BURCOTT & DISTRICT RDA Riding Group 1176600 Chair’s Report for AGM 26 October 2021
We started the year with a photo and article in the Mendip Times.
We held several socially distanced Trustees meetings so we could discuss our options to offer riding to our riders. This included moving yards. There was also a lot of information from Headquarters which we had to discuss. As rules relaxed we were able to start making plans for restarting.
There was a great deal of paperwork to sort through and lots of boxes to tick. I want to thank everyone who's helped us prepare. Julie and Judith have worked extremely hard. As you can imagine the risk assessment was extensive. We were all very relieved when we received the sign off papers. Harry has helped with the paperwork. Paul has done a lot of work on the room and also repaired the mounting block and fencing.
We had to reassess all the ponies who have also had 18 months of not doing very much. Thank you everyone who came to the yard to help with this. We will have 6 ponies. Dancer, Scout, Smokey, Lettie, Leroy and Harvey. Unfortunately, Merlin has just been sold.
We contacted Volunteers in the hope that we would begin lessons again in September. Unfortunately, Jane, Sue and Colette have decided not to return but we hope to keep in touch. Julie ran a training course and Mary, Julie and Pauline took a first aid training session. Nine of us went to the Glenda Spooner Charity for a Therapy and Medical Training Demonstration in September.
We finally managed to run a riding lesson for two of our riders, Becky and Ellis on the 19th October. It has been decided that we will only operate in the mornings to start with. It was lovely to watch them. They were both nervous getting back on but they both really enjoyed their rides and loved getting a rosette too. Several of our riders have moved on to other things and of course grown so they won't be returning. However, Julie has a very long waiting list of prospective riders. I've also been contacted by some new Volunteers.
It has been a very strange and frustrating year. Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate everyone's hard work.
Judith would still like to step down as Treasurer. If any of you would like to take over please let me know.
