## **Reference and Administrative Details**
The Trustees present their report together with the financial statements of the Curve Foundation for the period ended 31[st] March 2023.

## **Structure, Governance and Management**
The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation constituted using a ‘Foundation’ model and registered with the Charity Commission on 1[st] February 2018 under the number 1173569.
A change of name from ‘Shai’s Smile’ to ‘The Curve Foundation’ was granted by the Charity Commission on the 20[th] August 2020.
The charity appoints Trustees for a term of 3 years by a resolution passed at a Trustees meeting. The charity trustees consider the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO when selecting individuals for appointment as new charity trustees.
## **Objectives and Activities**
Charitable object is set out in the CIO governing document as follows:
For the public benefit the relief of sickness and the preservation of good health of, particularly but not exclusively, children with long term debilitating illnesses and medical conditions.
Summary of main activities undertaken for public benefit in relation to the object above:
- Supports children, young adults and families with life limiting diseases, invisible illnesses, mental health issues and learning differences.
- Provides a safe space to engage with one another, access knowledge, guidance and information through our bespoke services.
- Break down stigma, raise awareness and shine a light on some of these often-misunderstood conditions.
The Trustees reviewed and planned the charity’s activities during the period using the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit.
## **Achievements and Performance**
The period ending 31[st] March 2023 began well. Our counsellor provision at Moulsham High School in Chelmsford expanded to offer mental health support three days a week to children and young people at the school. During the financial year, 1 in 7.5 students were supported by the charity’s services. We are very happy about this progress considering 1 in 6 people have a mental health concern nationally. By the end of the period, the charity had directly supported 216 students and indirectly impacted their families and others within the local community.
Awareness continued to be an important part of the charity’s activities again this year. The Curve Foundation attended open evenings and worked with the school, to share the charity’s regular on-site presence with students and parents/carers. The Curve Foundation continued to be approached by other schools and organisations around Essex to provide services in their settings. However, due to our continued limited resources we were unable to commit to any new services again this year. The charity was however able to hold awareness stalls in and around the community throughout the year and we would like to thank our lovely volunteers for their support.
Strengthening policies and procedures and reducing operational task time has been important for the charity again this period, especially due to the nature of the expanding service provision. Recruitment has also been an ongoing activity for us this year, having increased our provision and with two trustees moving on to new ventures. The charity had some good news when our new bank account was finally opened after 18 months of delays and issues. The new account made it a lot easier for the charity to register for Gift Aid and some other financial resources which we are thankful for.
The charity’s fundraising activities returned to pre-pandemic levels during this year and we saw the beginning of some new fundraising methods to help diversify the charity’s income generation. The charity also looked into developing our evaluation methods to improve our case for financial support (e.g. from corporates) in the future. This year, the large gala dinner held annually in aid of the charity raised nearly £38,000 to support the Curve Foundation’s work. We were also named the charity for a corporate fundraising event on the Thames and received £3,495 from the evening. Our annual challenge fundraiser, Miles Over Mind, did not perform as well this year, raising only £1,300 (2021: £2,400). We did however move our seasonal raffles online during the period to increase exposure and provide a better platform for parents and carers to fundraise through the school.
This year was not free from challenges for the Curve Foundation. As successful as the expanded service was at Moulsham High School, the charity experienced some staffing issues during the period, which resulted in some service changes. However, the charity was able to maintain the three days of service provision at the school throughout the period. We also had interest from professionals looking to volunteer at the service to gain further experience in mental health support for children and young people. However, as a new project, the charity was not in the position to set up a new supervisory programme alongside our current provision with the limited resources available to us.
## **Financial Review**
The charity’s total income was £61,380 and total payments made were £47,245. As of the 31[st] March 2023, the charity held unrestricted funds of £25,810. Due to the natural of the activities the charity provides and the lack of current overheads, the charity does not have a reserves policy at this time.

I report in respect of my examinatDn of the Trust's accounts carried out under SeCtn 145 of the
2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by
the Charity CommissK)n under section 14Sl5llbl of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my exarnination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in
connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect,.
the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Art,. or
the accounts did not accord wtth the accounting records,. or
the accounts did not Comp with the applicable requirement5 concerning the form and
content of atcounts set out in the Charities IAcwunts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other
than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair, view which is not a matter
considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no con¢ern5 and have come across no other matters in (Dnnection wh the examination to
which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the
accounts to be reached.

## **Note 1: Accounting Policies**
## **Basis of Preparation**
These financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with the Charitable Incorporated Organisations (General) Regulation 2012 and section 133 of the Charities Act 2011.
## **Income Receipts**
All material incoming resources have been included on a receivable basis i.e. they are included if the date received falls within the period covered by these accounts.
## **Expenditure Payments**
These have been analysed using a natural classification.
## **Going Concern**
The Trustees assess whether the use of going concern is appropriate (for example, whether there are any material uncertainties related to events or conditions that may cast significant doubt on the ability of the charity to continue as a going concern). The Trustees make this assessment in respect of a period of one year from the date of approval of the financial statements. The charity is operating on a going concern basis.
## **Fund Accounting**
Unrestricted funds are donations and other income received or generated by the charity's charitable purposes. Restricted general funds are to be used for specific purposes as set out by the funder/donor.
