## **BURCOTT & DISTRICT RDA Riding Group 1176600 Chair’s Report for AGM** 

## 6 September 2022 

I have to say it has been quite difficult at times but everyone has worked together and we’ve managed to keep going.  Cancellations, sometimes at the last minute, by riders has caused problems.  Also lack of the right size of ponies. 

We’ve lost several of our usual riders either because they had something else to do or schools being difficult about allowing children out during school time. 

The group had to move from HSBC bank because they were going to start charging for Charity accounts.  Thank you Trustees for all your help with that. 

We have had problems with Burcott.  It was suggested that we buy a pony and then put it on working livery with them so they could use it in the riding school.  I’m afraid we just couldn’t afford that.  Judith, Emma and I had a meeting with Nikki and Bob to discuss what we could do and things have been resolved.  We will pay for the hire of the Arena and Ponies for the morning for 33 weeks per year and increase the payment when we have more riders and need the Arena in the afternoon too. 

I wrote to Head Office to apply for funding.  They had several suggestions but were unable to help with the large amount of money needed.  By then we had decided that after other experiences of having ponies on working livery at Burcott it just wasn’t the best way to spend our money. I also applied to Thatchers Cider but had no luck their. 

Our riders were very well placed in the Area dressage and hand pony competition.  Our group also won the Most Dynamic Volunteer Group Award. Sue Downer said that if she lived closer she would join us. 

Paul has continued to keep our building standing.  Thank you Paul.  He has also repaired the arena fencing making it safe for us and Burcott. 

Several of us attended a demonstration and training programme at Horse World Welfare near Somerton.  I also went to a County Meeting.  We sold race cards at Mendip Farmers Point to Point, our main fund raising opportunity  of the year. 

I want to thank you  for all your hard work this year. Volunteers, Trustees and especially our brilliant Instructors.
