Organisation Structure

The Charity Trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the Charity. The Trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits

On 15[th] February 2020, during the AGM a management committee and volunteers inclusive of Trustees was elected as follows: -

Chairman/Trustee Mr Jaffer Gava Vice-Chairman Mrs Ziyada Lutale Secretary Miss Ziyada Nakacwa. Replaced Lailah Juma who stepped down in December 2020 Treasurer/ Trustee Mr. Abdukarim Kabanda Mzei Asist. Treasurer / Trustee Ms Nulu Nakitto Event’s organiser Mr. Yahyah Kakembo Volunteers (Winfred Nakku)

The Committee as a body meets monthly and it’s responsible for all the decisions taken in relation to running the organisation and activities provided by the Charity.

Recruitment

Through our annual General Meetings, all members are informed of requirements for positions or help needed to run the organisation. We ask anyone willing to volunteer in certain areas to help the Committee to come forward. After this stage the Trustees take responsibility of scrutinising anyone coming to serve and those who pass through this process start to assist. For long term positions we process the DBS through registered Umbrella body. However, we were told by the DBS office if someone has an Enhanced DBS in his or her current position it is okay to just have a look on that, because members are being charged by the Umbrella registered bodies for the service, yet they have paid the annual updates services with the DBS and yet we as an organisation we do not qualify to process the DBS by ourselves. Any one of or short-term volunteers we normally get references from our members and the general public by writing or sending out emails.

Achievements for the Organisation in our third anniversary as a Charity

COVID RELIEF GRANTS:

Realising the impact, the Covid 19 pandemic had on our community UMC- Manchester Twale applied for grants from Forever Manchester (GBP 4,855 Pounds) and UK lotto (GBP 9,264) to help support our benefices, many of whom were going through tough times due to job loses or under furlough. Through these grants we managed to secure food items and other groceries which were purchased and delivered to the community member’s residential addresses.

Food Banks

Working with CAHN Manchester, we managed to secure groceries in kind worth and these were distributed to over 35 families mainly elderly and people with special needs with in the community.

Community Engagement Zoom Sessions:

Using the grant secured from UK lotto, UMC Manchester-Twale managed to organise a series of community engagement grants to cover different aspects affecting our community members, these included how to deal with bereavement as a result of a close family member or friend, impacts of the covid pandemic and lock down on individual’s mental health, a series of health sessions to keep our members active, fit and health and others.

Community our reach Scheme:

Due to the impact of the Covid 19 and the lock down, UMC Manchester-Twale came up with a plan to call different members of the community to make sure they are safe and provide support where needed. This included shopping services for those in self-isolation who could not go out, providing contacts to professionals to help those in distress and other similar services all of which was sponsored by UK lotto.

Website:

To bring our services closer to the beneficiaries, UMC Manchester-Twale launched its online services to the community. Though there is still a lot of work to be done towards this digital migration with time we hope to conduct more of our community services and events online through an interactive platform.

Ramathan Darasa’s:

As a religious community we carried on with our annual Ramathan Darasa’s to the community though again in this year this was conducted online via zoom interactive services. Though there was not physical presence the vigour and engagement were felt throughout the sessions.

Kids Darasa:

Due to limitations to meeting physically, the UMC-Manchester-Twale continued with the kids Madrasa’s on Friday evenings via zoom interactive services. This helped the kids to be more engaged with in the community and provided something different outside the normal family routines throughout the lockdown.

UMC UK Bereavement fund:

Due to the number of deaths with in the community and the financial impacts to the members, UMC-Manchester-Twale has partnered with the UMC UK to provide a not-forprofit scheme dedicated to making it easy to meet burial costs when the inevitable suddenly happens. For just 65 pounds a year and just an initial administration cost of 75 pounds, members will have their funeral expenses covered. As a charity we realised it will be much easier to run the scheme on a national level that regional level due to the economies of scale. The more members into the fund the less the subscription cost.

Future Prospects:

Our ultimate aim is to continue keeping the community together and getting our normal activities running. We are continuing to use our new forum WhatsApp group to get everyone on board especially during this period when physical interactions have been very limited.

Policies and Procedures:

As a charity we need to continue keeping policies in place in order to comply with standards and requirements as stipulated by the charity commission. Emphasis has been put more towards GDPR AND SAFEGUARDING POLICIES thus members must sign the consent part of the GDPR policy for us to use their personal data including pictures and this will only be used for those purposes for which they are intended for.

RISING FUNDS:

We urge all members to help their charity generously by set up standing orders and donating to the Organisation. Members and well-wishers do this willingly as we have no membership fee, Charity begins at home.

VENUE:

We ask all members to look out for suitable cheap premises which we can use for our community activities and events until a time we can get our own. Also, we are looking into getting any un-used building from the Council. However, as at the moment Covid 19 is limiting congregations this is on a slow pace.

Quran Teachers or Sheikhs:

Our Community head Sheikh is Mr Musa Ssengoye, working as a volunteer. However, we are still struggling as a community to facilitate in bringing in different sheikh whenever needed.

Summary of income and expenditure for UMC 2020/2021 (see report attached)

The main source of our income comes from donations by our sponsors and contributions done by members and well-wishers. Currently on our Account we have two donations. Some members give towards getting our own premises and other contribute towards the events and activities we organise for the whole community. Also this year we received grants to help us get through the pandemic and lockdowns.
