Wildlife in Ascot Annual Report for the Charity Commission For the year 2025
This year Sunninghill library held a Wildlife Month where we put up a display of our work and flora and fauna in the area and gave short talks at the start of a couple of presentations organised in the library.
We were approached by a local Marketing Company who wanted to provide a day of voluntary work using their skills. We organised for them to update our website and create a couple of leaflets.
W e continued with our conservation and recording work. We maintained the Carnation Hall pollinator patch, other local wildflower beds and a primary school wildlife garden. We recorded trees, carried out conservation work and surveys including live small mammal trapping at our local SANG, the Lakeview LWS and our local “kingfisher flyway” pond. We recorded flowering wildflowers at a local wildlife site and surveyed for bats across our area. We led a group on our annual nightjar walk.
At the start of the year we ran our popular Wildlife in Ascot Annual Quiz at The Stag Pub in Ascot High Street. We were at full capacity welcoming teams from Bracknell Conservation Volunteers, Warfield Environment Group, Bracknell Forest Natural History Society, Ascot Shed, Binfield Environment Group and Bracknell Forest Rangers.
We continued to promote the Wildlife Gardens Awards scheme in our area through media outlets and attendance at 2 local fetes where we also sold our booklets. We had 14 articles published in the local press, mostly authored by a young volunteer. Our Facebook Group has become more active over the year. We continue to work with neighbouring nature groups and our local parish and unitary authority councils. This year we also had the opportunity to attend a volunteer recruitment fair in Bracknell.
We continued to work on the biannual FreshWater Watch Thames WaterBlitz by taking and analysing samples of water from our local waterways along our green corridors which flow into the River Thames.
