Ffarm Moelyci, Lȏn Felin Hen, Tregarth, Bangor LL574BB

## **Trustees**

Pam Mounemnie Chair Dave Bennett Trustee Pam Taylor Trustee Helen Jarram Trustee

## **Governance and Management**

Snowdonia Donkeys is a Charity Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with a constitution. New trustees are appointed to the board by the Trustees. Snowdonia Donkeys is governed by 5 trustees and supported by a growing team of volunteers. There is currently 1 trustee vacancy.

## **Objectives**

1. To relieve the suffering of donkeys in need of care and attention in North Wales and to provide and maintain rescue homes or other such facilities for the reception, care, treatment and security of such animals.

2. To promote humane behaviour towards donkeys by providing them with appropriate care, treatment and security and to educate the public in the welfare of and the prevention of cruelty and suffering amongst donkeys.

3. For the benefit of the public to relieve sickness and distress and promote good mental health by the provision of donkey assisted therapies.

## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit during the period**

Delivered donkey assisted therapy sessions to individuals and groups. Continued to care for rehomed donkeys and working donkeys. Rehomed 4 donkeys. Secured a new guardianship home for 2 donkeys. Provided opportunities for donkey owners to access information and support. Supported donkey owners with donkey welfare issues and future planning for donkey care.

## **Achievements and performance**

- We were awarded an 18 month grant from BBC Children in Need to deliver sessions to young people affected by COVID 19.

DocuSign Envelope ID: D21B1B75-F7BF-4FA2-9319-AA506F60AB76

- Received a grant from Mantell Gwynedd to provide opportunities for families to socialise in the outdoors.

- Worked with Snowdonia Active to deliver outdoor sessions for parents with children under 2 years.

- Delivered a grant awarded by Comic Relief to support and develop our volunteer network.

- Secured a grant from the Bailey Thomas Foundation to support our activities with young people interested in growing herbs and vegetables.

- Provided a range of virtual and in person donkey contact sessions in response to COVID restrictions.

- Worked with the Abbey Road Centre in Bangor to provide outdoor sessions with donkeys for adults who are referred to them.

- Worked with volunteers to build a new field shelter in Cae Bach.

- When Government restrictions allowed, we provided Holiday Clubs during school holiday periods.

- Delivered regular Saturday Clwb Sadwrn sessions for local young people.

- Recruited new volunteers and provided training for existing ones.

- Continued to develop and promote the ‘Sponsor a Donkey’ scheme.

- Developed new funding streams and opportunities for people to support our work.

## **Financial Review**

The Charity Trustees have agreed a Reserves Policy that allows £12000 to be held in reserve. This decision was made to reflect the growing commitments of the charity to both staff and donkeys. The reserve of £12000 will support the charity for 6 months in the event of a major downturn in fundraising.

## **Looking forward**

Through the support of the local community and hard work of staff and volunteers, Snowdonia Donkeys continues to grow and be a resource utilised by the local community and visitors from further afield.

Over the next year we hope to:

- Expand our networks and contacts that will enable us to develop and deliver more donkey assisted interventions.

- Secure continued funding to continue to develop our volunteer programme and resources.

- Identify appropriate grant support the help us fund a space where we can work during wet weather.

- Continue to develop our partnership with Bangor University to support active research in the work that we do.

- Improve the facilities that we have for visitors and staff.

- Develop the range of activities that we can offer people when they visit our site.

- Deliver animal management courses accredited by AGORED Cymru
