THE FRIENDS OF ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCH LEAMINGTON SPA Charity Commission Registration 1177081 Annual Report 31 December 2020

Trustees

Rev. Christopher Harry Wilson (ex officio) Wynford (Wyn) Grant Marianne Pitts Sarah (Sally) Scarlett

Annual General Meeting

The second Annual General Meeting of the Friends was held at 1800 hours on 18 February 2021.

The Trustees were in attendance plus Douglas Bates, nominee of the Parochial Church Council.

The AGM and Membership of the Friends had been promoted among the congregation and via social media. With little opportunity for services and events within the church during the year, It was imperative that further efforts were made when circumstances allowed, to attract members, particularly those who were interested in the preservation of the building and who were not necessarily worshippers.

Wyn Grant chaired the meeting. He delivered the following report:

“Our activities this year have been severely impacted by the pandemic as is evident from the accounts. We had plans for a Christmas supper with accompaniment by the choir which received a considerable level of interest from the public but we had to call it off because of the lockdown. We are now hoping to run a harvest supper event at the end of September/beginning of October.

In the new financial year we have raised funds via a Facebook appeal and I am trying to set up an Amazon Smile account, so far without success.

The availability of trustees continues to be a concern. I can only serve as chair for one more year as I will then be 75 and Sally Scarlett, who has been a great source of support as our secretary, is likely to move to London in the course of 2021.

The parish church is in the process of appointing a development officer and I would appreciate a discussion with that person to see how the Friends can most effectively contribute to their work.

I did address the town council about our need for trustees and three councillors made supportive comments. Although this has not led to any offers of help, there is a possible course of action I could pursue in a few months’ time involving a town councillor. There is a general difficulty with organisations in the town securing sufficient volunteers which has been made worse by the pandemic.”

Fr. Christopher Wilson recorded his thanks to Wyn Grant as Chair and for his fundraising efforts. He hoped that the following year would see an improvement in the funds available to the church.

Accounts

Marianne Pitts presented the accounts.

Income for the year was £300, derived from donations.

Expenditure for the year was £426.80 for a fee for planning permission related to the development of the churchyard and insurance.

Total assets stood at £625.53.

The accounts were approved.

Trustees

It was agreed that the Trustees should be returned en bloc.

Plans for 2021

The Trustees planned to attract more members of the Friends, particularly those with an interest in the building and with skills and contacts to attract more people to use the church.

It was hoped to reinstate the guided tour of the church with refreshments which had been planned for June 2020 and cancelled due to the pandemic. It was also hoped to be able to hold a Harvest Supper in September 2021, in lieu of the planned and cancelled carol supper in December 2020.

Other events would be arranged for the year if at all possible.
