Statement of trustee's responsibilities
I,aw apphcable to charities in r.ngland and Wales requires the trustees to prepare
receipts 2nd payments accounts and statement of assets and liabilities for each
f￿ancIal year, which properly present the ch2rity's receipts 2nd payments for the year
together with its assets and liabjlities at the end of the year.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which (hsclose
with reasonable accuracy at any time, the fin2nci21 position of the charity and which
enable them to ensure that the fmancial statements comply with applicable
Accounting Standards and Statements of Recommended Practice and the regulauons
madc undcr Section 154 of thc Charitics Act 2011. Thcy are also rcsponsiblc for
safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the
prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
Report of the ttustees
The trustees present thei£ report and the fmancial statements of the charity for the
year ended 31 March 2024.
These financial statements are prepared in accordance with the charity's constitution
dated 22 December 2017 (as amended on 7 Sep 2022) 2nd the recommendations of
Accounting and Reporting by Lharities: Statement of Recommcndcd Pracucc and
comply with apph'cable law.

The charity is under the governance of its Trustees, as set out on p2ge 2 of the
Financial Statements. The day-to-day management of the Chariry is undertaken by
the Trustees.
The object of the CIO is to promote for the benefit of the public the conservation
protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of Darlands
Nature Reserve.
When planntng the activities for the year, the trustees have consideted the

Duting 2023/24, the Trust organised 51 volunteering workdays, creating
opportunities for 49 individu21 voluntccts who contributed a total of 1,214 hours.
These sessions provided the local community with indusive opportunities to work
as a team in nature, regar(lless of thc weather.
Key achievements included..
Improving access to the nature teserve: construction of a footbridge over a
ditch, widening of paths, clearing logs and debris from thc lake, fencing and
post repairs, grass cutting/mowing, coppicing along the d2m, cleating and
repairing culverts, and extensive bramble clearance.
Preparations for meadow restoration: installation of new stock fencing.
The Trnstec5 extend their heartfdt thanks to all the volunreers who genetously gave
their time and energy throughout the year.
We continued our programme to control Giant Hogweed, a hazardous invasive plant
that C2n cause serious burns upon contact with its sap. Despite its estab]ishment in
parts of the reserve, progress has been made through atknual treatments by licensed
contractors. This work is only possible due to the generous donations from the local
cornmunity, businesses, and charitable Trusts 2nd Foundauons.
Our 'Help Save Datlands, appeal rem2ins active, inviting everyone who loves the
reserve to contribute toward its regeneration, lake restoration, and long-tenn
maintenance.
Significant preparations were undertaken for the lake desilting projecL scheduled to
commence in the firgt half of 2024/25. Fundrais￿ effotts ate focused on securing
the remaining funas requitcd foI this essential projecL
The Charity successfully achieved its objectives for the year, 2S Outlined above.
Financial review
The charity's activities resulted in nct incoming resources on the Untest£icted
Income Fund For the year of £8,784 (2022/23: £153,720). In the prior years, the
trnstees had designated the Millennium Fayre income, towatds the cost of desilting
the Darlands Lake and the wider Save Darlands appeal. These funds wcre originally
raised by the local community in 2000. In the cuttent year £4,521 (2022/23:
£153,014) of the 2023/24 Unrestticted Income Fund has been allocated to the
Designated 'Help Save Datlands, appeal funds.

The ttustees are confidcnt that through a combination of different incom¢ Streams,
they will receive sufficient income to enable the charity to meet its objectives.
Tl]e trustees have determined that there is no m2teri21 uncertainty that casts doubt
on its ability to continue as a going concern.

In 2024/25 the trustees will arrange for contractots to commence the desJting of
Darlands Lake and continue conducting ecological surveys. ptoduce a 10-year
management plan and to commence works to maintain and enhance safe pubhc
access to the natt￿e reserve. Our ecological group are developing a ten-ye2r
management plan, incorpotating the results and recommendation of these surveys.
Strategies for sustainable fundraising, communications and the recruitment of
volunteers will be developed to support the management plan.
Comtnunity engagement will be at the forefront of future activities.
