Bengali Language Class
Due to unforeseen variable costs, we have had to relocate our Bengali School Classes to St. Peter’s Church - Parish Centre, with them returning to their usual 5PM to 7PM on Thursdays. For students unable to attend in person, we also have the capacity to provide remote teaching sessions via Zoom, arranged according to each attendee’s convenience.
Events
On occasion, SKC runs community events with invitations open to those with active memberships as well as those who are students of the Bengali Language Classes, who are also encouraged to present performances.. These can include…

Outings
Compared to the last few years, there have been significantly less outings due to train service strikes and last-minute bad weather. However, SKC still managed to arrange several enjoyable get-togethers and meetups at restaurants, parks etc.
-
Jackson’s Park Meetup (April 27): We hosted a casual outdoor get-together where members and families met for picnic snacks and food while socialising.
-
Folkestone Seaside Trip (July 7): We organised a major summer outing featuring a seaside picnic and food at Folkestone, organised in collaboration with Canterbury Street Mosque, with coach travel provided.
-
Dover Castle Trip (July 27): Our members explored Dover Castle on a sunny summer day, enjoying historical tours and scenic views.
-
Caravan Trip: Between July 28th and August 1st, a few members of SKC participated in a caravan trip, allowing them a chance to relax, bond, and enjoy the outdoors.
Ongoing Activities
-
Close Connections Programme: Starting on September 10, SKC launched “Close Connections” — a weekly Wednesday session at Rochester Library from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, aimed at reducing social isolation and supporting wellbeing. These sessions were smoothly coordinated alongside the monthly library meetings to maintain efficiency and engagement.
-
Monthly SKC Meetings: Regular monthly committee meetings continued, often held via phone to maintain consistency and communication across projects.
Sponsorship
From October 2024, Momotaz Ahmed has been appointed as the Director for the MDF Board of Directors, a role previously held by other members of our community, including Ms. Ruhena Ruji and Tahmina Rahman. SKC members have been engaging with various activities associated with MDF.
SKC has also become a proud member of the Medway Corporate Giving Fund, supported by the Kent Community Foundation, strengthening local partnerships and allowing for bigger and better projects in the coming year.

Shishu Kishor Club
We have continued to deliver swimming sessions weekly which allows for our women to exercise regularly without too much strain.
Additionally, SKC has begun to promote healthy living through regular Zumba and exercise classes in collaboration with MDF. These sessions provide a fun and welcoming environment for participants of all ages to stay active and connect socially.
Community Volunteering
A portion of our members commit to regular charity work to help the people who need it most. Shishu Kishor Club has been aiding such people with their work to further popularise the problems people are facing every day.
Many members of SKC are still collecting unused food items from commercial chains such as Tesco and Co-Op - which would normally go to waste and delivering them to the homeless and the needy.
On July 12th, SKC members volunteered and supported the Medway Park Ladies’ Group picnic, celebrating ethnic diversity and women’s wellbeing.
Memberships
Those who attend events run by SKC are encouraged to attain a membership that allows them to participate in future events and trips. This year, SKC proudly welcomed over 50 new members into the community.-
