Chopdat & Co. 134 Bradford Road Dewsbury West Yorkshire WF13 2EW 1 ## **ANJUMAN E ZINATUL ISLAM** ## **TRUSTEES REPORT** ## **Structure, Governance and Management** ## **Governing document** Anjuman was entered on the Register of Charities on 08 February 2018 as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with the Charity Commission under charity number 1177057. It is governed by our constitution which was adopted on 15 October 2017. ## **Organisational structure** The charity trustees are responsible for the general control and management of Anjuman. The trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits. The trustees meet together as a body approximately every two months and are responsible for all decisions taken in relation to running the Masjid and Madressah, the community facilities and the activities provided by Anjuman. To assist in the smooth running of the charity the trustees have set up a number of sub-committees that help them oversee certain aspects of the charity’s work. Sub-committees are currently set up for marriage, maintenance, and funeral provisions. The sub-committees provide updates when needed at the bi-monthly meeting of the trustees. The day-to-day leadership of prayers and religious worship and the management of the Madressah is delegated to staff with the appropriate skills and qualifications. ## **Recruitment and appointment of trustees** As per clause 13 of our constitution all trustees shall retire from office at the first Annual General Meeting of Anjuman. After this at every subsequent annual general meeting one third of all trustees shall retire from office. The vacancies from the first annual general meeting and subsequent annual general meetings shall be filled by the decision of members present at the meeting. Any vacancies not filled shall be in accordance with clause 13.5 of our constitution and shall be the responsibility for the recruitment of new trustees but in so doing the trustees seek the views and recommendations of both elders and community leaders. The trustees believe this approach ensures that new trustees are respected members of the faith and local communities and ensures that good relations are fostered between the Masjid and the people of the local community that we serve. In selecting new trustees, we seek to identify people who regularly attend events and functions organised by the charity and are willing to volunteer to help in our broader community work. Potential trustees are invited to attend trustees’ meetings as observers and are given more details of the charity’s aims and activities and, if all agree, they are then proposed as new trustees at the subsequent trustees’ meeting. This process allows due consideration of the person's eligibility, personal competence, specialist knowledge and skills. ## **Induction and training of trustees** Following appointment, new trustees are introduced to their new role and given copies of Anjuman’s constitution and a guide to the policies and procedures adopted by our charity. Signposting to a number of publications from the Charity Commission is also provided including the guidance on charities and public benefit and on the advancement of religion for the public benefit. This ensures that new trustees are aware of the scope of their responsibilities under the Charities Act. Initially, new trustees work with an existing trustee assisting on particular activities and projects run by the charity. After satisfactory feedback from existing trustees, they are then given the task of leading a particular activity or project, reporting progress at trustees’ meetings. 2 ## **Affiliations** Anjuman is affiliated with the charity Indian Muslim Welfare Society (IMWS), charity registration number 1067746, the umbrella organisation for the Masajid in the Batley area. Anjuman also works closely with the other Masajid in the Batley area to ensure we have a shared and consistent approach (where appropriate) to our activities, policies, and procedures. This affiliation provides support and guidance to Anjuman, IMWS and the supporting Masajid in the area by having a collective voice and a wider expertise and skill set in order to carry out the functions of Anjuman. This affiliation does not stipulate requirement to endorse or agree to any decision either made by IMWS or the associated Masajid in the Batley region but where the trustees of Anjuman see fit to make the endorsement/agreement for the betterment of Anjuman and the work it does, it will do so. ## **1.�Objectives and activities** ## **Our aims** The objects of Anjuman are set out in the charity’s constitution and are summarised as follows: The advancement of the true Islamic faith by all means consistent with the teachings of the Quran and Ahaadith as interpreted by the Sunni Deobandi Hanafi school of thought, and in particular by the provision and maintenance of Masjid (place of worship) and Madressah (place of learning). To carry out religious, educational, charitable, social cohesion and welfare work as determined by Anjuman within the principles of the Islamic Faith as described above. ## **Our Objectives** Our objectives are set to reflect our faith and community aims. The trustees review our objectives and activities to ensure they continue to reflect our aims. In carrying out this review the trustees have considered the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit and in particular its supplementary public guidance on the advancement of religion for the public benefit. Our dual aims of advancing the true Islamic faith and providing religious, educational, charitable, social cohesion and welfare work is achieved by the provision and maintenance of Masjid (place of worship) and Madressah (place of learning). These two foundations of Anjuman provide the platform to support our aims of providing charitable, social cohesion and welfare work which will be described in more detail later within this report. ## **Strategies** We continue to ensure that provisions are in place for all worshippers of Islamic faith whether members of Anjuman or not to be able to fulfil their religious duty within our Masjid. This includes having provisions for five-time daily prayers, and ensuring we have an effective Madressah system in place that not only teaches our children the principles of our religion but supports them in becoming upstanding confident citizens of our community. We also ensure there are provisions for Islamic marriage and funeral for members and non-members of Anjuman. Our long-term aim is to support further community cohesion and inter faith work either within the Masjid itself or in partnership with one of the other Masajid in the Batley area. There is already excellent work taking place within the Batley area and it is our aim to enhance this work rather than duplicate efforts. An important part of our faith is charitable giving, according to one’s wealth and in accordance with Islam. We continue to work in partnership with our affiliated partners namely IMWS to enable members of our community and those visiting the Masjid to provide financial and non-financial aid and support to not only those in need within our area but also nationally and internationally. The key achievements and charities supported this year will be detailed later in this report. ## **Income Generation** We continue to pursue avenues to generate income for AZI. Through our three rental properties we have manged to bring in £17,019.25 income into our accounts in the year ending 2025. 3 As we are now charity registered, we can claim Gift Aid on the donations we receive. This year we received £15,816.48 through Gift Aid from the HMRC. These initiatives to ensure that we can meet the ever-increasing needs of our Masjid and Madressah in the current climate are pivotal and very welcome sources of additional income. ## **Use of volunteers** Volunteers are the backbone of Anjuman. It is only with the help of all our local volunteers and the grace of the Almighty that we find ourselves in a position of being able to contribute and make a difference to our community. Volunteers are involved in both the effective running of the Masjid provision as well as the effective running of our Madressah system. All our trustees also give of their time freely. We encourage all members of our community to be involved in voluntary activities and to share their skills with others. All those volunteers working with projects involving children or other vulnerable groups are DBS checked. The trustees express a special gratitude to all our members who continuously work in supporting the Masjid and Madressah in whatever way they can. Over the past years we have seen on more than one occasion, special coming together of our community when the need arises to ensure the needs of the Masjid and Madressah are always fulfilled. ## **2.�Activities and Achievements** How our activities deliver public benefit The charity carries out a wide range of activities in pursuance of its charitable aims. The trustees consider that these activities, summarised below, provide benefit both to those who worship at our Masjid, learn within our Masjid/Madressah system and the wider community. ## **Religious Activities** Our Masjid provides a centre for our prayers and worship and for the activities associated with our faith. During the year under review, we offered a range of religious services and activities including: **Prayers:** The Masjid is open for the five daily prayers. The provision includes worship space, ablution (cleaning ritual) facilities and a suitably qualified Imam(s) to lead the prayers. Ramadhan: The Masjid is open for longer periods during the month of Ramadhan. Facilities are in place to accommodate the increase of worshippers in this holy month. There are facilities for worshippers who wish to open their fast at the Masjid before Maghrib prayers and extended opening times to accommodate the night prayers. **Funeral facilities:** The Masjid provides a funeral service in line with the teachings of Islam. Specific facilities to accommodate the Islamic washing and shrouding are in place for anyone who may wish to use them. **Islamic Marriage - Nikkah:** The Masjid provides Muslim couples with an appropriate location for their Nikaah (Islamic marriage) **Islamic Awareness:** We were blessed to hold a number of important and spiritual gatherings in our Masjid with a number of keynote speakers from across the world. 4 ## **Madressah** ## Gratitude and Leadership of the Madrasah I hope and pray you are the best of Health and Imaan. All praise is due to The Almighty, and we express our heartfelt shukr (gratitude) for the opportunity and responsibility of leading the Madressah. It is through the mercy of The Almighty alone that the Madressah continues to grow, serve the community, and remain firmly rooted in the teachings of our respected elders. We also acknowledge the continuous guidance, duas, and support of our Hadhrat Mufti Sahib RA, whose teachings remain the foundation upon which our efforts are built. ## **Student Body and Educational Reach** Currently, the Madressah proudly serves over 215 students of all ages, reflecting the trust and confidence the community has placed in this institution. Our educational programs cater to a wide and diverse group, ensuring Islamic learning remains accessible at every stage of life. These include: - Maktab classes for young children, focusing on Qur’an recitation, basic fiqh, and Islamic character - Sanatayn programs for both men and ladies, providing structured Islamic education - Men’s Arabic class, strengthening understanding of the Qur’an and classical Islamic texts - Saturday ladies’ class, offering consistent learning opportunities for women - Tajweed classes, ensuring correct and beautiful recitation of the Qur’an This variety reflects our commitment to nurturing Islamic knowledge across generations. ## **Key Community Activities and Initiatives** ## Ramadan Support Initiative During the blessed month of Ramadan, the madrasah distributed Ramadan food packs to over 70 elderly individuals and widows within our local area. This initiative was a practical expression of compassion and community responsibility, ensuring that some of our most vulnerable members felt supported and remembered during this sacred time. ## Hifz Achievements One of the most significant milestones this year was the completion of Hifz by five young boys, a tremendous achievement for them, their families, and the madrasah. Their success stands as a testament to dedication, discipline, and the tireless efforts of their teachers. ## Community Engagement Programs ## _Kidz 4 Kidz_ The Kidz 4 Kidz initiative raised £3,100, demonstrating the generosity and enthusiasm of our younger community members. This program not only raised funds but also instilled values of charity, empathy, and responsibility in children. ## _Ladies Funday_ The Ladies Funday event raised £6,100, highlighting the strength, unity, and active participation of women within the community. Beyond fundraising, the event fostered social bonding, positivity, and a sense of shared purpose. ## **Community Unity and Direction** We are living in a time where the community must come together, support one another, and remain united upon authentic Islamic teachings. It is essential that we move forward collectively, holding firmly to the guidance and principles taught by Hadhrat Mufti Sahib, ensuring spiritual growth alongside community harmony. ## **Educational Workshops - Janazah Workshop for Ladies** A Janazah workshop specifically for ladies was conducted to educate and empower them with essential knowledge regarding Islamic burial rites and responsibilities. This workshop addressed an important need within the community, enabling women to confidently fulfil their roles during times of bereavement. ## **Moulana Bilal Mamaniat Sahib, Headmaster Anjuman-E-Zinatul Islam** 5 ## **Buildings Maintenance and Improvements** Following the improvement of the Masjid’s main entrance, where the old concrete flagstones were removed and replaced with porcelain tiles, work continued at the rear of the Masjid by replacing the flagstones and upgrading the lighting. We hope to have this work concluded early in 2026. In the girls’ Madressah, a new boiler was installed and additional sinks were fitted on the upper floor, with all materials once again donated. A new PA sound system was installed to ensure clear and adequate sound during prayer times. All materials and installation work were either donated or carried out free of charge. We began work on creating a dedicated office downstairs for our Imams. This space will allow them to carry out research and preparation, hold meetings, and conduct one-to-one welfare and support sessions in a private and confidential environment. We improved the lighting in the janazah area by changing the old lights with new LED lights. Finally, we installed a few more CCTV cameras to ensure we maintain security internally and externally. We pray that our donators are rewarded abundantly in this life and next for their generous donations. Aameen. ## **Welfare Work** Our Masjid continues to provide outreach, support, and welfare work within the community in the form of house visits to those who are elderly, vulnerable, young, and sick or those that we may not have seen in the community for a while. These visits are carried about by our volunteers who dedicate their own time to ensure that one and all in our community are looked out for and their needs identified. They provide any appropriate support and give any necessary guidance or advice that is required. Our community team organised a Community Walk for anyone from the community to join. ## **Taylor Street Outreach Team** Our Masjid has always provided outreach, support and welfare work within the community in the form of house visits to those who are elderly, vulnerable, young and sick or those that we may not have seen in the community for a while. Following on from this, a few years ago we started the Taylor Street Outreach Team (TSOT). All work has been carried out by volunteers from our community. TSOT continues to operate and offer assistance to members and non-members not only in our community but further afield if needed. This year once again our members have generously donated to a number of local, national, and international causes. 6 ## **ANJUMAN E ZINATUL ISLAM** ## **ACCOUNTANTS REPORT** ## **Responsibilities and basis of report Independent examiner’s statement** I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the organisation for the year ended 31 December 2025, which are set out on pages 11-12. ## **Responsibilities and basis of report** As the Charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). I report in respect of my examination of the Charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. ## **Independent examiner’s statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or 3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view' which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
