## **Reference and Administrative Details**
The Trustees present their report together with the financial statements of the Curve Foundation for the period ended 31[st] March 2022.

## **Structure, Governance and Management**
The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation constituted using a ‘Foundation’ model and registered with the Charity Commission on 1[st] February 2018 under the number 1176935.
A change of name from ‘Shai’s Smile’ to ‘The Curve Foundation’ was granted by the Charity Commission on the 20[th] August 2020.
The charity appoints Trustees for a term of 3 years by a resolution passed at a Trustees meeting. The charity trustees consider the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO when selecting individuals for appointment as new charity trustees.
## **Objectives and Activities**
Charitable object is set out in the CIO governing document as follows:
For the public benefit the relief of sickness and the preservation of good health of, particularly but not exclusively, children with long term debilitating illnesses and medical conditions.
Summary of main activities undertaken for public benefit in relation to the object above:
- Supports children, young adults and families with life limiting diseases, invisible illnesses, mental health issues and learning differences.
- Provides a safe space to engage with one another, access knowledge, guidance and information through our bespoke services.
- Break down stigma, raise awareness and shine a light on some of these often-misunderstood conditions.
The Trustees reviewed and planned the charity’s activities during the period using the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit.
## **Achievements and Performance**
The period ending 31[st] March 2022 was the first full year that the Curve Foundation was able to play an active role in helping children and young people get the support that they need with their mental health. At the beginning of the new financial year, we began talks with Moulsham High School in Chelmsford, about how we might be able to provide additional Mental Health Support to the students.
After consulting with mental health professionals, the charity set in motion our plans to increase mental health support access to young people. In September 2021, we began a pilot programme with Moulsham High School and supplied our first mental health support nurse to work with the students of the school. Due to the success of the Autumn term pilot, the charity planned to expand the provision for the school at the start of the spring term. Unfortunately recruiting qualified professionals to provide for the expansion proved a challenge but, by the beginning on March 2022, we managed to supply two additional counsellors at Moulsham High School.
During the year, raising awareness continued to be an important part of the charity’s activities. The Curve Foundation attended open evenings and we worked with the school to communicate the charity’s on site presence to students and guardians through their newsletter and social media channels. The charity also considered a partnership opportunity to provide awareness and wellbeing sessions for other members of the community within the school catchment but, due to limited resources, we were unable to participate at the time.
Strengthening policies and procedures and reducing operational task time has been important for the charity this period, especially due to the nature of the new service provision at Moulsham High School. Recruitment has also been an ongoing activity for us this year, having increased our service provision and with some trustees and longer term freelancers moving on to new ventures. However, the appointment of a new trustee and a new administrator has increased the skill base and resources available to the charity and we are in a better position for the future.
The charity’s fundraising income remained low this year. This was due to the postponement of a large gala dinner, which is usually held annually in aid of the charity. However, our newly created Miles Over Mind Campaign raised nearly £2,400 and the charity received support from a range of community and corporate donors. Tim, a Curve Foundation trustee ran a half marathon and a local team held a charity football match in aid of the charity. Additionally, this year saw the beginning of some new fundraising methods to help diversify the charity’s income generation and provide future sustainability.
Alongside the fundraising constraints, the year presented some operational challenges for the Curve Foundation. The charity continued to face difficulties setting up a bank account in the new charity name, which restricted many opportunities including applying for funding and registering as a charity with HMRC for tax purposes. The charity also decided not to go ahead with planned socially distanced mental wellbeing picnics in the park during the spring and summer holidays due to the changing Covid-19 restrictions and uncertainty during the period. However we are optimistic that both of these barriers will be removed going forward.
## **Financial Review**
The charity’s total income was £4,989 and total payments made were £23,255. As of the 31[st] March 2022, the charity held unrestricted funds of £11,676. Due to the natural of the activities the charity provides and the lack of current overheads, the charity does not have a reserves policy at this time.

## **Note 1: Accounting Policies**
## **Basis of Preparation**
These financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with the Charitable Incorporated Organisations (General) Regulation 2012 and section 133 of the Charities Act 2011.
## **Income Receipts**
All material incoming resources have been included on a receivable basis i.e. they are included if the date received falls within the period covered by these accounts.
## **Expenditure Payments**
These have been analysed using a natural classification.
## **Going Concern**
The Trustees assess whether the use of going concern is appropriate (for example, whether there are any material uncertainties related to events or conditions that may cast significant doubt on the ability of the charity to continue as a going concern). The Trustees make this assessment in respect of a period of one year from the date of approval of the financial statements. The charity is operating on a going concern basis.
## **Fund Accounting**
Unrestricted funds are donations and other income received or generated by the charity's charitable purposes. Restricted general funds are to be used for specific purposes as set out by the funder/donor.
