regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public
benefit.
These activities included:
•successful completion of Heritage Fund project NM-22-
00860
•creation of the Chartist Footsteps App
(https://map.newportrising.co.uk)
funded by Heritage Fund and Shared Prosperity Fund,
administered by Newport City Council (NCC)
•establishment of two new sub-committees of the Board of
Trustees: the Fundraising Committee and the Newport
Rising Hub Committee
•engagement of Project Director (with grants from Heritage
Fund and Postcode Community Trust) tapering as follows:
0.7 FTE from January-April 2025; 0.6 FTE from May-June
2025; and 0.2 FTE from July-December 2025
•completion of the first two-year lease of 170 Commercial
Street and renewal for a further two years with the support
of a grant from NCC
•full operation of Newport Rising Hub (the Hub), enabling
OCH to raise the profile of Newport’s Chartist heritage
through a year-round programme of events and activities in
the city centre, including the first half of a six-month creative
arts residency by Goldtops Studios
•active participation in Newport’s annual cycle of events and
festivals including the first Newport Festival of Words,
Newport Food Festival, Newport Music Trail and Arts on the
Hill Festival
•delivery of guided tours of Newport’s Chartist Trails by
graduate of a programme of accredited training for tourist
guides, delivered by Wales Official Tourist Guide
Association (WOTGA), in partnership with NCC and OCH in
August 2024
•OCH presence at Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival 2025
•representation on Newport Place Board, responsible for
overseeing, implementing and monitoring place-based
strategies, including the city’s cultural, destination
management and marketing plans
•live events including
`o`guided walk to the Chartist Cave on Llangynydyr
Mountain
`o`inaugural Chartist Legacy Lecture at University of
South Wales Campus by Professor Sam Friedman

_and_ Chartism; a presentation by theatre company HER STORY, entitled _Mary Frost_ ; Huw Williams _Chartism in Merthyr_ ; Gavin Eynon _The Trial of John Frost_ ; and a musical interlude by Julian Hayman and Laura Wainright accompanied by Men of Gwent. `o` multiple art and craft workshops at Newport Rising Hub including the making of 22 lanterns, each inscribed with the name of one of the Chartists killed outside the Westgate Hotel in 1839 `o` Newport Rising Torchlit March from Belle Vue Park to the Westgate Hotel, which began with performances by Blessed Crow, Newport Male Choir, and fire artists Hummadruz. Actor Gareth David-Lloyd ( _Torchwood)_ addressed a rousing speech to the marchers at Belle Vue Park and led a crowd of 2000 participants in singing outside The Westgate Hotel `o` after-party at Le Pub with live concert by Mwsog, Joe Kelly & The Royal Pharmacy and AWDL `o` Chartist Commemoration Ceremony in the churchyard of Newport Cathedral on the 186th anniversary of Newport Rising, which was attended by the general public, elected representatives, the Mayor and the Dean of Newport Cathedral `o` History at the Hub sessions including: _Chartist Statues: Unity, Prudence and Victory_ with Bethan James; _The Evolution of Newport’s Music Scene_ with Bethan James; Screening of Gresham College Lecture by Professor Vic Gatrell on _The Cato Street Conspiracy_ ; Screening of Michael Sheen’s documentary _Valleys Rebellion,_ hosted by Sian Roderick Director and Co-Producer and Meic Birtwistle Co-Producer `o` launch of a pop-up Christmas Bookshop at the Hub, in partnership with Parthian Books, with celebrity appearance by Patrick Jones and a poet from the new writers’ group _Voices for the Future_ •

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/12/2021.
**Responsibilities and** As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation **basis of report** of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
