Social Accounts Year Ended 30.06.2023 South Shields FC Foundation Limited Company No. 10257450 Registered Charity No. 1176894

Welcome to our Annual Report and Social Accounts for the financial year ended 30 June 2023.

It's been a fantastic year for us, growing and expanding our activities and impact and approaching the £25million mark in social impact in this our sixth year of existence.

Welcome

A special thank you to our Chairman Geoff Thompson, our Trustees, staff, sponsors and volunteers without whom we couldn't do what we do.

We'd also like to say a special thank you to our community partners, especially Sea View Primary, Hadrian Primary and Bamburgh SEN school who have remained with us from day one of our journey.

There are exciting times ahead with the men's first team securing promotion to National League North. We look forward to a new partnership with the National League Trust as we cement our position as the club's charitable organisation.

Steve Camm, Foundation Manager, South Shields FC

Life Events July 2022 – June 2023

It's not just about football and being active. Mental health and wellbeing is also positively impacted by making new friends and keeping in touch with old ones.

Throughout the year we host 100 small life events at Harton Welfare e.g. wakes, weddings, christenings. leavers parties, birthdays, kids birthdays and family fun days.

We also hosted a celebration event to mark the Kings Coronation.

Holiday Activities & Food August 2022 – July 2023

In August 2022 we became a supplier of Holiday Activities for South Tyneside Council. The Holiday Activities and Food programme was set up as a response to the cost of living crisis as an attempt to ensure that children who normally received free school meals during term time should have access to food and healthy activities during school holidays.

We delivered three programmes across the year providing 1477 meals and 26 days activity. 85% of beneficiaries live in the 5% most deprived neighbourhoods nationally.

Since 2017 we've used a Wellbeing Valuation Approach to measure and record our social impact.

Wellbeing Valuation is in the Treasury’s Green Book, the UKs core guide to policy evaluation. The methodology was developed by Daniel Fujiwara (London School of Economics), Affinity Sutton, Catalyst Housing and the Housing Associations Charitable Trust. It works by isolating the particular factors that affect health and wellbeing e.g. playing a sport, getting a job or socialising with friends.

It then attributes an equivalent financial value to each of these factors. This is the amount of cash that would be needed to increase someone’s wellbeing by the same amount.

e.g. playing a sport regularly over a two month period would have the same impact on health and wellbeing as being given £3,101.

It’s a one off calculation, so once a benefit has been calculated and attributed to a particular year the continuation of the activity doesn't keep adding to the total. We like this because, whilst we want to retain people in activities, to add to our impact we must constantly engage NEW people.

Since 2017 we've grown and extended our social impact.

In the early years the social impact value was achieved purely by the numbers involved in our grass roots football programme.

In more recent years this has broadened to a wider group of participants particularly the children we work with in primary school settings. We have also increased the number of adults we work with.

Because the calculation doesn't credit retained numbers, only new engagement, the fact that we have delivered over £24million in social impact illustrates quite strikingly how many people we have reached in those six years.
