Our work includes research into neglected repertoire, including giving modern premieres of works which have remained unperformed for centuries.

We present music of the early 17th century to early 19th century on historically appropriate instruments, deliver education work and family concerts in schools and the community and publish recordings and editions of rarely performed repertoire.

## Section D Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

During the year Spiritato! undertook one of its biggest and most successful projects to date, the Inspiring Bach project exploring music that inspired JS Bach. This included music by Pachelbel, JC Bach, Knüpfer, and Buxtehude. This was also the group’s first joint collaboration with the Marian Consort.

The project consisted of one heavily promoted performance of the programme at St Giles Cripplegate in London followed by a UK tour. One of the principal aims of the project was to build on the success of the ‘Guts and Glory’ project in using natural ventless trumpets to explore the different colours and timbres that would have been more likely to have been heard at the time.

The project was financially well managed and Spiritato raised a vast majority of the funds required. The remaining funds for the project were contributed by the Marian Consort

## Financial summary

The 2022/2023 financial year started off at the height of the Inspiring Bach project performing at the Lammermuir and Brighton Festivals as well as in Wiltshire all in close succession. The project drew to a successful close in the York Christmas Early Music Festival.

In to the new year the group’s new programme of Northern Lights was booked for a tour in the West of England, mainly in the Dorset area. Originally titled Northern Light, Sonatas from the Düben Collection is our exciting second recording for Delphian Records, exploring instrumental music uncovered in the rare manuscripts of the Düben Collection. This incredible resource at Sweden’s Uppsala University has yielded works of amazing virtuosity, representing a cross-section of some of the finest music from the mid-17th Century. In addition to these focussed projects the group performed at the Forest School and the Barnet Choral Society.

The group generated cash surpluses of £14,208 ready to fund its English Restoration project in the following year.
