Sarratt & Chipperfield Community Foundation
Annual Review of SCCF - 2022
SCCF projects in the Parish of Chipperfield and Sarratt -
The year started well with SCCF’s already well established community outreach continuing on from 2021.
Projects in the Community:
- SCCF initiated the startup of the Sarratt Sustainability group
In 2022, the group has grown and has led four meetings over the year. The continued emphasis on raising awareness to the pollution of the River Chess and some good headway has been made. The litter picking initiative has grown to a good number of volunteers going out monthly to clear up the countryside. This group is also very supportive of another venture under the SCCF’s banner which is the community garden. SCCF has committed to support the group financially by paying the charges of room hire in the Village hall. Also support where needed.
POP UP COMMUNITY CAFE
The community Cafe has continued to be a great success. It is a monthly Cafe held in the Sarratt Village hall and attracts a good number of local people and visitors to the area. The atmosphere of welcome and affordability to the retired section of the community has made it a very popular place to be once a month, on the second Monday. It is run by volunteers and local bakers support the initiative by baking and giving freely each month. Highly popular community space which encourages networking and also hosts various local crafts and businesses to visit.
In 2022 the local Community Police have been joining in and this has been really appreciated by the visitors.
The Cafe has also been registered as a Warm Space in 2022 - This is a new initiative from the Bishop of St.Albans in response to rising costs of heating.
It means that anyone can come to the Cafe and stay without feeling they have to rush to spend any money. The Cafe is on the Bishop’s register and therefore anyone needing a warm space can find it the Pop up community Cafe.
The community Cafe since inception has been fully self-supporting despite the very low charge to its customers. (£1:50 for coffee and cake) with free top ups’.
SCCF - owns and updates the Parish website on a weekly basis, this is a place for news and advertising. The advertising revenue goes straight into SCCF to be used in the community where needed.
SCCF - Also maintains and updates the SCCF Charity website regularly.
SCCF - Community Care Alarms
This is to support the most vulnerable in their homes and helps by paying all the costs for having a care alarm in the home. This initiative is in partnership with the Sarratt Parish Council. It works very well and the recipients are very grateful for the support financially and practically. It literally is a lifesaver for some residents in the Parish.
SCCF - Community Garden - work started in the first lock down and since then the garden has flourished with a good group of volunteers helping from the local community. In 2022 the garden started to supply the community store with fresh vegetables, salads and flowers.
The garden has been able to open to the local school and has had some really good informative projects for the children. Also working with other local groups like Mission Employable. The community garden continues to grow in popularity and has seen a cafe open for four days a week in partnership with the Sarratt store.
SCCF - Child Play Therapy in the Parish Schools
Both the Chipperfield and Sarratt primary schools have benefitted from the financial support of SCCF, to be able to fund a child therapist who works mainly in groups of four and also one to one. The need for extra support within the schools has increased beyond what anyone imagined since Covid 19. The parents and both schools report how much this extra support has benefitted many children since its inception.
SCCF -Refugee support
During 2022 the community Cafe hosted the local refugee charity for an afternoon. The group wanted to raise awareness of the families coming to the UK with real needs.
SCCF was able to donate to a local family through the Charity, the family have now successfully moved to a new location where they have other Afghan families who have also been relocated. A success story from a very stressful situation.
KGV Park and playing fields
SCCF is part of an ongoing group to bring to the park a brand new playground for the under 12’s. The project is in planning and needs essential funding from various sources. This project will be ongoing as still early in the planning.
2022 - Year of the Platinum Jubilee
SCCF was the lead in creating a Parish Platinum party on the village green.
All of the costs were covered by SCCF and the whole day was planned by SCCF.
It was a huge success supported by the local community of all ages. The whole day was great fun with a dog show, scouts skills, children’s races, tug of war, picnics and cake competition, fancy dress for the children and finished with a community photo for all.
The photo has now been blown up and framed and hung in the village hall next to the last community photo taken at the millennium.
SCCF covered the costs of updating the original photo from 2000 and also framing the Platinum photo. Both can be seen in the Sarratt Village hall.
Neighbourhood Plan
This is a group who are looking to effect real change for good for the future of the village. Averting development where it is not needed or wanted and shaping what would be best for the community going forward whilst protecting the beauty and nature of the countryside of the Parish. SCCF has been instrumental in working with this group of volunteers. It is still continuing to make good progress.
Christmas Tree and Lights for the Sarratt School
The school approached us for a Christmas tree that could stand at the entrance to the school during the month of December 2022 - SCCF paid for the tree and also the wiring and electrics for the duration of the Christmas season. It was welcomed and enjoyed by many. The school finished the term with a Carol singing gathering for the children and their families and also the local community.
This, we hope will continue for 2023 .
