Annual Report
Swanley and District Foodbank (under the Trussell Trust umbrella) has had a presence in the Swanley area for over 11 years and was founded by the local churches and community groups working together towards stopping food hunger in the district. Over this period, we have seen an increased need to feed those in who need it, we supply a nutritionally balanced food as well as support and advice whenever possible. We work in close liaison with West Kent Housing and other partners and especially the Citizens Advise who we now have a partnership with on our premises, so we can sign post clients to them for immediate assistance.
Our income for the period 2025 to 2026 has increased mainly due to the generosity of donations from the public, churches, Christmas fund raising activities, local businesses and other organisations, plus the gift aid scheme. We also received Winter Support grants from the Government funded Household Support Grant scheme on at least two occasions from Sevenoaks District Council. The grant money was used wisely to replenish our food storeroom and buy-in urgently needed food stock items during the ongoing cost of living crisis. Our regular client base has risen due to the cost of living, and we have seen an increase in our footfall after moving to our new premise nearer the centre of the town. To maximise the use of the premises and demand we decided to open three days a week.
The move to our new premises in August 2024 has worked well and as with any new accommodation we are constantly changing the layout of both the reception and storeroom areas, and this has improved the way we distribute the food to our clients. The use of a laptop in the reception area has allowed inward and outward stock to be handled and measured more efficiently.
As part of our signposting scheme, we are also involved in the CGL scheme (Change Grow Live) which helps people with addictions such alcohol, drugs etc., so far we have referred two people on the scheme in Tonbridge with some limited success.
Our food collection points at ASDA Swanley and Waitrose Sevenoaks have provided us with regular weekly top-ups of food supplies, and during the period we saw a further return in giving from the local churches and other organisations which took some time to recover after COVID. We thank Stanhill Farm for providing us with fresh vegetables twice a week.
The Trustees would like to thank our manager and all our volunteers and donors for their continued support, and hard work in helping those in need, and thank them for their time and loyalty.

Independent Examiner’s Report
This report on the financial statements of Swanley & District Foodbank for the year ended 31 March 2026, which are set out on page 5, is in respect of an examination carried out in accordance with section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
Respective responsibilities of the trustees and examiner
As trustees of the Charity you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements; you consider that the audit requirements of the Regulations and section 144 (2) of the Act does not apply and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to:

examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
-
follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiners report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under s.145 (5)(b) of the Act. That examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and
-
to prepare financial statements, which accord with the accounting records and comply with the requirements of the Act and the Regulations;
-
have not been met; or
-
to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
