_Psalm 100 vs 5_

This is a truth we have experienced over the last year and need local young people to hear and know for themselves. We can be grateful for all the generations who have gone before us so that we have heard and been able to respond to the Good News of Jesus Christ.

British Youth for Christ operates to ‘take the Good News relevantly to every young person in Britain’. Here in Haverhill and District we play our part in passing this on to the next generation; what a privilege!

Illuminate youth group seeks to explore and apply the Christian faith to our everyday lives and encourage everyone to connect personally with God through Bible study, prayer and worship. This term we have seen the group grow in numbers which has been a real blessing. Over the years our helper numbers have dwindled, and we could use a few new people to help once a month. Please have a chat with me if you might be interested.

Our chaplaincy listening service has continued to flourish in Castle Manor Academy and Stour Valley Community School. In the academic year 2023-2024 I was able to support 111 individual students in 323 half hour slots, across both schools.

Last autumn we ran a 6 week Kintsugi Youth wellbeing group at SVCS and plan to run another this year. One of the students is still talking about how the group has transformed her life, and she has been able to work through some difficult situations in a much healthier way since then.

The SPACE question board remained a constant part of the work with students running over at lunchtime saying they love answering the questions. The highest number of responses was at SVCS – 187 answers for one question!

The 1 – 1 mentoring sessions carried out last year with a young person were a great opportunity to make space to chat about school, faith and life in general.

We are very pleased that Jane Baillie has stepped up from Trustee into the Chair of Trustee’s role. She has been on the board for many (many) years and will lead us into the future, focused on God, very well. Jane is a member of Clare Baptist Church.

It is also wonderful to have Claire Waller joint as a new Trustee. She is an experienced Illuminate and Sunday Club (Haverhill Methodist Church) leader and has a real heart for young people.

We have also welcomed Nick Vosper to the Council of Reference. He brings a vast experience of church work and is the Chair of Governors at SVCS.

Over the next year we are keen to set up an after-school group based around cooking a meal together and introducing the Christian faith through discussions about life. This will be aimed at young people who do not yet know Jesus. We are still working towards being able to employ another part time worker.

Thank you to all of our Partners - those who pray, donate and volunteer – without you HDYFC would not be possible.
