homes, Music Therapy in care homes, support for carers and lor people with dementia al lime of diagnos15.
Alongside this we work with chronic lung conditions, Long Covid and heart failure.
Though we are primarily dementia focussed Mindsong 5ils predominantly wilhin the creative health sector 2nd is
part of Arts on Prescription (Social Prescribing) in Glouceslershire, We are founding members of Gloucestevshire
Creative Health Consortium.
We also provide trainlng and support to profe8sional mL*siGians in Tunning demenlia-sensits've sessions in care

Our Mission statement
Meaningful music-making and singing lies al the heart of what we do. In an uncertain world, we aim lo provide a
supportive presence for the people we work with, whether they live wlh domenlia or olher health corKlilions, always
listening Mqlh opèn ears and offering comftsrt 8nd companionship.
All our work springs from a music therapy ethos ol always seeing the strengths, abilities and potential in everybody

used as a powerful tool in healthcare.
Our values
We want lo see music accepted as an integral part of older peoples. care,. appearing in slralegy d(Lumenls and
embedded in care plan thinking. We aim to lead the way in making music accessible for people with dementia
across the county and r￿￿OnallY.
According to our constitution:
The objects shall be lo promote and protect the physical and mental health of people living with dementia and othèr
neurodegeneralive conditions, other hoallh condition5 wheie music would have a signiliGanl impaGt, and those
that care for them, through the provision of musi¢ therapy, mèaningful music. support, edu¢alion and practical
advice.
Who we work wilh
People who have dementia and who live in care homes, or are being cared for in their own homes, are often
wrongly assumed lo be the least able lo participate in or contribute lo any aclivily. As well as problems with
memory and confusion, people with dementia may experience challenges with verbal communication and social
inleraclion, anxiety and depression. Difficulties wilh ccFordinalion and hearinglvisLtal impairment may add lo their
¢ommunicalion problems. This can lead lo isolation and loneliness both foT the persDn with dementia and those
th81 care lor them.
We believe in giving people with dementia a voice and enabling positive participation and conlribulion. We
deliver our services with respect for those 81 their most vulnerable. The people we work with are al the centre of
all that we do.
In addition, we use our skills lo run courses that will have gn impact on health and w@Ilbeing, whether this is after
dementia diagnosis, 01 imprtsving sell-managemenl leGhniques and conlidenctr for people with ¢hroni¢ lung
disease, Long Covid and heart conditions.

the music therapy ethos that is al the heart of Mindsong. Engagement equals benefit and our mission is lo supptsrl
and encourage residents lo access and engage with the singing lo the best DI their abilities.
We have a team of over 350 volunleers who visit the care home local lo them. Our volunteers have regulai updates
lo their training. The singing is unaccompanied, spontaneous, often joyful, always emotion81, and as rewarding for
volunteers as il is beneficial lor residents and staff IDO There is a lot ol chat which is almost as important as the
singing and staff have repeatedly told us that the residents, moods can be lifted for hours after volunteers have left.
