To reduce social exclusion for the public benefit within Argoed and South Eastern Valleys by preventing people from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society by: 

**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** 

- Providing a community café run volunteers and offering work experience 

- Providing opportunity for unemployed, to increase skills undertake low level support in the kitchen to become socially included and increase the chances of accessing employment 

- Signposting counselling services for people with drug and alcohol dependencies 

- Promoting the improvement of the conditions of life in socially and economically disadvantaged communities 

- Providing a volunteering workplace for them within the project 

- Provide sustainable refreshment and hospitality facilities for people suffering the effects of rural isolation and people suffering from long term illness including dementia

The café operates on two days a week providing a friendly environment for members of the local community.  It no longer provides a shelter for the homeless during the winter months. This change is due to the changes in government policy on housing the homeless.

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

The café is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays.   It averages 50 customers a week and serves members of the community such as individuals, walking groups, Carers and their clients and clients from a local psychiatric hospital.  It offers a friendly and supportive environment where people make friends.  It is particularly effective in providing new friendships for those individuals living alone and who are otherwise socially isolated. 

Food and drink are offered at low prices to again support those on low incomes.  The café has also provided work experience for individuals to help with employability skills and to increase their confidence and self-esteem. Barista training is provided for all volunteers and work experience individuals 

The café has a regular group of approximately 12 volunteers and also has a group of ad hoc volunteers to call upon when needed.
