The Trustees present their report and accounts for the perlod 01 August 2024 to
31 July 2025.
Strurturei governance and management
Upton United Juniors Community Sports Club C.l.O. Is a Charitable Incorporated
Organlsation (CIO), registered with the Charity Commission and governed by Its
constitution, dated 08 January 2018.
The members of the CIO are the charity tnjstees. Membership of the CIO cannot be
transferred to anyone else. The liability of each member In the event of windlng-up is
Ilmlted to a sum not exceeding £1.
The affairs of the charlty are managed by the trustees, who may exerclse all the powers of
the charlty.
Appolntment of Trustees
In accordance with the terms of the constitution, there must be at least three charlty
trustees. If the number falls below this minimum, the remaining trustees may act only to
call a meeting of the trustees or appoint a new trustee. There is no maximum number of
charity trustees that may be appointed to the CIO.
Trustees are appointed by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity
trustees. One third of the Trustees will retire at a properly convened meeting of the charity
trustees each year but may be reappointed.
Each new trustee is given a copy of the constitution and the latest trustees, Annual Report
and statement of accounts, on or before appointment.
The trustees who served during the year are shown on page 3 of thls report.
Rlsk Management
The trustees have ultlmate responsibillty for identifying and managing rlsk. A major risk 15
fa15ure to brlng in sufficient income to cover the outgoing costs of running the Sports Club.
This is managed by close financial scrutlny throughout the year and event planning to raise
sufficient income. For other areas the charity has policies and procedures in place to
manage or lessen the effects of potentlal risks.
Charltable alms and objertlves
The objects of the charity are:
To advance healthy recreation and physical education of children and young people up to
the age of 18 in Upton, Pontefract and the surrounding area through the playing of and
coachlng In association football.
To further or beneflt the inhabitants of Upton and the surroundlng area by the provision of
facilities for playing amateur sports, particularly but not exclusively amateur football.
Actlvltles undertaken for the publlc benefft
In shaplng the objectives for the year, the trustees have pald due regard to the public
benefit guidance published by the Charity Commisslon.

Health and lifestyle choices still remain a primary objective and are promoted and delivered
from the Pavilion social room. The club's three designated trustees and committee members
assist and contribute volunteers to hold such events.
Year on year the club continues to be progressive and plays a lead role not only In sporting
football activities but also more widespread community activities, wlth our large 8-acre field
hosting a large number of events. This is followlng on from our new clubhouse bulld which
was undertaken 8 years ago.
Such actlvlties include both formal and informal education includlng courses on safeguarding
children, emergency aid and sporting coaching qualifications. Our facllities, clubhouse and
8-acre field can be hired at low cost and are popular for celebration parties for all age. The
football pitches and changing rooms are avallable to hire ad-hoc by external sporting clubs.
Achlevements durlng the perlod
The club has now been a fully registered charity for just over eight years after prevlously
being a long established constituted group.
The club has grown Its members considerably to around 190 reglstered Junlor players and
now over 60 adult reglstered players playlng in a number of league competitions in nearby
Townslcitles of Barnsleyi Wakefield, Leeds, Selbyi Garforth & Doncaster regions.
It is antlcipated next year the club wlll see a further growth due to the continued
commltment to its soccer stars programme (4-6 year olds) and girls only football.
The club have Home & Away kit and tearn wear sponsors, both local & natlonal, for each of
the individual age groups and are gratefully supported by local buslnesses throughout the
community.
The pavillon building contlnues to be a vltal part of
the club and will be vitally important in moving the
club forward next year to cater for further expansion.
The increase In players and additional revenue it has
brought, has allowed for Investment into the pavilion
where the social room has been updated providing
more comfortable environment for its parents and the
wider community to enjoy.
The additional revenue has been invested in more
efficient roll on nets Increasing the enjoyment for Its
players and greater in ease In settlng up and puttlng
away.

The club have reintroduced and organised the "Upton Fun
Run" which until covid had been an integral piece of the
community Jigsaw year on year. The event was held in
August 2023 and a huge success with over 200 entrants
and was massively received by the community with plans
for this to return as an annual event held by the club.
The club organised a club event to watch the ice hockey at
Sheffield Steelers. The club secured tickets and transport was
subsidised for its players and parents, with over 100 players and
parents attendlng for an enjoyable evenlng.
The club have secured fundlng from the Football Foundation to improve its playing surfaces
over a 6 year period in the sum of £90k, with a contribution from the club from year 3 of
£30K over 4 years. The additional revenue going forward has allowed the club to commlt to
the programme.
This year has seen the club h05t a weekly over 35s football session which is continually
growing in numbers from around the local community.
Female Football
The club continue to promote glrls football wlthln the community and plan to develop thi5
further in the coming 12 months with introduction of further age groups pending player /
coaches availability. This year has seen an increase in girl players and dedicated girls
teams Wlth the aim to provide a pathway to adult football.
Flnance
The budget was set on a breakeven basss on 1st August 2023.
The club were able to malntain a players subs at £200 per season whilst maintaining a
breakeven budget. The increase in revenue allowed the club to progress a number of
projects to improve and enhance the facilitles.
The club have accepted an Insurance payout of £17,500 in relatlon to a theft of pltch
machlnery which will be replaced In the next 12 months With part funding from the Football
Foundation.
The budget is drawn up wlth fundraising a major aspect to allow the club to breakeven.
Fundraislng from wlthin the club has gone a long way to malntain the budget this year and
the trustees are very grateful for the parents, support in thls field.
The bar and café have provided substantial revenue to the clLFb In maintalning budget
flgures overall. These functlons are volunteered led so It is difflcult to present a figure withln
the budget but this year have exceeded expectstion5 due to the hard work of volunteers
and parents.
In summary this year has seen a big increase in revenue malnly due to the increase In
player numbers. This has allowed the pavilion to be part refurblshed and the purchase of
roll on nets which have improved the facllltles on offer to the communlty. whi15t maintainlng
a planned budget.

Alms - Asplratlons - Future Development Vl$lon
To continue to grow our present number of teams by contlnulng our Soccer Star
programme, providing a fijn introdurtion to football and healthy Ilfestyle choices for kids 4-6
year-old. Thls Is under a fully Inclusive open policy of accepting all abilities, and to recruit
more teams by underpinning the growth of the club. from the youngest age groups in all
formats of the game, from the youngest ages right through to open age and beyond to
eventually encompass walklng and veteran'5 football.
We will remaln active in providing events for the wlder communlty to promote community
Integration.
The clubs alms and vlsion for the next 5110 years Include developlng the facllitles further in
both building and pitch maintenance to provide the community with the use of excellent
facilitie5, glvlng the opportunlty for Indlvlduals to maintain a healthy lifestyle and soclal
activltles.

The Charlty's pollcy on reserves
The trustees recognise the need to keep reserves at a level whlch will give the organisation
stability to enable it to continue to operate In the future and meet all statutory obligations In
the event of winding up. The tru5tee5 aim to maintsin a general reserve in the region of at
least 3 month5, running costs in reserve at any one time. Based on current year
expenditure this equates to £21,000. The actual level of unrestrlcted reserves held by the
charity at the year end was £35,084. (2024.. £20,326).

Trustees responslbllltles for the flnanclal statements
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records whlch dlsclose wlth
reasonable accuracy the financial posltlon of the charity at any time and enable the trustees
to prepare financial statements for each flnancial year. The trustees are also responsible for
safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the
prevention and detectlon of fraud or other Irregularities.
Flnanclal Posltlon
The financial statements are set out in pages 9 to 12. The Statement of Financial Activities
shows a su rplus for the period of £31,200. (2024: deficit of £589). Total funds at the period
end stand at £51,852. (2024: £20,652).

I report on the accounts of the charity, which are set out on pages 9 to 12.
Respectlve responslbllltles of trustees and examlner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparatlon of the accounts. The charlty's
trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 (2} of the
Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination Is needed.
It is my responsibillty to,.
examlne the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
follow the procedures laid down in the general directions glven by the Charity
Commissioners, under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Art; and
state whether particular matters have come to my attentlon.
Ba$ls of Independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out Sn accordance with the general directions glven by the
Charlty Commission. An examination Includes a review of the accounting records kept by
the charity and a comparlson of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes
consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations
from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not
provide all the evldence that would be requlred In an audlt, and consequently no oplnion Is
given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and falr vlew. and the report Is limited to
those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examlner's statement
In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which
gives me cause to believe that In, any material respect:
the accounting records were not kept in accordance with sectlon 130 of the Charltles
Act; or
the accounts dld not accord wlth the accounting records. or
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and
content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008
other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and falr. view which is not a
matter considered as part of an Independent examlnatlon.
I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to whlch attention
should be drawn in thls report In order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to
be reached.

l. Accountlng pollcles
The financial slatements have been prepared on a Receipts & Payments basls which
summarlses the movement of cash in and out of the organlsation. En this context'cash,
includes cash equivaSents, such as bank accounts where cash can be readlly available to pay
debts as they fall due. This format of accounts is available to non-company charities with gr055
annual income of £250,000 or less.
Income and expenditure has been analysed in the accounts using natural classlficatlon.
After reviewing the charity's forecasts and projections and Its reserves, the trustees have
reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resources to continue in operation for
the foreseeable future.
Upton United Junlors Community Sports Club CIO is a registered charity and is exempt from
UK corporation tax on income from Its charltable artivities.
The charity maintalns an unrestricted fund which represents funds which are expendable at the
discretion of the trustees In furtherance of the objects of the charity. Unrestricted funds may
arlse from grants and donations of a general nature, member subscriptions & fees and charges
for goods and servlces provlded.
Restricted funds may be provided to the charity for particular purposes and may only be spent
for the purposes for which they were glven. Any balance remaining outstanding on a restricted
fund at the end of the year is carried forward as a balance on the fund, unless permission has
been given by the funder to remove the restrlctlon on the balance outstanding. Restricted
funds wlll arise from grants and donations given to the charity for specific purposes.

payments, remuneration or benefits made to trustees In this or the prevlous accounting perlod.

There were related party payments of £540 to a relative of Trustee L Plckln for Coaching, and
payments of £4,614 to PM Prints, a buslness owned by Tnjstee P Land.

5. Independent Examlnatlon of accounts
The cost of the independent examination for the year was £725. {2024'. £675)
6. Land & Bulldlng*
A 30 year lease exists between the charity and Wakefield Councll, relating to the sports fleld
land at Waggon Lane, Upton.
7. Cafe Income
Café, bar and vending income arises from the sale of food and drink to club players and
5UPPOrters. The cafe and bar is not open for business at any other tlme, or to members of the
general public, the trading is therefore ancillary to primary charitable purposes and is exempt
from tax.
8. Funds held In translt
The Trustees have received funds at the end of the financial year that are player
subscriptions {£2,505) and sponsorship income (£1,200) that relate to the following
flnancial year. These funds have been held back from being dep051ted into the Charity
account until the start of the following flnancial year for budgeting reasons. The funds
are not included in the Receipts and Payment statement.
