Financial review: The charity has no reserves policy. Details of the income and expenditure for the year are disclosed on pages 3 to 5 of the accounts. 3 Objectives and activities Charitable objects: To advance the education of the general public in the art of brass band music, in particular within Elland, by the provision of training and public performances of a range of musical works. Achievements and performance:
Legal formalities to transfer ownership of the assets of the band held by Charity Number 1176944 (unincorporated) to this Charity were completed in 2019 apart from the bank accounts. The bank accounts were transferred with effect from 1 January 2023.
An application will be made to close the band's previous charity number (1112614) once the final Gift Aid claim for 2022 has been made and paid.
Elland Silver Band runs a beginners brass band, beginner percussion ensemble, intermediate brass band, youth band, adult training ensemble and a senior band. Adult Brass and Band Skills courses ran in 2023.
The band has set up an Outreach project that aims to give all children in years 3 and 4, who attend a primary school in Elland, the opportunity to try a brass instrument.
In 2023 Senior Band entered the Yorkshire Area Brass Band Championships, Senior Cup and the Scottish Open Brass Band Championship in Perth. The Senior Band competes in the Championship Section. The Band's musical director resigned in December 2023, and a new appointment had been made for 2024.
The band finished second in the Hebden Bridge March Contest 2023. They also received prizes in the Whit Friday March contests and the Bolsover Festival of Brass.
The Youth Band performed at the 2023 European Youth Championships in Malmo, Sweden, and were placed third, and they were the highest placed Youth Section band at the Brighouse March Contest in July 2023. The Youth and Training Bands entered the National Youth Brass Band Championships.
In July 2023 we put on a Summer Spectacular Concert at Huddersfield Town Hall. This included performances from all the organisation's musical groups.
We hosted our annual Christmas Cracker Concerts featuring all of our musical groups. The Senior and Youth Bands also performed Christmas shows at the Piece Hall, Halifax and the Training Band played carols at local supermarkets.

Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiners
The Charity's Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The Charity's Trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (The Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is our responsibility to:

Examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act;

Follow procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charities Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act), and
-
State whether particular matters have come to our attention.
Basis of Independent Examiners' Statement
Our examination was carried out in accordance with general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent Examiners' Statement
In connection with our examination, no matter has come to our attention:

(1) which gives us reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met; or
-
(2) to which, in our opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
