## _**Creating opportunities together through learning**_ ## **Annual Report 2021** ## **Trustees and Constitution** : - Chairman Melanie Horn - Treasurer Gary Bircher - Trustee Committee: Jacob Horn, Ellie Freer - Representative in Uganda Makaka Vestar - Trustees are recruited through personal recommendation and subsequent agreement by the existing trustees - The Charity is governed via a Constitution of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation whose only voting members are its charity trustees - Two Trustees, David Webb and Emily Daverson resigned due to full time work commitments and a change in employment. ## **Registered Address:** - 46 Barkers Mead, Yate, Bristol. BS37 7LF ## **Charity aims:** - To advance the education of adults and children in Uganda by providing financial support to establish and run a school or schools and to enable adults and children to access education and training. - To prevent or relieve poverty or financial hardship in Uganda by providing or assisting in the provision of education, skills training programmes, healthcare projects and all the necessary support designed to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and be selfsufficient. ## **Fundraising:** - The charity has continued its links with Blackhorse Primary School and formed links with other schools in South Gloucestershire and Devon through the development of its ‘ _Read for Seeds_ ’ Scheme but schools were hit by Covid 19 rules and regulations and unfortunately postponed the running of the scheme again. - Donations were received via its website and Facebook profile. Registered Charity Number 1176871 ## _**Creating opportunities together through learning**_ ## **Raising Awareness** - The charity has continued to maintain a website and social media pages to inform investors and promote awareness, including photos and dialogue from people within the village. - The charity continued to review and add to its _Inspire Project_ Agricultural Sessions delivered via its mobile classroom in Uganda and its _Read for Seeds_ Campaign to support children’s reading in the UK and help create funds through sponsorship for its Inspire Project. - The provision of free assemblies and educational materials for schools and other organisations in the UK, relating to life in Uganda and our activities to reduce hardship. ## **What has happened this year:** - Given the disaster of the worldwide pandemic of Covid_19, the charity decided to continue its mobile schooling project (Inspire) aimed at teaching kitchen planting and farming to support communities, villages and suburbs struggling with famine. - Work began on creating a banner to appear on google and is ongoing. - The Team met to review the Inspire Project teaching sessions and amended them as necessary to improve the delivery of the sessions. - A second volunteer, Ivan Wanje, attended the Inspire Project to observe teaching and receive mentoring from Makaka Vestar. Ivan has now joined Makaka Vestar and Luyima Ponsiano as part of the training team. - Makaka Vestar met with contacts in Kitungwa, Kitanda, Matugah and Mbale to schedule trainings in these communities. - Melanie Horn joined in trainings via video call facilitated by Makaka Vestar and with a team member translating the teaching. - The Inspire Project was delivered to approximately 100 families/farmers throughout these communities, completing a session per week, and each group completed the training with a celebration and gave testimonies about what they had achieved. Some of these testimonies were recorded and uploaded to the website with permission from the student. - As part of the training, each delegate commits to sharing what they learn with others in the community. Delegates in Kitungwa benefitted from another delegate lending them an acre of land for a year to work together and teach more families and farmers in the community. Promise supported them with additional seeds for planting. - Promise continues to revisit its communities to maintain relationships and provide a channel for asking further questions. - As part of the training, Promise also visits individual gardens to offer help and advice. - As above, Promise delivered assemblies to Primary Schools online educating UK children about life in Uganda to encourage global awareness. - Promise applied to Kitchen Table Charity Trust for a grant to supply seeds and tools to its families and farmers attending the Inspire Project training. - Promise wrote policies and a training programme for volunteers.
