Malpas Community Minibus Trustees Annual Report 2020/21

This was our third full year of operating, sadly as last year, COVID 19 and its consequences continued to have a major impact on all things we have been able to do.

The principal activity this year has been transporting local people to the vaccination centra at Cheshire View. This has been an important service and we have been able to provide transport for a signifi cant number of local people. The service has been off ered free of charge, made possible due to grants from the local Parish Councils of Malpas, Tilston and No Mans Heath. We also had a contribution from the patient comfort fund at Laurel Bank GP surgery and many passengers made voluntary contributions. Thanks to all.

Thanks also to the volunteer drivers, Phil, Janet, Brian, Tony and David; also to the team at Laurel Bank with whom we worked closely. Everyone was impressed by the excellent organizational arrangements.

The minibus has also been used on a very limited basis by OPAL to make a few deliveries. OPAL was set to return to more regular use, sadly after the fi rst successful trip out, the rules changes and lockdown returned.

Membership of our committee remained much the same, with Carol Swaffi eld now sharing the role of Hon Secretary with Ilene Hoyle. Phil Griffi ths, supported by Tony Day, continues to have oversight of all things technical and mechanical. Christine Whitehurst keeps our fi nances on track, Brian Mackie again undertook the external audit. A big thank you to them for all their work over this diffi cult period.

As last year, despite limited use, the minibus demands signifi cant resources with its regular 10 weekly tests, annual MOT, six monthly lift checks and servicing requirements. As part of COVID safety measures we had a protective screen fi tted around the driver’s seat.

As the minibus ages and parts need replacing, maintenance costs have and will continue to increase. However, it remains in full roadworthy condition and will be fully serviced shortly. When last on duty ‘Rosie’, as she is aff ectionately known, was looking sparkling following a full valet expertly carried out by Ryan at AUTOSHINE.

Continued

It is hoped that we can shortly return to something like normality, though in the short term COVID safety precautions will require us to operate with signifi cantly fewer passengers; 5 or 6 rather than the full capacity of 12 passengers plus driver.

The committee would welcome new members to join it, indeed as existing members step down this is essential to ensure the ongoing viability of the organization. We would also welcome more volunteer drivers and of course hope to see more community or voluntary organisations using the minibus.
