15 February 2018 under charity number 1177180.
Our Objectives:
To further or benefit the residents of Manchester and the neighbourhood, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the residents and the local authorities and other organizations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the residents.
The promotion of religious harmony for the benefit of the public by:
(a) educating the public in different religious beliefs including an awareness of their distinctive features and their common ground to promote good relations between persons of different faiths; and
(b) Promoting knowledge and mutual understanding and respect of the beliefs and practices of different religious faiths.’
To advance Islam, in particular but not exclusively by the provision of a Mosque in Manchester
Motive for the Trust:
To build a strong united society with emphasis on young people to make informed choices as life is full of challenges, we all face growing up in this diversity and multicultural society. This Trust has been set to work with other organisations and professional bodies to link and connect those in need at varying levels.

Organisation Structure:
The Charity Trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the Charity. The Trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits
On 25[th] November 2023, during the AGM, the following members we elected as part of the current management committee and volunteers inclusive of Trustees as follows:

The Committee as a body meets regularly and it’s responsible for all the decisions taken in relation to running the organisation and activities provided by the Charity.

Recruitment:
Through our annual General Meetings, all members are informed of requirements for positions or help needed to run the organisation. We ask anyone willing to volunteer in certain areas to come forward and help the committee. After this stage, the Trustees take responsibility for scrutinising anyone to serve and those who pass through this process start to assist. For long term positions, we process the DBS through a registered Umbrella body. However, we were told by the DBS office if someone has an Enhanced DBS in his or her current position it is okay to just have a look at that, because members are being charged by the Umbrella registered bodies for the service, yet they have paid the annual updated services with the DBS and yet we as an organisation do not qualify to process the DBS by ourselves. For our short-term volunteers we normally get references from our members and the general public by writing or sending out emails.
Achievements for the Organisation in our sixth anniversary as a Charity:
Community cohesion: The social cohesion with in the community has improved a lot and more people are turning up for events and charity programmes however, more work need to be done to reach out to other members who are missing out. We would like to appreciate every who has reached out or helped in building the community together across all spheres of life.
Ramadhan weekly Darasa’s:
During this period of the blessed month of Ramadhan, we increase our supplications and usually meet every week to learn more about our religion and

also interact socially as a community every Saturday evening. The aim of these sessions is to encourage our members to keep remembering their beliefs and learn more about the deen and break the fast together as one community. The committee would like to thank all our members who continue to contribute generously to ensure all these activities continue to be sustained. May the Almighty reward you in abundancy.
UMC UK sports day:
This was hosted by the North London Twale on the 22[nd] July 2023 at the Ark John Keats Academy, Bell Lane, Enfield EN3 5PA. The purpose of these sports’ day is to unite all Ugandan Moslems across the UK and encourage our members to stay fit, active and healthy, through engaging in different sports activities. This particular event attracted over 800 members engaging in different sports which was good for individual well ness.
Due to limitations in travel arrangements and attendance issues, the Manchester Twale only managed to participate in football and a few children activities like sack racing athletics and other field events and finished 5[th] out of 12 participating groups.
Eid Celebrations (Community get together parties):
Eid Ceremonies continue to play a big role in bringing our community together. It’s a day when most community members meet and interact in large numbers. For this 2023/2024 we held Eid Al Fitr in Manchester and Eid Al Adha in Liverpool as we continue to keep our closer ties across the North west cities of Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool. Through these celebrations, members especially the children get opportunities experience a different perspective of Islam as a guide to mankind across different scenarios. Eid celebrations are days of feasting, exchanging gifts and sharing meals and embracing each other as Muslims.
AGM & Elections:
This was held on 25th-11-2023 from 1pm to 5pm in room 8, Longsight library, Manchester, M12 4NE. During the AGM, the following members we elected as part of the current management committee and volunteers inclusive of Trustees

as follows to serve for a 3-year term rather than annual elections as previously. This was presided over and passed by the UMC Manchester Electro Committee.

During the AGM the committee presented its last year annual report and financial reports which were approved by the members and then submitted to the charity communication Portal.
Quran Competition:

This was held on the 1/01/2024 for all Ugandan decent Muslims based in UK. It was held at Derby Road (UMC UK Headquarters) East London Mosque, UK unfortunately we could not have a representation this year but managed to raise a facilitation fee of £250 to support the cause.
Future Prospects:
Our ultimate aim is to continue keeping the community together and getting our normal activities running. We constantly update our members using the WhatsApp forums and through our website and below are some of the issues we intend to improve or carry forward.
Policies and Procedures:
As a charity we need to continue keeping policies in place in order to comply with standards and requirements as stipulated by the charity commission. Emphasis has been put more towards GDPR AND SAFEGUARDING POLICIES thus members should bear in mind that all their data records are processed, stored and harvested as stipulated in the guidelines. Special safe guarding measures are also in place to protect the vulnerable members as ratified by the charity.
Social media platforms:
As a charity, we are compelled to follow all guidelines by the charity commission especially those related to safeguarding our members who may be affected by certain posts or comments. We call upon our members to bear this in mind when using charity forums and those who violate this will be removed or reported to relevant authorities.
Rising funds:
We urge all members to help their charity generously by setting up standing orders and donating to the organisation. Members and well-wishers do this willingly as we have no membership fee.
VENUE:
Getting our own physical address has always been our ultimate goal. Rather than using addresses of the trustees for correspondence purposes, we continue to appeal to our members to donate generously to be able to get our own centre. This year we manged to secure a venue at The British Moslem Heritage Centre which is home for our darasas for the near future free of charge.

The main source of our income comes from donations/grants from our sponsors and contributions from members and well-wishers. Currently, our Account has two donner members. Some members give towards Our Masjid in sha Allah and others contribute towards the events and activities we organise for the whole community.
